The Idea of You has broken streaming records for Prime Video, launched the fictional boy band August Moon onto the Billboard charts and cemented star Nicholas Galitzine as Hollywood’s Next Big Thing.
“That [movie] has done the most incredible numbers,” Galitzine tells TVLine, no doubt referring to the fact that the film garnered nearly 50 million worldwide viewers in the first two weeks after its May 2 premiere, making it Amazon MGM’s No. 1 romantic-comedy debut of all time, according to the streamer.

Ex-Ftii Chief Gajendra Chauhan Finally Spoke About The Case Against Cannes Winner Payal Kapadia( Photo Credit – Festival de Cannes / Instagram; IMDb )
Payal Kapadia’s history-making film All We Imagine As Light has become the town’s talk and is raising many questions. A past encounter when she was a student at Ftii is piquing people’s interest. For the uninitiated, a case was filed against Kapadia and many students for protesting the appointment. Now, after her global win, Gajendra Chauhan is finally breaking his silence about Payal Kapadia’s case and has this to say about her win.
Film director Payal Kapadia received congratulations from actor-politician Gajendra Chauhan, who briefly held the position of chairman of the Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India, on her win of the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for her film “All We Imagine as Light.” She was disciplined when...

In our critics survey of the best movies at the Cannes Film Festival each year, it’s common to have the critics IndieWire’s polled disagree with the awards given by the festival jury itself. That is not the case for Cannes 2024. The best movies of the festival, picked by 55 critics, representing five continents, were topped by Sean Baker’s “Anora” in our poll, which, of course also won the Palme d’Or.
Last year, Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” topped our poll, differing from the Palme d’Or result, which went to Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall.” It must be said that voter enthusiasm in our poll for “The Zone of Interest” was even that much stronger: It received nearly half of all votes for best film. “Anora,” which stars Mikey Madison, received about a quarter of the overall votes for best film this time...

Winners of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival awards, including the coveted Palme d'Or, were revealed at a glamorous ceremony in Cannes, France this weekend. The awards included many of my favorite films at the festival, and this year The Best film of actually won the top prize. Huzzah!! This doesn't always happen, but I loved Anora and had a feeling it would win ever since the screening on Tuesday earlier this week (read my full review). American filmmaker Sean Baker and his NYC film Anora won the Palme d'Or this year, following up Justine Triet's win for for Anatomy of a Fall last year. Congrats to Sean Baker and star Mikey Madison! I also would've been happy with Rasoulof's The Seed of the Sacred Fig winning, but it took home a special prize. Jacques Audiard's musical Emilia Perez also won two awards, and Jesse Plemons won the Best Actor...

Often, the juries at the Cannes Film Festival will try to make a political statement in their choices for the winners of the world’s most famous film festival. Not this year. At least, not in the way they might have.
I rather thought that director Mohammad Rasoulof would take the Palme d’Or for his stirring The Seed Of The Sacred Fig. It deals with the oppressive regime in Iran and the crisis in one family, where the daughters rise up to protest against the wishes of their father, a judge handing out death sentences for those who make their voices heard.
Plus, the back story of Rasoulof’s own daring escape from his home country after making this movie in secrecy and also being handed an eight-year prison sentence, is also a strong one.
He made his way to Cannes, where his film deservedly received a rapturous welcome...

From politics to buzz films, star appearances and deal making, there was – as always – plenty to talk about at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Screen gathers together the major discussion points of this year’s festival.
Muted politics
In the build-up to Cannes, there was much talk about how this year’s festival was set to be the most politically charged edition of recent years, amid Israel’s war on Gaza, festival workers threatening strike action and rumours of bombshell #MeToo accusations set to rock the French industry. The result was far more muted, with the #MeToo accusations quickly...

