While filming the 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope, its leading stars Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford had a brief relationship. Despite keeping their relationship private at the time and in the subsequent years, Fisher revealed details about their affair in her memoir The Princess Diarist. The memoir discusses how they met, how their relationship started, and her enduring love for Ford over time.

One of the more underrated aspects of the "Star Wars" saga is the sheer number of major characters who don't talk. Well, they do talk, but the audience is never able to understand them. R2D2 speaks in beeps and whistles, and we can only infer what he's saying based on how C3PO responds. It's a delightful bit of worldbuilding, implying so much about the inter-species relationships in this universe while never alienating us to the point where we don't get at the gist of what's going on.
Chewbacca's another fun example of this: he speaks in growls, but his partner Han Solo always seems to have no trouble understanding him. It's mainly through body language and assumptions that we've come to the conclusion that Chewie's a loyal, kind-hearted character, someone we'd hate to see get blown up in a spaceship or put in chains. He's one of the...

Original Star Wars star Maria De Aragon, who shot her Greedo scenes behind the mask of the character, passed away. The actor was behind bringing the character to life in George Lucas’ original Star Wars movie, A New Hope. The character played a crucial role in the movie, which featured the iconic ‘Han Shoots Greedo’ scene alongside Harrison Ford.

Recently, the news of the death of the actor surfaced, and it was devastating for Star Wars fans. However, shockingly, many did not know that Greedo— a Rodian bounty hunter— was played by a woman. Certainly, the character was fascinating in the 1977 movie.

One of the most memorable traits of the roguish Han Solo is just how lucky he is. Depending on which version of "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" you watched, this guy somehow managed to avoid getting shot by a bounty hunter despite being mere feet away from the guy either before or after they yelled "Maclunkey!" at him. He also spent years fleeing from the evil space gangster Jabba the Hutt -- and when Jabba did finally catch him, Han had already made friends with a powerful young Jedi who could rescue him not long after.
Even on a meta level, Han's a lucky guy. Harrison Ford thought Han should've died in "Return of the Jedi" to lend some "gravitas and emotional weight" to the third film, and I don't think he was wrong: "Return of the Jedi" was a little too cutesy of a follow-up to...

Star Wars: A New Hope opened with Darth Vader confronting the ever-crafty Leia Organa about Death Star plans that were smuggled to the rebellion. Not knowing how the rebel spies found the data at the time, the scene was genuinely terrifying, given the context. Who could have imagined that the fiery on-screen chemistry between Princess Leia and Han Solo, portrayed by the legendary Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, would leap off the silver screen and blossom into a real-life romance? Indeed, the revelation of their affair was a breathtaking twist worthy of a Hollywood epic, capturing the imaginations of both Star Wars fans and cinephiles.
Alas, their brief affair was marred by more sadness than romance. Despite its complexity, this slice of trivia never fails to stir the pot of fan discussions, especially considering their shared time on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, instead of chatting about themselves & their own story, they talked about another romantic couple on the set.

Kathleen Kennedy Says Women Who Make ‘Star Wars’ Franchise Installments ‘Struggle’ with Male Fanbase
Even Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy is aware of the gendered bias surrounding “Star Wars” fans.
During an interview with the New York Times for upcoming Disney+ series “The Acolyte,” Kennedy admitted that female filmmakers “struggle” with fan backlash to their respective film and TV franchise installments. Leslye Headland is the showrunner for “The Acolyte.”
“Operating within these giant franchises now, with social media and the level of expectation — it’s terrifying,” Kennedy said. “I think Leslye has struggled a little bit with it. I think a lot of the women who step into ‘Star Wars’ struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male-dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal.”

