Charlie Hunman is headed back to TV, and in a big way. Deadline reports that the British actor will lead the upcoming Prime Video series based on Ed Brubaker‘s graphic novel series “Criminal.” He joins a cast that already includes Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, and Kadeem Hardison. So will Hunman supply the onscreen magic that helped make FX‘s “Sons Of Anarchy” such a smash hit, or will “Criminal” be more like the actor’s last stint in television, the short-lived Apple TV+ series “Shantaram“?

Charlie Hunnam is set to make a return to series television. The former Sons of Anarchy star is set to play the lead in Prime Video’s highly anticipated Criminal, which is based on a series of graphic novels by Ed Brubaker. The series returns Hunnam to the world of organized crime, a genre that’s paid nice dividends for him in between Sons of Anarchy and The Gentlemen. According to Deadline, Hunnam is set to play the lead, “Leo, a brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.”

Joining Richard Jenkins as Ivan will be Adria Arjona as Greta Watson (they appear to have dropped a "t" from the character's first name for some reason).
This take on Greta is described as “a sharp-tongued top-level car thief and driver and the widowed mother of Angie. Ever since her husband died in a bank job gone bad, Greta has been battling with herself about how to escape the only life she’s ever known – and the only place she’s ever thrived. Some of the best movies for kids have a powerful emotional core that pulls at your heartstrings. Whether it's reconciling grief, legacy, and coming-of-age in "The Lion King" (not the "live-action" disappointment) or the tale of an outcast talking pig in "Babe" who learns that being true to yourself is all the world needs you to be, kids movies have the power to teach everyone something about life, no matter how old they are. Writer and director John Krasinski has attempted to step into this arena with "If," hitting theaters this weekend, and it's quite the departure from his sci-fi horror hit "A Quiet Place," though it fits more in line with his sophomore directorial effort, the family dramedy "The Hollars."
"If" follows 12-year old Bea (Cailey Fleming), a girl who doesn't really consider herself a kid anymore. Having dealt with some traumatic pain due to the passing of her mother,...

1993's "Tombstone" features one of the most outstanding collections of facial hair of any movie in history, and star Kurt Russell's incredible crumb catcher is one of the best of the bunch. ("Tombstone" fun fact: There was only one fake mustache in that entire production.) Decades later, in an interview with Esquire, Russell basically said that cinematic trip to mustache nirvana didn't happen by accident. Part of his process as an actor is to seriously consider every aspect of every one of his characters -- especially when it comes to the hair and makeup and costuming.
"I try to draw it from the script and then go into my imagination and do what I think will work," he explained. That approach extended to his ultra-memorable Snake Plissken character in "Escape From New York," because according to the actor, it was his idea for Snake to have an eye patch.

Michael Douglas is in terrific form as Benjamin Franklin in Apple TV’s new historical limited series “Franklin” but he isn’t the only actor to emerge with awards whispers whizzing through the air. Veteran actor Eddie Marsan features in a key supporting role as John Adams and delivers one of the finest performances of his career while also shining a new light onto a man that many actors have depicted before.
The limited series follows Franklin’s eight years in France as he tried to persuade King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to join the colonies’ cause and aid them in the American Revolutionary War. The scenes between Douglas and Marsan are nothing short of spectacular and Marsan nails his performance as Adams, as noted by critics.
Clint Worthington (Roger Ebert) noted: “Marsan’s energy as Adams is decidedly different from Paul Giamatti’s in Ellis’ original 2008 miniseries—“Franklin” feels...

It’s been a long time coming.
In a new promo for his directorial project If, John Krasinski and Steve Carell met up for the first time in years. “Reunited and it feeeeels so gooooood!” the Quiet Place filmmaker wrote in a social media post.
“[Carell] happens to be a dear friend,” Krasinski says in the video. “We actually worked together on this little thing a long time ago.”
The footage captures Krasinski and Carell embracing in a recording studio. “So good to see you,” Krasinski says. “Oh my Lord,” Carell responds. “I was just telling you guys — has it been years?” Krasinski asks. “I’m glad we’re getting it,” Carell jokes, pointing to the camera. “This is so intimate.”
“I just love that this is the fifth take and you did great on this,” Krasinski said, causing Carell to head back to the door for a retake of their greeting.

We've already had one movie this year about an imaginary friend turning out to be not so fictional, and causing chaos in Blumhouse's Imaginary. That didn't exactly impress, so would it have been better if Ryan Reynolds had shown up to announce he was tasting gummy bear farts with his eyeballs? Maybe… but it probably wouldn't have seemed as scary. Still, writer/director John Krasinski is more going for family friendly fun with If, and the final trailer does indeed feature candy fart/eyeball action. Check it out:
If is based on a simple and, as Krasinski has already admitted, Pixar-style idea: a girl (Cailey Fleming) discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends. Trying to figure what she can do with this ability leads her to Reynolds' Cal, whose task it is to reunite forgotten IFs with their kids — or find them new ones.

“True Detective” season four, officially titled “True Detective: Night Country,” has returned the HBO crime series to its former glories after seasons two and three disappointed. This entry follows Jodie Foster as a police chief investigating the vanishing of eight men in the spooky, fictional town of Ennis, Alaska.
One of many things, along with the eerie town and Lovecraftian seasoning, that makes this series so excellent is its cast. Two-time Oscar-winner Foster is joined by a trio of other veterans — Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, and John Hawkes — plus a pair of newcomers: former boxer Kali Reis and rising star Finn Bennett. Bennett plays police Officer Peter Prior, the son of Hawkes’ Captain Prior, and he turns in a nuanced, memorable performance. Critics have agreed, too, he makes the strongest impression amongst the series’ supporting cast.