Even drawing fans to a relaxed campus located in the city of Brotherly Love: Philadelphia. How does a virtual singer bring waves of die-hard fans and the equally curious to a local cafe? That’s the magic of Miku. Richie’s Cafe in Philadelphia isn’t just a local student hub, it now proudly can say it was the first North American Hatsune Miku collab cafe. When Richie’s Cafe’s Operational Manager, Tarik Dzemaili, came up with the idea to create a collab with Crypton Future Media’s Hatsune Miku, he never expected them to respond to his request, “It was a shot in the dark. The Oscar- and Emmy-nominated Perez, whose credits include Do The Right Thing and 1992’s White Men Can’t Jump, recently appeared in the second season of Showtime’s Your Honor and HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Perez has been an activist for a number of causes, with President Obama appointing her in 2010 to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (Pacha).

There’s a lot to look forward to in what has been branded a Mexican comedy-thriller musical from the Palme d’Or winner that brought us Dheepan, A Prophet, Rust and Bone, and, more recently, the underseen Western delight that marked his move toward Hollywood, The Sisters Brothers. Or so it seemed.
Writer-director Jacques Audiard is one of the few filmmakers who has been able to, more than once, tell stories from outside their world and capture narrative, character, and culture with a unique foreign perspective that adds meaningful insight without bringing into question the filmmakers’ respect or depiction of the subjects.
Thus it appeared that this cartel-centric, Mexico-set, largely Latina film––about an unsuspecting lawyer being forced to help a violent cartel boss transition into a woman in order to leave her past behind and finally feel like herself––is actually right up the septuagenarian Frenchman’s alley. Unfortunately,...

As the 77th Cannes Film Festival (May 14-25) arrives at its halfway point, here is THR executive editor of awards Scott Feinberg’s assessment of the awards prospects — at the Cannes closing ceremony and later in the fall — of the films that have screened at the fest so far.
The Two That Popped
One cannot know what the specific preferences and priorities of the Greta Gerwig-led main competition jury are, but one can categorically state that two competition films — both of which are so original and out-there that they have to be seen to be believed — have been particularly well received. Both garnered nine-minute standing ovations and rave reviews, including particular praise for their leading lady.
The first is The Substance, a body-horror flick from French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat that might be described as Sunset Blvd. meets Freaks, and an instant classic. Demi Moore, in a gutsy career-best turn...

Going into this year’s Cannes Film Festival, expectations soared around a certain go-for-broke, no-guts-no-glory, swing from a Palme d’Or winning auteur, and on Saturday — two days after Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” fizzled — festivalgoers got all they wanted and more in Jacques Audiard’s gonzo telenovela musical “Emilia Perez.” Turns out we had been looking at the wrong Palme d’Or winner all along.
If for nothing else, the French director’s previous Grand Prize and Palme d’Or wins for tough-guy films “A Prophet” and “Dheepan” feel especially pertinent given the startling (and delightful) swerve he offers with “Emilia Perez,” an Almodóvar-aping melodrama about a cartel kingpin’s transition to the more benevolent woman she was always hiding from the world.
That the Spanish-language film is also a full-blown musical, chock-full of deliriously choreographed numbers and ear-catching ditties about vaginoplasties and tracheal shaves would also reflect Audiard’s high perch.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds Of Kindness has landed top of Screen International’s Cannes jury grid with an average score of 2.4.
The triptych drama is the first film so far to receive a four (excellent), both from Le Meduza’s Anton Dolin and Screen’s own critic. Others were less convinced with Mathieu Macharet (France’s Le Monde) and Stephanie Zacharek (US Time) both giving it just one (poor).

“She’s one of my fashion girls — she loves fashion and is very spirited when it comes down to it.” So says veteran stylist Petra Flannery about one of her A-list longtime clients, Zoe Saldaña. And it shows. The actress, who moves seamlessly from blockbuster franchises like Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy to indie fare like Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Perez, the film that leads her back to the Palais this year, catches eyes whenever she steps on a red carpet. On the eve of her return, Flannery looks back on their memorable Cannes collaborations and teases what to expect this year: “The beautiful premiere moments are a really magical stage for fashion. Saying goodbye to a beloved TV show is never easy. Even though The Good Doctor has already come under fire for some questionable choices in portraying an autistic doctor, it had a strong fan base that was forgiving enough to keep watching. However, all good things must come to an end, and The Good Doctor is no exception.
The show will end with the 10th episode of season 7, titled Goodbye. Although the title strongly hints at the goodbye the show will be waving to its audience, the promo suggests that it's not the only goodbye that will be said during the episode. And the fans are not very happy about it.

