Our beloved orange tabby Persian cat Garfield is back on the big screen after a long while with Chris Pratt voicing the character in The Garfield Movie. However, things were far from good which eventually affected the project at the global box office as it garnered negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.

While there’s still time for the movie to head to its streaming debut, it was unable to bring the same success that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish gained after its release two years ago.
What Went Wrong With Chris Pratt’s The Garfield Movie?
Sony’s The Garfield Movie has met with an underwhelming response from audiences and critics alike, leading to it becoming a disappointing project from what it was initially intended. One of the reasons that led to that outcome is the lead voice actor himself.

If there is one fandom that is allowed to have the most trust issues, it is probably Marvel fans. The franchise is known for being especially untrustworthy with the information it gives out. The secrecy surrounding every single project in the MCU is ingrained in the very fabric of the franchise. The perfect example of how far they are willing to go to keep key details under wraps is what Andrew Garfield did in the days leading up to the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The actor has famously been condemned for how much he lied during the release of the film. Fans would constantly bombard him with questions about his appearance in the film, and he would deny it over and over. When the film was released and fans found out that he was, in fact, in the movie,...

Saturday Am Writethru: After a poor Memorial Day weekend, we have a poor post-holiday period, with all titles grossing an estimated $68.6M, -66% from a year ago, when Sony proved superhero movies weren’t dead with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse contributing to a marketplace that grossed $205.1M.
Alcon/Sony’s The Garfield Movie, as expected, is showing his teeth against Warner Bros’ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in a second-weekend faceoff between the two, $13M to $11.5M.
Garfield took in $3.7M at 4,018 theaters yesterday, while Furiosa made $3.05M at 3,864. Garfield‘s Weekend 2 hold is a great -45% off the 3-day, while Furiosa isn’t shabby at -56%. By Sunday, Garfield‘s running total will stand at $50.5M, while Furiosa will be at $50.4M.
Paramount’s If in Weekend 3 is hoping that matinees push Furiosa out of second, that movie having posted $2.86M yesterday at 3,783 theaters for a 3-day of $11M,...

As expected, The Garfield Movie seems to be squeezing out a victory opposite Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga at the weekend box office. Both films are in their second week of release, and Deadline has Garfield making about $13 million this weekend compared to $11.5 for Furiosa. To note, this margin is pretty slim, so the numbers could easily swing the other way by the time the final figures come in tomorrow afternoon. The Garfield Movie is looking at a roughly 45% week 2 drop, while Furiosa is in the 57% range.
To be sure, those are steeper drops than we anticipated in our box office predictions earlier this week. I expected Garfield to claw its way to the top spot, but I thought decent word-of-mouth would allow both films stronger holds. Alas, that doesn’t seem to be the case. While the makers of The Garfield Movie are probably thrilled with these numbers, as...

For, like, forever, Spider-Man has been one of the biggest fan-favorite characters introduced initially in Marvel Comics and then in the MCU.
However, while his initial live-action projects did justice to him through the ways the filmmakers helmed them under the production direction of Sony, the latest films in the franchise haven’t been all too favorable, all because of the excessive use of AI.

Yet, while that’s that, it seems like things are about to get worse instead of getting better. This comes after the CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment (Spe), Tony Vinciquerra, recently confirmed that the studio is eyeing to use more AI to reduce costs in the near future.
And, as expected, this news is anything but good for all those fans who were hoping to see more projects like the ones before.

Last weekend saw one of the closest box office battles of the summer, with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga only narrowly inching out a victory over The Garfield Movie (by less than a million bucks). With very little in the way of competition this weekend, the orange, animated feline is set to overtake Miller’s post-apocalyptic actioner, thanks mainly to weekend family matinees.
Given how mediocre Furiosa’s box office start was (with many predicting it killed the chance of us ever getting Mad Max: The Wasteland), all eyes will be on the film’s hold this weekend. Given the reviews and word of mouth, I predict a 40% decline, which would put it in the $16-17 million range. To note, during its run, Mad Max: Fury Road never posted a drop over 50% until late in its run. Hopefully, word of mouth means the film will have a decent enough finish at the box office,...