As George Miller’s oil and blood-fuelled Furiosa hits the screens, we ponder what makes a great prequel.
Mild spoilers for The First Omen.
There are a lot of bad prequels. There are some good prequels, but a great prequel is a rare thing to come across. They’re like a rare animal, the unicorns of cinema. Some wonder if such a thing even exists, but when you do watch one, it’s really rather something.
George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga might just be one, a prequel which somehow manages to justify its existence and repeat the exhilarating sense of time and place as Mad Max: Fury Road. I’d be surprised if we saw another action film as handsomely made as Furiosa in 2024. Or 2025. Or 2026.
Prequels are an easy sell for studios, but a hard sell for audiences. For studios, they’re an easy way...

Carrie Fisher’s Star Wars movies made her a global star. The actor joined the franchise when she was just 19. Starring alongside Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, Fisher’s Princess Leia has been one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe. He may have created Star Wars, one of the most beloved sci-fi properties in history, but filmmaker George Lucas has a complicated relationship with the franchise's fans.
Whether it's the prequels which were deemed a let-down by original trilogy devotees or the fact he made sweeping changes to those classic movies with various re-releases, Lucas has long clashed with admirers of his work.
New technology saw him frequently make sweeping changes to A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Those ranged from blinking Ewoks to a massively overhauled Death Star battle, and even Darth Vader screaming "Noooo!" as he threw Emperor Palpatine to his temporary death (Hayden Christensen was even inserted into Episode VI's final scene).
Perhaps the biggest issue, though, was the fact the original versions of Star Wars are now near-impossible to find.

Anakin Skywalker’s descent into the dark side is the most tragic aspect of the original and prequel trilogy, as George Lucas deemed the first six movies as the Tragedy of Darth Vader. While the prequel trilogy was seen as a letdown compared to its predecessors, the time has been kind to these features, especially for its exploration of the complexity of Vader as a character.
Although several aspects contributed to Anakin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader in the original trilogy, this could’ve been avoided had Mace Windu trained him instead of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

However, many don’t know that this absolutely breathtaking universe from a figment of George Lucas’ imagination actually would have never made its way to the public had one other project of the mastermind gotten the greenlight: A movie adaptation of the comic strip Flash Gordon. Thankfully, Lucas faced rejection from that and ended up giving birth to a saga that created history.

Helldivers 2 players have been annihilating bugs and bots all this time thinking that they are the good guys but it turns out, Super Earth has been the evil side since the beginning. Super Earth seems to be brainwashing the citizens and Helldivers into thinking that the bugs and bots are the bad guys, but there is speculation that Super Earth only uses them to get resources.

In today’s day and age, there are multiple franchises that have won the hearts of many to create fandoms of their own. While some of the positions in this respective list have been retained by superhero sagas like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe, perhaps none comes as close to celebrating almost a half-century of its existence as the Star Wars lore.

Fisher debuted as Leia in the original trilogy of films, which catapulted her to superstardom. She later reprised her role in the sequels produced by Disney, until her untimely passing.

If the Star Wars franchise is considered one of the greatest film series of all time in Hollywood, the credit goes to its creative mastermind, George Lucas. The visionary director pioneered a sci-fi revolution with the epic space saga that spanned multiple decades to become a cult classic that will continue to remain evergreen for years to come.

While Lucas enjoys an almost God-like status in the industry, the director has not escaped some serious criticisms against him, including being called racist for allegedly giving white people more importance in his casting choices for the Star Wars films. But hardcore fans have firmly stood by him by pointing out that this accusation has no basis at all.

Even though his character's backstory has been explored to death through a myriad of books, prequels, TV shows, animated series, and more, Darth Vader remains one of the best movie villains of all time, especially if you're only looking at the original "Star Wars" trilogy. Not only is he a scary, menacing, deadly presence in that original trilogy, but he also has a tragic arc, eventually redeeming himself despite a lifetime of terrible deeds.
The redemption would come later, though. For the first film, originally titled "Star Wars" but commonly thought of now as "A New Hope" (since there are so many other movies with "Star Wars" in the title), writer-director George Lucas had one main goal: make his big bad villain scary. Darth Vader had to be an ominous presence from the jump. The audience had to take one look at the guy and immediately know he was bad news.