Following its huge success with Red, White & Royal Blue, the adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s bestseller, which last year came in as one of its top three most-watched romantic comedies of all time, Amazon MGM Studios has greenlighted development on a sequel, with stars Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez set to return.
After making his feature debut with the first film, Matthew López has returned to write the script for the sequel — this time, alongside McQuiston. Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will return to produce the film, joined by the banner’s Michael McGrath, as well as López. McQuiston will executive produce.
Released last August, Red, White & Royal Blue follows Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez), who upon his mother’s (Uma Thurman) election as President, is promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, brilliant — his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House.

The cast and producers of Red, White & Royal Blue — Prime Video’s breakout movie based on the bestselling novel by Casey McQuiston — acknowledge there is a fantastical element to their hit rom-com that stars Uma Thurman, Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez: A female U.S. president. A gay prince from across the pond who falls head over heals with her bisexual Mexican-American son. A delicious wrestling match between the two men in a mound of wedding cake.
But such a fantasy — besides charming the heck out of Gen Z viewers who love a good romance — could stand to make a difference in this otherwise contentious election year.

Briggs focused his attention on Lee’s back while Ivar made his way to commentary, but Lee dug deep and refused to give in. The former dominant North American Champion finally regained control before hitting a corkscrew moonsault and earning the win in his return.

As the second hurtles towards the finale, everything is up in the air about what will be left for a third season.
The previous episode delivered the bombshell that Three Rock is closing.
Fire Country Season 2 Episode 8 is the nuclear blast that changes everything for the Leone family -- in more ways than one.
From a fancy ball with everyone dressed to the nines to convince the governor to keep Three Rock open to a wildfire that's raging out of control.
Throw in Vince's health after the massive electrical shock on Fire Country Season 2 Episode 7 and an unannounced guest, and you have the makings for one hell of a show.
Vince: What?
Gabriela: I need more information than fine. Have you had any other symptoms besides tremors?

The 49th Chaplin Award Gala saw dozens of stars take to the red carpet to honor Jeff Bridges. The annual fundraiser benefits the Lincoln Center’s nonprofit sector, which supports student programs, film festivals, and movie series. Bridges received the iconic Chaplin Award as his former co-stars Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Sharon Stone, Chris Pine, and Rosie Perez applauded him. Many supporters couldn’t help but notice the latter actor. Perez turns 60 this year and still looks amazing.

Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Kieran Culkin, Sharon Stone and Rosie Perez celebrated Jeff Bridges’ seven-decade career at the 49th annual Chaplin Awards Gala in New York City on Monday night. But the Big Lebowski star almost chose a different career path.
During his acceptance speech for the Film at Lincoln Center‘s prestigious honor, the True Grit star shared that he originally “resisted” the idea of pursuing acting full-time for a few different reasons.
“It made me nervous, anxious, and I had other things I wanted to do,” he told the full auditorium at Alice Tully Hall. “I was very much into music. I loved ceramics, painting, and who wants to do what their parents do anyway?”
He recalled his father, actor Lloyd Bridges, explaining to him that he could do all of those things in this career path and use them all to some degree, which was one of the beauties of the job.

Rosie Perez is crediting former co-star Jeff Bridges for her casting in “Fearless” (1993). Perez says the studio “had a problem” with their on-screen “interracial relationship,” but that Bridges went “to bat” for her.
“Fearless” was distributed by Warner Bros. It centered on Bridges’ character Max Klein surviving a plane crash and connecting with his fellow survivor (Perez). Isabella Rossellini and John Turturro co-starred.
“Early in my career, I had auditioned for ‘Fearless,’ directed by Peter Weir. Although I knew I nailed it, they could see I was really, really, extremely nervous, so I wasn’t really sure,” Perez said during the 2024 Chaplin Award Tribute gala honoring Bridges. “I was extremely surprised to get a callback – surprised because I also knew the studio didn’t want me for the role. Then they said for round two that they wanted me to meet with Jeff Bridges. Holy shit! That’s Jeff Bridges!