New Netflix Series by Game of Thrones Creators to Start Filming this Summer - Main Image
After dabbling in political and science fiction fantasy, Game of Thrones and 3 Body Problem creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are back with another drama, drawing from American history.
Death by Lightning will chronicle the brief presidency of James Garfield, to be played by Michael Shannon, cut short by his assassin Charles Guiteau, played by Matthew Macfadyen.
While the Netflix series has no release date yet, ProductionList.com marks the beginning of filming on July 1, 2024, in Budapest, Hungary. Betty Gilpin (Glow) will join Shannon and Macfadyen as First Lady Crete Garfield, Nick Offerman (The Last of Us) as Vice President Chester Arthur, and Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Secretary of State James Blaine.

Primarily known for their work on Game of Thrones before, the dynamic duo of producers Benioff and Weiss is now largely celebrated for their new Netflix series 3 Body Problem. However, D&d don’t intend to rest on their laurels: they’re already beginning work on a new project, tapping into an entirely different genre this time.
Forget low fantasy and sci-fi, Benioff and Weiss are heading for historical drama!
What Is Death by Lightning About?
3 Body Problem clearly endeared the Game of Thrones creators to the idea of working with Netflix as their next TV show Death by Lightning will also be made under the black-and-red banner. The upcoming series will take a step back from creative fiction like fantasy and sci-fi, focusing on historical drama, instead.
Spoiler alert: Death by Lightning is largely not about someone dying from lightning.

US box office revenue is down 36% on last year’s Memorial Day weekend, as the two leading films take only around $30m each
Neither a fat cat nor a ravening pack of post-apocalyptic Australian warlords could save US cinemas from their worst performance over the Memorial Day weekend in nearly three decades.
George Miller’s origins tale Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga just pipped pizza-loving feline Garfield to the top spot, taking $32m (£25m) over the four days, compared with Garfield’s $31.1m (£24m). Ghostly animation Casper took $22m (£17m) over the same period in 1995, but ever since then receipts have been up – excluding in 2020, when cinemas were entirely closed due to Covid.

It’s been only four days since a controversial animated film The Garfield Movie starring Chris Pratt (or rather his voice) got its theatrical release, and its opening weekend results are driving everyone insane, mostly due to a big misunderstanding.
The movie was indeed very lucky to be released ahead of the 4-day-long Memorial Day Weekend and according to the most recent data, has already grossed around $91 million worldwide, which is so far a much better result than any other big film of this year showed.
What Is The Garfield Movie About?
Based on Jim Davis’ comic book character, lazy and grumpy cat Garfield, The Garfield Movie follows the same feline who this time gets a chance to reunite with his long-lost father, Vic.

Henry Cavill’s Argylle suffered tremendously not only at the box office but also in the critic reviews. The spy thriller film helmed by Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn led a promising introduction with its star-studded cast, but even with the tandem of The Witcher star and John Cena, the movie still flopped.

Meanwhile, the animated adventure comedy film The Garfield Movie is making waves on its weekend premiere. The beloved cat is definitely attracting viewers out of pure nostalgia, and funnily enough, its box office debut earned higher than Argylle’s worldwide gross!
The Garfield Movie Director Reveals Why The Character Remains Timeless
Director Mark Dindal talked about the inspiration behind creating The Garfield Movie and why it remains a popular figure throughout the decades. He told Animation Scoop:
There’s a universal quality to him, which there has to be because he’s been around for 45+ years.

The legendary orange tabby gets a 2D-looking makeover for “The Garfield Movie,” the fully animated origin story (voiced by Chris Pratt). That’s in stark contrast to Garfield’s hyper-real look in the previous live-action/animated hybrid movies (voiced by Bill Murray).
In the reboot, the lasagna-loving Garfield is abandoned as a kitty by his scruffy street cat dad, Vic (Samuel L. Jackson). Then he forms a family with Jon Arbuckle (Nicholas Hoult) and pup Odie (Harvey Guillén) and is reunited with Vic for a dangerous adventure. This involves a revenge plot, a dairy heist, and a train chase finale featuring weaponized Italian food, as well as flat camera work evoking the comic strip format.
Director Mark Dindal (“The Emperor’s New Groove”) was game for an origin story with untapped vulnerability, and selected Pratt after watching the actor profess his love of snack food and laziness.