Adria Arjona and Glen Powell may have some very steamy scenes in “Hit Man,” but filming them was anything but sexy.
It all went wrong when they were shooting in a bathtub and someone added Dawn dish washing soap to the water. “That strips you of all your oils of your skin,” Arjona says on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “That’s used for baby ducks when there’s an oil spill for God’s sake. We soaked in this bathtub for an hour and I get out of the tub and all of a sudden I dry myself and I can’t bend my knees because I have no oils.”

After the Hays Code was finally dropped in the late ’60s, it allowed filmmakers to make films without any restrictions, which led to the rise of some of the greatest names in filmmaking. This included acclaimed filmmaker George Lucas, who rose to prominence following the success of American Graffiti, starring Harrison Ford, which hit the shelves in ’73.
But it was his next collaboration with Ford that would go on to change Hollywood forever, kickstarting one of the most iconic movie franchises of all time. However, making Star Wars: A New Hope was pretty taxing for the filmmaker, as the sci-fi juggernaut almost fumbled after Lucas underwent some medical issues.

The Star Wars franchise has been around for over four decades and continues to enjoy an iconic status in pop culture. However, despite grossing over $10 billion, the franchise has recently experienced a slump, especially due to the mixed reception of its recent entries, both on the big screen and streaming.

Star Wars is now one of the biggest franchises of all time. Whether it is the movies, TV shows, toys, or comics, the franchise has now become a part of popular culture and will undeniably remain so, for decades to come. Yet, the first-ever Star Wars movie was plagued with development and production issues, so severe were these issues that George Lucas nearly had a heart attack.

In the middle of these issues, Lucas decided to screen the rough cut of the movie to some of his industry colleagues. While auteurs like Steven Spielberg struggled to understand it, even the movie’s editor, Paul Hirsch was unable to make heads or tails out of it.

The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont was once approached to write a Star Wars film for George Lucas. The Star Wars director was not the best at writing dialogue and tried seeking outside help for the same. However, Darabont couldn’t go through with the negotiations to write Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The Green Mile director explained that he couldn’t affiliate himself with the project since it was a non-guild job.

10. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1967)
With the backdrop of the Civil War, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is already pretty epic by default — but it only gets better. Three bounty hunters have to forge an uneasy alliance to find stolen gold before their competitor does, but they don’t trust each other and anyone else. High stakes, high tension, and pure adrenaline.
You can watch The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Apple TV and Prime Video.
9. The Godfather (1972)
The first movie in Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic trilogy, The Godfather is often dubbed the best gangster movie in history, and that might just be right. Post-wwii America is still largely ruled by the mafia, and the wise and cunning Godfather leads one of them through tumultuous times as he prepares a transfer of power in the family.

The Star Wars franchise is loved by generations of fans and they have witnessed its story all the way back from 1977’s Episode 4 – A New Hope up to the latest TV series streaming on Disney+. With all these storylines and characters, it’s inevitable to have some plot holes or inconsistencies in the narrative.

With many writers and directors involved, there’s no doubt that loopholes can be found in every nook and cranny of the franchise. In fact, fans have tons of questions as to why and how certain stories in the movies contradict one another.

One of the very few franchises that have been able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Star Wars since the dawn of the modern science fiction era in cinema is Star Trek and it has been a battle worthy of being dubbed as the Space Race of Hollywood. However, where Star Wars has remained at the top of its game since the advent of A New Hope, the same cannot be said for its contemporary show, The Next Generation.

Star Wars – one of the many phenomena that forever changed the landscape of pop culture in modern history – has brought us stories of unbridled joy, hope, love, friendship, camaraderie, candor, optimism in the face of utter loss, and resolution in the face of utter despair. The journeyman director, who’s most known for Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, is back on the big screen with The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first film in a trilogy that he’s already shot across 52 days in Slovakia.

That’s when the Strangers crawl out of the woodwork to play their patented cat-and-mouse game.