Jeff Bridges isn’t like other leading men. So goes the tale for over 50 years and 70 films. Where other actors of his generation—Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson—brought volume and bravado, Bridges excelled in the shadows. A charming pretty boy turned weary and soulful iconoclast, his characters have never been showy. As The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” or Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart,” he’s moved into his roles and lived in them—“enough,” as one critic wrote as early as 1973, “to make a picture worth seeing.”
“I’m not sure what to make of all that,” Bridges told Variety at Film at Lincoln Center Monday evening, where the actor received the prestigious Chaplin Award. “It’s shocking for myself to think about how many films I’ve done,” he said. “Each film is like a little lifetime. I was a reluctant actor at first. It took many...

It’s nothing fresh, no mind boggler, but it purely works on the entertainment factor. The John Travolta starrer Cash Out is tropey in every way, and it still manages to not be boring at any point. Long past his prime, Travolta plays Mason Goddard, a swindler with a skilled crew carrying out heists. When a simple bank robbery goes haywire, Mason and his group must find their way out of it.

What happens in the movie?
Mason and his girlfriend Amelia visit a private jet exhibition, and they don’t seem interested in the aircraft. Mr. Perez, the man who invited them, takes them to show his collection of luxury sports cars. Out of all the Porsches and Lamborghinis, Mason’s eyes shine when Perez shows his most prized possession, a rare Pagani. Match #1: Nxt Women’s Champion Triple Threat Match – Roxanne Perez def. Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The Nxt Women’s Championship remains with “The Prodigy” Roxanne Perez as the champion retained her title in impressive fashion against both Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley in a Triple Threat Match. The bad blood between former friends Valkyria and Paxley sparked a major battle between the two to begin the match, all while the champion looked on and smiled. Once Perez entered the fray, the action became chaotic as all three Superstars threw caution to the wind, punctuated by the demented Paxley tossing both of her opponents hard to the ringside area.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer recently dropped and fans are over the moon. The trailer showed (and confirmed) some of the cameos and variants set to appear in the movie. It referenced some neat stuff from the comics, and at one point we even saw Deadpool & Wolverine using Strange’s Sling Ring to presumably escape.
A Sling Ring is a small mystical ring worn on two fingers that has the ability to create a dimensional gateway to another location or even a different dimension. It was created specifically for the MCU and it is used by Doctor Strange and other masters of mystical arts, so how did Deadpool come across it?
Well, Deadpool likely stole it from someone else, and if Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez is right, Cassandra Nova herself stole it from a variant of Doctor Strange who was Sorcerer Supreme of that reality.
Well, she isn’t a Sorceror Supreme.

The ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer just came out and fans are thrilled. It revealed some cameos and variants we can expect in the movie, including a neat reference to the comics (Giant-Man’s Head). There’s a scene where Deadpool & Wolverine seem to be using Strange’s Sling Ring, presumably to escape.
A Sling Ring is a small mystical ring worn on two fingers that can create a dimensional gateway to another location or dimension. It’s mainly used by Doctor Strange and other mystical masters in the MCU, so how did Deadpool get his hands on it?
Well, Deadpool probably swiped it from someone else. According to Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus, Cassandra Nova might have taken it from a version of Doctor Strange who was the Sorcerer Supreme in that reality.

The 2024 Cannes Film Festival lineup was finally revealed at the sliver of dawn on Thursday, April 11. Festival director Thierry Frémaux and president Iris Knobloch unveiled this year’s crop of films across the many sections, from the Competition to Un Certain Regard, during a press conference beginning at 5 a.m. Et. See the full lineup below.
The 77th edition of Cannes comes to the Côte d’Azur May 14 through 25, and a few titles were already confirmed to be in the mix. There’s Francis Ford Coppola’s self-funded epic “Megalopolis,” which has already screened for a rarified few in the United States to much awe and speculation over what distributor might take on Coppola’s experimental vision. For his first feature since 2011’s “Twixt,” Coppola gathered a cast including Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Shia Labeouf, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, and Jason Schwartzman for a sci-fi vision of a ruined NYC-like metropolis.

