Richard Linklater has been known as the filmmaker known for making chill, feel-good yet thought-provoking films over the years. While his Before trilogy might have gained more traction than others, he perfectly captured the wild, fun, and coming-of-age vibes of teenagers with Dazed and Confused and its spiritual sequel Everybody Wants Some!!.

Next week, on June 7, the entertaining and highly acclaimed geek-goes-undercover-as-contract-killer screwball romantic thriller “Hit Man,” starring It Dude of the moment Glen Powell, drops on Netflix. But this weekend, in case you hadn’t noticed, the movie opened “in theaters.” How many theaters? If you use your hands and feet to count, you’ll have most of them covered.
Netflix, the company that did for streaming what McDonald’s did for fast food (made it everyone’s new normal), always likes to make a big show of when it’s playing a movie “in theaters.” It has long amused me to see entertainment journalists get suckered into this public-relations gambit, for the simple reason that so many of them live in New York and L.A., where the tiny number of theaters occasionally playing a Netflix movie tend to be. A film opens five blocks from your house, and you think,...

Glen Powell is arguably the most in-demand actor in the industry right now. The actor has been working in the industry for many years but his career catapulted to new heights with his breakout role in Top Gun: Maverick. The actor further proved he could lead a successful rom-com with Anyone But You last year, reinvigorating the audience’s interest in seeing romances in theatres.

Powell has Hit Man and Twisters up for release this year along with many other promising films down the line. The actor has not yet starred in a big studio superhero project, revealing his disinterest in being in one. However, he has an affinity for Batman and would love to commit to a wild take on the character, in contrast to Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

When Glen Powell was initially offered the role of Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, the actor wasn’t initially keen on playing the character. Fortunately, the Anyone but You star was eventually onboard with the role, which led to the actor’s ascend in Hollywood, who is currently one of the biggest bankable young stars on the planet.
However, things might not have been the same if Powell hadn’t instilled some changes in his Top Gun 2 counterpart, which was initially written to be a flat character that served no purpose.

Glen Powell was probably one of the best parts of 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick. Sure, the story and the action sequences were pretty damn good too but Hangman was certainly a treat to the eyes. However, Glen Powell was not always this ripped, obviously. It took a lot of perseverance and “Endurance” to get where he is today, quite literally.

When Glen Powell was in his teenage years, he was offered a part in Endurance, a reality show that follows a similar script to that of CBS’ Survivor. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out for the actor on the show and he was eliminated much earlier than he expected. When he went back to school, he faced a lot of embarrassment thanks to his fellow students. That was when Glen Powell decided that he was going to turn his life around for good.

Sydney Sweeney didn't take long to garner compliments as a gallery of her bikini snaps gained traction on Instagram last Spring. In March 2023, a fan feed dedicated to the 26-year-old actress shared ocean-set swimwear shots of her, ones taken in Australia as she shot an unnamed project. Flaunting her phenomenal figure as she got soaking wet in her bikinis, Sydney highlighted her muscles and her curves, and for one fan, The White Lotus favorite is an absolute "snack." While Sydney shot multiple movies in Australia last year, it's possible that these photos came from the set of rom-com Anyone But You.

Navigating intimate scenes on-screen is no facile feat, especially when the chemistry between co-stars is one of the film’s biggest selling points. So, Adria Arjona concocted an unconventional yet perfectly workable idea to augment the intimacy between her and Glen Powell while filming s*x scenes in Hit Man.

Richard Linklater and Glen Powell love movies. Making them and talking about them. In a recent promotional video posted by Netflix on X, formerly known as Twitter, the “Hit Man” screenwriting duo went through some of their favorite films for any given situation. When asked of his favorite Scorsese film, Linklater said, “‘Raging Bull’ was in that top slot for a couple decades before ‘Goodfellas’ kind of knocked it off.”
Later, when asked of films he can quote every line of, the director again referenced “Goodfellas,” saying he could recite “some version of it” and “can act every role.”
When thinking of films they’re embarrassed they hadn’t seen, Powell referenced a recent screening of their film “Hit Man.” He said, “I feel like we discovered this the other night when people were asking inspirations for the movie and they say ‘This kind of feels like ‘Grosse Pointe Blank’ and I was like,...

Being an actor means losing out on many, many roles, especially when you are just starting out. Glen Powell knows this agonizing truth all too well. The actor was initially known for his role in Scream Queens (2015-2016), where he played Chad Radwell. Netflix’s list of new releases for June 2024 look suspiciously like last month’s.
That’s because the biggest item on the schedule is Bridgerton season 3 once again. The final four episodes of Bridgerton‘s third season will premiere on June 13. Polin fans everywhere, rejoice! Other TV items of note this month include the third and final season of Sweet Tooth (June 6), Worst Roommate Ever season 2 (June 26), and That ’90s Show Part 2 (June 28).
Bridgerton aside, Netflix’s original movie options this month might be even more impressive than the TV slate. Richard Linklater’s Hitman, which stars Glen Powell as the titular assassin, premieres on June 7. That will be followed by documentary Black Barbie on June 19, the Jessica Alba-starring Trigger Warning on June 21, and romcom A Family Affair on June 28
Here’s everything else coming to Netflix this month. Note that Netflix marks its international offerings with that respective country’s two-letter country code.

