In the scene in which Oscarito and Grande Otelo play a parody of "Romeo and Juliet", Otelo was living a personal tragedy: the day before, his wife had killed the couple's daughter and killed herself. According to the book "EstebMundo É um Pandeiro" ("This World is a Pandeiro"), by Sérgio Augusto, Otelo drank non-stop since he learned of the tragedy and appeared to film the next day in a bad state. Even so, he made the scene, which became a classic of Brazilian cinema. Otelo only saw the scene 25 years later, in the documentary Assim Era a Atlântida (1975).