"You can't count it!" That's what producer Peter Safran said to Entertainment Weekly in 2023 about "The Curse of La Llorona" being part of The Conjuring Universe. Safran, who has helped to spearhead the very successful horror franchise alongside James Wan since 2013, did not leave any room for interpretation there. Yet, director Michael Chaves' successful 2019 feature directorial debut contains characters from "Conjuring" films, as well as overt references to events in those stories. Be that as it may, this movie now exists as both an unquestionable hit and a film that narratively exists in The Conjuring Universe but, for technical reasons, actually doesn't.

After getting bogged down by bureaucratic conspiracies, clichéd human dramas, and stretched-out subplots that serve no major purpose for the majority of the second season, Paramount+’s cosmic warfare saga Halo finally seems to be veering towards sci-fi intrigue, following the direction of its source material. Previously, a vicious attack by the Covenant fleet resulted in the fall of the planet Reach, and Oni’s betrayal led to the loss of numerous lives, including Spartan Vannak’s. Thanks to Kwan and Laera’s timely arrival, Soren, Riz, Master Chief, and Dr. Halsey managed to escape from the planet and arrive at the mining planet of Aleria. An injured Riz undergoes surgery, and after grinding through her fair share of physical and mental affliction for so long, she decides to quit the Spartan life. The directors of the new Mean Girls musical movie are using the powers of a bus for good.
Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne are launching the Yes Bus Acting Camp for underserved youth in Los Angeles, with the goal of equipping them with some training to strengthen their confidence to enter the entertainment industry.
“Like Janis says in the opening of our movie, ‘It’s not easy making a movie,’ but we also know that it’s not easy getting the confidence to just go for it as an actor, either,” Jayne said in a statement. Added Perez in a statement, “Not everyone in L.A. has the same opportunities, so we just want to help level the playing field a little bit.”
The free two-week program will take place on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this summer in downtown L.A. Acting and writing seminars will...

Joey Graziadei met 32 eligible bachelorettes on Jan 22. The latest season of The Bachelor has been much anticipated. From what we’ve seen so far, it should be a good one. While plenty of fans walked away thinking about which woman would best suit Joey, there were some other questions, too. Several The Bachelor fans couldn’t figure out why ABC blurred out a tiny Canadian flag that was used as a prop. The answer is pretty mundane.
ABC blurred out the Canadian flag on ‘The Bachelor’ because of government regulations
While The Bachelor left som fans scratching their heads over the pixelated Canadian flag on the show, it has no deep meaning. In fact, the explanation for blurring out the flag is rather mundane and comes down to red tape.
According to TV Line, who spoke with a source close to the dating competition, the flag was blurred because of...

It was 2015. Trump had recently announced his campaign for president with his “Mexico isn’t sending their best” speech, and Kelly Osbourne was a guest host on The View, discussing Trump’s stance on immigration alongside hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie Perez.
“If you kick every Latino out of this country,” Osbourne started, letting out a nervous giggle. “Then who is going to be cleaning your toilets, Donald Trump?”
The camera focused on Osbourne’s face as she quickly realized — thanks to her co-host’s immediate gasps and Perez...

Match #1: Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic – Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams def. Edris Enofé & Malik Blade The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Trick Melo Gang is on the same page as Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes took down Edris Enofé and Malik Blade in the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Trick and Melo came out hot, but the supreme athleticism of Blade and Enofé evened the playing field in a big way, highlighted by tandem splashes to the outside. Despite the incredible fight from Blade and Enofé, Trick Melo Gang took care of business and punched their ticket to the semifinals.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2: Lyra Valkyria & Tatum Paxley def. Lola Vice & Elektra Lopez The following is courtesy of wwe.