Top Gun fans waited over thirty years for Top Gun: Maverick, but the wait was well worth it. The film was an overwhelming success, earning rave reviews and grossing $1.4 billion worldwide. Considering those box-office bucks, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that Paramount is developing Top Gun 3 with Tom Cruise expected to reprise his role as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell alongside Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw (Miles Teller) and Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin (Glen Powell).
Although we likely won’t have to wait as long as we did for Maverick, those involved with the threequel aren’t about to rush the project. Out of all the DC characters, Batman is arguably the most popular of them all; the character has resonated immensely well with pop culture, leading to a hype that none of the other superheroes can match his popularity. Moreover, the numerous films and animated series with big names portraying the roles and interesting costume choices make him all the more renowned.

We’ve been waiting a few years to see if and when the Marvel Cinematic Universe Blade reboot that’s set to star Mahershala Ali of Green Book is going to go into production – and while we continue to wait, Ali is in talks to join former MCU star Scarlett Johansson in the new Jurassic World movie that’s in the works at Universal! As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Ali tends to be very selective and usually avoids Hollywood blockbuster-type projects (aside from Blade), so getting him to sign on for a role would be a big “get” for this project.
If Ali’s deal closes, he’ll be sharing the screen with Johansson (Black Widow), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Rupert Friend (Anatomy of a Scandal), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), and a bunch of hungry dinosaurs. This new Jurassic World movie will have Gareth Edwards directing the film from a...

The transition from good to evil has fascinated writers for centuries. Forcing characters to dance on the line of morality has always intrigued audiences more than two-dimensional characters with simple moral compasses. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is well-known for administering such dilemmas to their viewers through the characters they make.

Be it Kilmonger in Black Panther, Thanos’ noble motivations to wipe out half the universe, or the execution of the Punisher’s justice, it is difficult for fans to condemn some villains when their motivations are so complex. Despite this, there are a few characters that have stayed consistent over the years, even though the law would disagree.
Five of the main six Avengers have managed to always have a strong moral compass, ever since the 2011 film, and these traits have stayed consistent. However, it would seem that their actors have played parts that juxtapose their iconic roles.

Intro: At the time of writing this episode of Arnie Revisited, it’s just been confirmed that Hollywood is once again scouring popular IP with the upcoming reboot of The Running Man from Edgar Wright, with rising star Glen Powell attached to the project. The Top Gun: Maverick actor is certainly hot property right now, having just cosied up to Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You. However, it was another actor, whose star was crashing through the sky in the 80s, who first took on the adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, which was written under his Richard Bachman pen name.
Arnie had just battled camouflaged alien hunters in Predator, released in June 1987, and the same year saw him take on another action sci-fi project, albeit this time with less aliens but similarly memorable action and one-liners. It was quite a departure from the original short story, but the...

Did Furiosa’s Poor Box Office Performance Get Another Mad Mad Movie Shelved? (Photo Credit – IMDb)
After a surprisingly bad debut at the box office, George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga might have just ruined the chances of any other Mad Max sequels or prequels. As George Miller wrote Fury Road, he also worked on developing Furiosa and The Wastelands. But given the box office performance of Furiosa, it might have put a halt to the next Mad Max movie.
Forty-five years after George Miller introduced audiences to Mad Max, the auteur may have finally reached the end of the road through the postapocalyptic wasteland unless he can find redemption with his Mad Max films.

Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to Tom Cruise’s iconic 1986 film, was a massive success following its release in 2022. Capturing the high-flying action of the original film, while also introducing a bunch of new characters, director Joseph Kosinski filled big shoes by taking over the project from Tony Scott.

As per Kosinski, MCU star Josh Brolin was supposed to appear in the supporting role of Beau “Cyclone” Simpson, which later went to Jon Hamm. However, considering the filmmaker’s enthusiasm to work with Brolin, the actor seems to have a massive chance awaiting in Top Gun 3.

Top Gun: Maverick came more than three decades after the release of the first film starring Tom Cruise in the lead, and yet, it was as much of a resounding success as the original film from 1986. However, unlike a lot of stuff and people that were brought back from the first movie in this 2022 one, legendary filmmaker Tony Scott wasn’t one because of his devastating demise in 2012.

Since the younger Scott wasn’t there, Cruise reportedly decided to approach the older and equally legendary Scott brother, Ridley Scott, to helm the second movie in his Aviation film series. However, he was surprisingly not only met with a declined request by the iconic director, with the movie going to Joseph Kosinski instead, but was even met with his film being considered mediocre by Ridley!

Glen Powell almost said no to his career-changing role in Top Gun: Maverick. Why? Well, he initially auditioned for the role of Rooster which, as we all know, went to Miles Teller. Disheartened by the loss and unamused by Hangman’s character, Glen Powell contemplated walking out of the film. That is until Tom Cruise had a word with him. Clearly, the two actors bonded during their time in the film.

Glen Powell is an American actor, writer, and producer who is involved in almost every part of filmmaking. Recently, he’s been known for his roles in ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Anyone But You.’ One of his big breaks came in 2016 with the movie ‘Hidden Figures,’ where he played astronaut John Glenn. This film, which shows the contributions of African American women mathematicians at NASA during the Space Race, was a big hit.