Update: Comscore has just released the official box office results for the 4-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, and despite some box office pundits predicting that The Garfield Movie would top Furiosa, in the end the George Miller epic was able to hold on to a narrow lead. Comscore has Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga earning $32 million compared to Garfield‘s $31.1 million. However, it should be noted that The Garfield Movie only cost about a third of what Furiosa did, so it’s unlikely distributor Sony Pictures will chalk up a loss on this one.
Furiosa will depend heavily on foreign receipts if it’s going to break even, with the movie grossing $33 million internationally. Mad Max: Fury Road made a total of $379 million worldwide, a number that the prequel will likely have a hard time equalling unless word of mouth and repeat business are strong. Like most, I was absolutely blown away by Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga this weekend. Chris Bumbray perfectly sums up why the film is a great entry into the Mad Max franchise Here. It may have been the trailer playing before the most number of movies in 2024. It was everywhere. Yet it’s hard to watch the film and come away feeling like I saw something completely brand new when the marketing already spoiled so much of it.
*spoilers for Furiosa going forward. Read at your own risk*
I need to get it out of the way right off the bat that I loved Furiosa. It’s a brilliant epic that features Chris Hemsworth’s best performance to date and proves why Anya Taylor Joy is believable in any role. The brilliance of Furiosa cannot be understated both in its technical achievements and in its narrative. And my criticisms...

The bad times at the summer box office just keep coming this weekend, as George Miller's post-apocalyptic road epic "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" lines up a historic low for the Memorial Day weekend. After grossing $10.2 million on its opening day (including previews), "Furiosa" is on track for a dismal $31 million four-day weekend (per The Wrap), significantly below the $45.4 million three-day debut of "Mad Max: Fury Road" in 2015. The good news is that "Furiosa" is in a close battle with "The Garfield Movie" for the No. 1 spot. That's the next "Mad Max" spin-off right there! (Jon Arbuckle's Wasteland name would be Jizzboy the Gronk.)

Saturday Am: This weekend at the Memorial Day box office, the film industry seems to be questioning its existence, ready to jump out of a window. How can a genius, George Miller-directed tentpole prequel to the multi-Oscar winning Mad Max: Fury Road with great reviews and 4 1/2 stars PostTrak exits not be working?
The entire theatrical business is destined for streaming, oh, no! People will forever stay on their couches!
As Cher said to Nicolas Cage in Moonstruck as she smacked him in the face: “Snap out of it!” It’s not really right to make Furiosa, or Garfield, for that matter, the proxies of the Memorial Day box office.
Furiosa is still on track for $31M-$33M. For clarity purposes: The last time a film grossed in this vicinity was the 1980s with Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. However, we stand corrected: It’s the lowest No.

It’s a bit of a wasteland out there for theaters this summer, as Memorial Day weekend is closing out a very underwhelming May on a down note. Warner Bros.’ “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is projected to open well short of the industry’s prior estimates for a $40 million-plus bow over the four-day window. The high-budget action epic is practically neck-and-neck for first place over Sony’s animated adaptation “The Garfield Movie” on domestic charts.
The fireball “Mad Max” prequel sputtered to $10.2 million from 3,804 locations across Friday and preview screenings. It’s got Imax and other premium large-format auditoriums to bolster its ticket sales, too. It’s another tough underperformance this summer. The film’s 2015 predecessor “Mad Max: Fury Road” got to $16 million in its opening day. That movie also put together an impressive awards season run and got canonized by action genre fans. The Garfield Movie has arrived in theaters ahead of Memorial Day to kick off the summer fun alongside Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The animated feature film stars the titular orange tabby cat in a coming-of-age story based on Jim Davis’ iconic cartoon strips and an adapted script from David Reunolds (Finding Nemo) based on an earlier draft from Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove. Mark Dindal (Chicken Little) directs the creature feature.
With Chris Pratt bringing Garfield to life and Samuel L. Garfield (Chris Pratt), as we all know, is a cat who loves lasagne but hates Mondays. Abandoned by his dad in an alleyway in the rain, Garfield teams up in life with Jon (Nicholas Hoult), and Odie (Harvey Guillén), who become his new best friends. Garfield has an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father Vic (Samuel L. Jackson), who draws him into a high-stakes heist.
If you Google it, there have probably been more Garfield movies than you have ever realized. The Garfield movie from 2004 is the one that made the most waves, with follow-ups such as Garfield’s Pet Force understandably flying under the radar. Somehow, the lazy orange cat has been on everyone’s radar 20 years later with The Garfield Movie, and after seeing it,...

We've come to the end of another week here on Cbm, and while it's been a bit of a slow few days for major news, there are more than enough rumors doing the rounds to keep you going!
In this latest round-up of Marvel Cinematic Universe-related rumors, we have (possible) updates on quite a few upcoming big-screen releases, including The Fantastic Four, the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel, and Avengers 5/Secret Wars. There's also talk of a brand-new project (or projects) featuring Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Men.
According to Daniel Richtman, Sony Pictures wants to bring Maguire and Garfield back as their respective takes on Spider-Man (no surprise after the success of No Way Home), but as "key players" in a Multiverse storyline of their own, separate from the McU's.
We have heard that Sony's Tom Rothman and Marvel's Kevin Feige disagreed...

