- Adhemar Ferreira da Silva was born on September 29, 1927 in São Paulo, Brazil. He was an actor, known for Black Orpheus (1959), Olympic Games: 1956 (1956) and XIVth Olympiad: The Glory of Sport (1948). He died on January 12, 2001 in São Paulo, Brazil.
- Won gold medals at the Olympic Games of 1952 and 1956 in triple jump. Seven world records (1951-1956).
- Da Silva, who was well-known for his role as the "angel of death" who follows the main character in the Brazilian film Black Orpheus (1959) ("Black Orpheus") died on the same day, in the same year as composer Luiz Bonfá, who composed and performed the music to that film.