Earlier this week, we all experienced the first day of spring 2024. We're now fully in the season of rejuvenation, of tossing out the old and bringing in the new, and literally nothing -- not the most intense spring cleaning session, or even the most spectacular miracles of nature itself -- better represents that than the churn of films and TV shows leaving the Netflix streaming service as its rotating library is partially shaken out and replenished with a fresh round of titles.
We know what movies and shows are arriving in April, but what about the projects that are getting the boot and being scattered into the digital ether, potentially disappearing for a while or perhaps popping up on some other streaming service altogether? Thankfully, we have that information at our fingertips as well. And with just a few days left in the month, consider this a ticking clock reminder...

March 17, 1951 was a great day in history, because that the day Kurt Russell entered the world. And while he would go on to become one of the biggest icons of the eighties and nineties, many folks don’t know that Russell started as a child star for Disney, even acting opposite his future life partner Goldie Hawn in The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band (1968). From the sixties into the seventies, he starred in Disney flicks like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), but as the studio’s movies started to flop and Russell got older, a change of pace was needed. Arguably, Russell’s career took off when he began working with director John Carpenter, with the first movie being 1979’s TV movie Elvis, but what are Kurt Russell’s best movies? To celebrate his 73rd birthday, let’s dig into them here.

Netflix comedy movies in March 2024 cover every subgenre in the category. Whether you’re looking to stream slapstick, a rom-com, or something with a side of horror, Netflix’s March additions have something for you.
While any time is a good time to watch a comedy, springtime and laughs can go hand-in-hand. With warmer weather (and summer blockbusters) around the corner, spend your March with Netflix’s best comedy movies.
‘Beverly Hills Ninja’ Coming to Netflix March 1
Celebrate comedy legend Chris Farley by streaming Beverly Hills Ninja on Netflix beginning March 1. The 1997 martial arts comedy marks the final film released during Farley’s lifetime, as the actor died less than a year after its release.
Farley stars as Haru, adopted as a child by a clan of ninjas who believe he’ll become the master promised in legends. As expected, Haru never entirely becomes a ninja despite his best efforts.

Out of all the ways John Krasinski could've followed up his success on the monster horror franchise "A Quiet Place," I don't think anyone foresaw him combining his powers with those of Ryan Reynolds for a high-concept fantasy about imaginary friends. What's more, the marketing for "If" -- a title that has surely already caused no small amount of grief for Seo analysts -- has been somewhat miraculously snark-free. In point of fact, it's hard to watch its trailers without waiting for Reynolds to abruptly knock against the fourth wall or quip about the giant purple creature voiced by Steve Carell. Yet, even in a Super Bowl preview cheekily throwing it back to one of Krasinski's most memorable pranks as Jim on "The Office," the joke is never on the film itself.

While other details are under wraps, there are reports it will feature anime influences and has franchise potential. Production will kick off this April in New Orleans, so expect to learn much more soon.

Ryan Reynolds and Randall Park called back to a beloved moment from The Office in the latest teaser for John Krasinski’s new movie If. In the ad, Ryan Reynolds, who is also one of the film’s stars, appears backstage, speaking about the flick. Park then interrupts by taking the director’s chair and introducing himself as Krasinski, who wrote, directed and stars in If.
“Wait wait wait, hold on. What are you doing?,” asks Reynolds. Park keeps the bit going, saying, “I’m talking about our movie.” Reynolds responds, “You’re not John Krasinski. You’re Randall Park. John Krasinski is much shorter and less Asian.”
Reynolds then resorts to quizzing Park to prove he’s actually the director. Eventually, the Fresh Off the Boat alum announces that the sneak peek can wait until Sunday. The bit continues on throughout the mock behind-the-scenes featurette, with Park standing in for Krasinski.

With the 2023 Oscar nominations now in hand, it’s clear that Margot Robbie’s exclusion from the best actress race, along with “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig’s director snub, has outraged the blockbuster film’s massive global fanbase. Oscar nominations for supporting players America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling haven’t calmed the social media fury over what is perceived by Robbie fans as an unfathomable and unforgivable oversight.
What everyone seems to be forgetting is that when it comes to Oscar love, especially for actors, Oscar voters annually choose spinach over sweets, meat and potatoes over champagne and caviar. They like their movies serious and meaningful, and their actors tortured by real world woes such as physical disabilities, addictions, mental illness and all the oppressions and injustices that our mad mad world has to offer.

‘Succession’ wins for Outstanding Drama Series at the 75Th Emmy Awards (Photo © 2024 Fox Media LLC)
In a normal year, the 2023 Emmy Awards would have actually taken place in 2023. But last year was anything but normal in Hollywood, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused the award ceremony’s postponement to January 15, 2024.
Fans of Succession, The Bear, and Beef had a lot to celebrate as Emmy voters threw most of the awards in their direction. Succession and The Bear tied with six wins each, and Beef wasn’t far behind with five.
Highlights included Christina Applegate’s surprise appearance on stage to a standing ovation, Carol Burnett presenting to Quinta Brunson (the first Black actress to win as Lead Actress in a Comedy since 1981), and Niecy Nash-Betts’ powerful acceptance speech for Dahmer. There were also cast reunions and Sir Elton John finally received the E portion of Egot for his Farewell From Dodger Stadium special.

Way back in (checks notes) July last year, we reported on the Emmy nominations, noting that the strikes could delay it. Welp, delay it they did, and the 2023 ceremony has just happened in Los Angeles on Monday night. The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, had little reference to the strikes, but did dig back into TV history given that it was the 75th ceremony. Recent history, though, was more on voters' minds as Beef, Succession and The Bear continued their small screen awards domination.
Succession and The Bear nabbed six trophies each across acting, directing and writing categories, while Beef took home five. Other winners included Jennifer Coolidge (for The White Lotus) and Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story's Niecy Nash-Betts.