Plot: After Garfield’s unexpected reunion with his long-lost father, ragged alley cat Vic, he and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered lives to join Vic on a risky heist.
Review: Hollywood has been in this phase for a while now where they’re afraid of new IP. So they’re scouring past properties to see if they can breathe new life into them. Attach a popular actor and just see what happens. But after the controversy surrounding Chris Pratt‘s casting in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I don’t think any of us expected him to take the voice role for another famous character. But here we are in 2024 and Chris Pratt is voicing Garfield and it’s every bit of the mess that you would think.

"Let it roll!!" Sony Pictures has debuted a final official trailer for the funny Garfield movie, which is playing in theaters today. They're really hoping this will be a hit with a final marketing push! The Garfield Movie is directed by Mark Dindal, the animation filmmaker also behind The Emperor's New Groove and Chicken Little. The amusing plot has Garfield reuniting with his long-lost father, a scruffy street cat, then ending up involved in a high-stakes heist with him. Starring Chris Pratt as the voice of the sarcastic, lasagna-loving tabby, alongside the voices of Samuel L. Jackson as his father Vic, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Ving Rhames. This new trailer doesn't feature much footage - it's only a clip playing over and over of Garfield with Odie on a robot vacuum going back and forth. That's it. With the "Let It Roll...

Sony Pictures initially planned spin-off films featuring Spider-Man villains after the release of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (2014), but scrapped the idea due to its reception. In February 2015, Sony entered a collaboration with Marvel Studios to integrate Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
This partnership resulted in the release of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (2017), “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (2019), and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021). Concurrently, Sony independently produced “Venom” (2018) and its sequel “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (2021), as well as “Morbius” (2022), all of which featured connections to the MCU through mid-credits scenes.
Upon the release of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which featured Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, MCU fans interpreted their appearance as a hopeful sign for their potential return to more permanent roles.
However, recent rumors suggest otherwise. According to the latest speculation, Sony is contemplating the return of both actors but not within the MCU. Allegedly, Sony has devised its own...

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s entry into the MCU was one of those iconic moments in superhero cinema, that Sony badly wants to recreate. If it were up to them, the Tom Rothman-led studio would have reunited the three heroes once again in the hopes of making another $2 billion phenomenon. Marvel’s constant objection to this plan may have forced Sony to consider another option for Maguire and Garfield.

An orange cat with a hunger for lasagna and a hatred of Mondays made a big impression with his first primetime special, Here Comes Garfield, more than four decades ago.
The lovably sarcastic feline, who returns to the big screen May 24 in Sony’s The Garfield Movie, was created by cartoonist Jim Davis.
Garfield’s self-titled comic strip — featuring the cat giving guff to owner Jon Arbuckle and blissfully oblivious canine nemesis Odie — landed national syndication in 1978, followed by his first book, 1980’s Garfield at Large, topping the New York Times best-seller list.
While working on Here Comes Garfield, Davis struggled to make the cat stand up and dance, but got some assistance from his hero, Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, who happened to be working in the same studio. “He started drawing over my drawing, saying, ‘The problem is, you’ve made Garfield’s feet too small,’ ” Davis once said in an interview.

Garfield — the lasagne-loving, Monday-hating, greedy, grumpy cat originating in Jim Davis’ long-running comic strip — is an awkward fit for a kids’ film. He’s a cynic forced to be a family-friendly goofball, a sarcastic hero being sold to an audience of under-tens with an undeveloped sense of sarcasm, a square pessimist peg in a round optimistic hole. It has been tried unsuccessfully before, in 2004’s Garfield: The Movie and its sequel — those films most notable for the fact that Bill Murray signed on to voice Garfield because he mistakenly (he claimed) thought one of the Coen brothers was behind it.
This latest attempt details how Garfield first met his human ‘pet’, Jon (Nicholas Hoult), and became estranged from his father Vic (Samuel L. Jackson), before the stubborn housecat finds himself on a madcap heist adventure. Whether or not you think this is an origin story that needs to be told...

When Ving Rhames goes from impossible missions to the squared circle for the upcoming boxing drama Uppercut, emotions will fly like so many shots to the breadbasket. Grindstone Entertainment is ringing the bell for the North American rights to Uppercut, which stars Rhames as a trainer who agrees to mold the mind and body of a new female fighter.
Uppercut marks German writer-director Torsten Ruether’s English-language debut for the adaptation of the filmmaker’s 2021 film Leberhaken. The original film’s star, Luiii, aka Luise Grossmann, a former professional pole vaulter-turned-actress, is Duking it out alongside Rhames in the upcoming sports drama. Joanna Cassidy and Jordan E. Garfield isn't actually the first name for the cartoon strip. Way back in 1976 creator Jim Davis named it 'Jon'. It wouldn't be the first time that a different character came to become central to a franchise. The presence of Chris Pratt is a pointer towards animated outposts of multimedia juggernauts, as well as some of this film's wider issues.
Pratt has done a lot of voice work. He's here as Garfield but similarly, digitally, earlier, as Mario. Between Guardians Of The Galaxy, Jurassic World, and The Lego Movie it's hard to estimate just how many action- and mini-figures are out there sounding like him in children's imaginations. Garfield ratchets that number up significantly, not least because it contains a near-obligatory nod to Macy's Thanksgiving parade and the plush cats held onto car windows by suction cups.
Or, perhaps, clear suckers, because that's mostly what I felt I...

For decades, Memorial Day weekend has traditionally been a hugely busy weekend at the box office, often offering the biggest of franchise sequels — or in this case, two potential franchise prequels? Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
The Memorial Day bump that has helped so many franchise installments before will certainly be in play for George Miller‘s return to the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max with “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” a prequel that tells the earlier story of Charlize Theron‘s character from “Mad Max: Fury Road.” This one stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character, joined by Chris Hemsworth as a new antagonist called Dementus, as well a mix of new characters and ones that appeared in “Fury Road.”

A baffling misunderstanding of the charm and appeal of the grouchy cartoon cat is one of many reasons to hate this atrocious new take, along with the many, many ads
There’s not that much to Garfield. Understanding the orange tabby of funny-pages repute is pretty simple: he has a set of integral, inalienable traits – his ill temperament, his cynical outlook, his sedentary lifestyle, his motivation primarily in self-interest and his indifference to owner Jon Arbuckle – that define the grouchy yet likable pop-cultural fixture. Any depiction of a Garfield that eschews these qualities, even while adhering to such superficial markers as his love of lasagne or hatred of Mondays, ceases to be Garfield at all and instead becomes a common cat by any other name, no different than Get Fuzzy’s Bucky, or worse, the godless bastard Heathcliff. In fact, insofar as Garfield-ness is inscribed from the feline personality model...

Chris Pratt voices the famous tabby cat Garfield, in a brand new animation. Here’s our The Garfield Movie review.
The 24th of May in the year of 2024 will be a lovely day. If 2023 was all about Barbenheimer – the weird, but wonderful combination of Barbie and Oppenheimer – 2024 is the year of… Garfuriosa.
We’ll work on the title, but The Garfield Movie and Furiosa, two very different films, are arriving in cinemas on the same day. The Garfield Movie, Mark Dindal’s family-friendly animated adventure may have fewer cars, less action and no fake noses, but there’s much to enjoy here, especially for the kiddos.
Naturally, the film follows the titular tabby (and a little tubby) cat, Garfield, talking in the voice of Chris Pratt here. He is abandoned by his father Vic (Samuel L Jackson) as a kitten, but he spies a lonely human, Jon (Nicholas Hoult) across the street,...

“Garfiosa”? “Furiofield”?
Whatever the portmanteau for this Memorial Day weekend’s dual release of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and “The Garfield Movie,” the two newcomers are aiming to jolt the sluggish summer season.
“Furiosa,” the fifth entry in director George Miller’s post-apocalyptic “Mad Max” series, looks to lead the way with $40 million to $45 million from 3,750 venues over the four-day holiday weekend. Sony’s animated “The Garfield Movie” should trail in second with $30 million to $35 million from 4,000 venues between Friday and Monday. Box office comparisons to the same holiday weekend in 2023 will be tough given that Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” remake took the crown with $118 million.
Warner Bros. spent $168 million on “Furiosa,” not including the many millions to market the movie. It’s not expected to live up to the debut of its predecessor, 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which captured $45 million over three days. That film, led...

There will be moviegoers at the Memorial Day weekend box office; the industry can be thankful for that. Just not as many as the previous two years when the entire 4-day frame exceeded $200M+.
With Warner Bros’ prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Alcon/Sony’s The Garfield Movie hitting marquees, the volume of event product increases, which is good thing. More big movies give people more reasons to attend. Unfortunately, both titles are not Top Gun: Maverick ($160.5M all-time Memorial Day opening record) nor is it last year’s The Little Mermaid stateside start ($118.8M) in their mass appeal.
Furiosa is both a reboot of the Mad Max franchise and a prequel as Anya Taylor-Joy steps into the one armed action of Charlize Theron, who fans of the George Miller franchise are still rabid about when its comes to the desert vigilante’s big screen portrayal. After a...

When the news broke that Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt would lend his voice to the title character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the response was mostly negative.
The actor ultimately proved his detractors wrong and, despite mixed reviews, the 2023 release went on to earn over $1.3 billion for Illumination at the worldwide box office. Can The Garfield Movie find a similar level of success this weekend?
While that remains to be seen, the first wave of reviews isn't particularly kind. In fact, as we write this, The Garfield Movie has a disappointing 52% on Rotten Tomatoes.
That's a "Rotten" score, but The Super Mario Bros. Movie has only 59% and families don't tend to pay as much attention to these scores as regular filmgoers. The Garfield Movie brings the popular Lasagna-loving cat back to the big screen. There were two previous movies about the cartoon cat, with Bill Murray as the voice of the CGI live-action films. However, the new movie is fully animated and is targeted at younger audiences and families.
Here is a look at The Garfield Movie release date, cast listing, and where you can stream it when it arrives.
What Is The Garfield Movie Release Date?
The Garfield Movie hits theaters on May 24, 2024. Directed by Mark Dindal, who also directed Disney’s animated classic The Emperor’s New Groove, this is two months after its initial release date, as Sony and Columbia chose to push it into the summer months to ensure a bigger audience when school lets out.
For those who wait for streaming, the movie won’t likely hit at-home screening until the end of summer, at the earliest.

Ryan Gosling has been making waves since last year, all due to his summer blockbuster, Barbie, creating a global phenomenon. The actor is back with Oppenheimer actress, Emily Blunt in The Fall Guy which will surely make you laugh. But, the movie is miserably failing in one aspect that Chris Pratt’s The Garfield Movie has almost covered way before its release in the United States.

After voicing the leads in The Lego Movie franchise, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and now The Garfield Movie, Chris Pratt has established himself as a go-to voice for iconic animated characters. But after doing these multiple roles, how does he make each voice unique?
At the Los Angeles premiere of Garfield on Sunday, Pratt walked The Hollywood Reporter through each of the different voices, noting that as Emmet in The Lego Movie, he “aimed at something that was different than myself — it was kind of inspired a lot by Bill Hader’s voice and his character in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and for Mario, “you had to find some version that was different than myself but not hardcore Mario from the games because that would grow a little tiresome, I think.”

The Garfield Movie. Photo By Dneg Animation. Copyright © 2023 Project G Productions, LLC Considering it’s a Monday, it seems appropriate to be talking about Garfield the Cat. After all, the cartoon character, which started out as a comic strip more than 45 years ago, famously hated Mondays as much as he liked lasagna. Now, Garfield is back on the big screen with his first fully animated movie adventure, The Garfield Movie. (2004’s Garfield: The Movie mixed live action with animation.) In the new movie, Garfield meets his street-smart estranged father, voiced by none other than Samuel L. Jackson, as cool a cat as there is in Hollywood. Jackson is excited about the movie and said the filmmakers put a lot of thought into how his character would have survived on the streets, along with how the dynamic between father and son would play out. Consider what we know about Garfield the cat: He’s orange, a little plump, he loves lasagna, he hates Mondays, and — ah, well, that’s about it. Enough information to fill about four comic strip panels, wouldn’t you say? And yet, somehow, this lazy kitty and his very mild exploits have inspired three television series (with one more on the way), a dozen prime-time specials, and three feature-length films.
While previous cinematic iterations of Garfield’s story have stretched his adventures to wacky ends — the 2004 “Garfield: The Movie” essentially acted as an origin story, while its 2006 sequel “Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties” put a “Prince and the Pauper”-ish twist on his life — the latest in a long, looooooong line of Garfield adaptations goes in the opposite direction. Mark Dindal’s garishly animated “The Garfield Movie” — not to be confused with “Garfield: The Movie” — inserts a beloved feline...
