The boos that were heard around the world, however, were not heard later on following the ‘Roast of Tom Brady’ edits. This has led fans to point fingers and they think Kim Kardashian has used her massive influence to get Netflix to tone down the moment that many think must have been a humiliating one for the reality TV star.
Netflix has responded to these claims.

Ellen DeGeneres is returning to Netflix for her final stand-up special, six years after her last comedy hour, “Relatable.”
The special, which marks her second for Netflix, will arrive later in 2024. It will be produced by Ben Winston and Fulwell73.
In addition to the special, DeGeneres will also kick off a multi-city stand-up tour on June 19 in San Diego.
“To answer the questions everyone is asking me – Yes, I’m going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special. Yes, Portia really is that pretty in real life,” DeGeneres said in a statement.
The comedian and talk show legend is most likely referring to her controversial exit from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2022, after allegations of a toxic workplace, which included accusations of harassment from executive producers. In light of a BuzzFeed News report and internal investigation from WarnerMedia, DeGeneres took responsibility for the workplace culture and apologized to her staff.

Since Tom Brady’s Netflix roast, viewers have speculated about how much the NFL star truly was upset over Jeff Ross’ joke that alluded to Patriots owner Robert Kraft being charged with soliciting prostitution after an investigation into massage parlors in Florida.
Now, comedian Andrew Schulz, who participated in the roast, is saying that he believes that uncomfortable moment “was 100 percent real.”
“The reason why I think it’s real is because they told us no jokes about happy endings with Bob Kraft,” Schulz said on his Flagrant podcast.
Schulz explained that he had a joke about former Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss receiving a “happy ending” from Kraft. “They were like, ‘Tom asked us not to do anything with the massage shit,'” the comedian recalled. “I was like, ‘All right, cool. The guy’s coming here for this thing. He’s not getting roasted.'”

Kim Kardashian was met with resounding boos at Netflix’s roast of Tom Brady — but you’d never know it unless you watched it live.
The streamer has edited out the portion of the roast where Kardashian was booed, TVLine has confirmed. (The Hollywood Reporter first noted the change.) In Sunday’s original live broadcast, Kardashian was booed loudly as she took the stage at the roast, stopping midway through her first joke to glare at the crowd as several of her fellow roasters came to her defense. But in the version currently streaming on Netflix, the booing is nowhere to be found.

Los Angeles is not the first city fans would associate with comedian John Mulaney. That would be Chicago, his hometown and the backdrop to innumerable childhood anecdotes in his stand-up act, or New York, where he broke out as a writer on “Saturday Night Live” and shot a special at Radio City Music Hall. But L.A. is where Mulaney now lives; it’s also currently home to the second iteration of Netflix Is a Joke, a massive, weeklong comedy festival organized by the streaming service as a show of genre dominance. (Netflix stand-up head Robbie Praw used to run programming at Montreal’s vaunted Just for Laughs event and has essentially created a West Coast version.) And so we have “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” a weeklong special event combining studio segments, pre-taped sketches and man-on-the-street interviews into a sort of pop-up talk show.

Over the last six years, Leslie Liao has been living a double life.
By day, she’s an employee in the Hr department at Netflix — by night, a fast-rising stand-up comic. “I tried to keep both parts of my life very compartmentalized,” Liao tells Deadline of her rise from beginner to emerging comic during her time at the streamer. “So, it almost was like a Superman-Clark Kent thing.”
Now, though, Liao is going full Superman, after landing a stand-up special with the company she was working for in an entirely different capacity.
Liao is among the rising comedic stars doing short sets in Verified Stand-Up, a two-part special that dropped on the service November 28th. She first came to Netflix’s attention, as a performer, while performing in front of its stand-up team at L.A. venue Dynasty Typewriter.
While working at Netflix, Liao says, she hasn’t actively hid her artistic aspirations.

In the niche world of comedy touring, Mike Berkowitz has always been “the guy.” Over his 21-year career, the agent has been a go-to dealmaker in the live entertainment space, diversifying the income of star clients and launching digital crossovers.
Berkowitz, who co-heads WME’s comedy group, first distinguished himself by tapping into the lucrative college market. He also blazed a trail for new acts to reach stadium-level stardom in a landscape where only the likes of Eddie Murphy and George Carlin once played.
The sector has exploded in the past decade, and Berkowitz has been at the forefront. In 2022, he booked and shepherded production on Bill Burr’s 31 million-grossing tour, as well as Kevin Hart and Chris Rock’s co-headlining shows. He sent out John Mulaney (50.2 million) and Amy Schumer (9 mil- lion), the latter for her first tour in five years. Next, he’ll map out dates for Ramy Youssef,...

First commercials, now live events: Netflix is trying everything to remain culturally relevant (except maybe renew beloved shows).
“Chris Rock: Selective Outrage” will become the streamer’s first live-streamed global event when Rock takes the stage at 10 p.m. Est, March 4, in Baltimore. That’s less than a year after The Slap, when Will Smith struck Rock during the live Oscars broadcast. Presumably, there will be no such interruption during this live event.
“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” Netflix VP of Stand-Up and Comedy Robbie Praw said in a statement at the time of the special’s initial announcement. “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.

It's been six years since Netflix shelled out 40 million to Chris Rock for the rights to stream two stand-up specials, but we've only seen one, 2018's scathingly self-reflective "Tamborine," thus far. Netflix is utilizing its move into live streaming technology with Chris Rock becoming the first person to test it out.
Rock will perform live in a global streaming event in 2023.
It comes after Deadline revealed in May that the streamer was experimenting with the technology.
It was noted upon that Rock had another Netflix special to come after the infamous slap incident from Will Smith at the Oscars. Rock has been out on his Ego Death tour over the last few months and during a show in London promised that he would discuss more about his Oscars experience on Netflix.
“People expect me to talk about the bullshit, I’m not going to talk about it right now, I’ll get to it eventually, on Netflix,” he said.
It also marks Rock’s second Netflix special after Tamborine in 2018. He also appeared at the Netflix is a Joke festival alongside Dave Chappelle earlier this year.

For decades, there was a standard path to sitcom stardom: Start out in standup, get spotted by a network or studio scout, land a development deal and then hopefully star in a hit comedy based on your routine. That pipeline peaked in the 90s, when comedians like Tim Allen, Roseanne Barr, Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano and others were examples of how that pattern worked. Until it didn’t. Ensemble comedies (often single-camera) like “The Office” and “Modern Family” began to overshadow those comic-driven laffers.
But as streamers entered the scene over the last decade, standup specials became a quick way to build a library of content featuring established, top-tier talent. Now, with standup once again in the forefront, a new kind of comedy ecosystem is forming — with Netflix, in particular, eager to lead the charge.

The month-long comedy rollout begins with “The Hall: Honoring the Greats of Stand-Up,” on May 19, which has John Mulaney paying tribute to Robin Williams, Dave Chappelle on Richard Pryor, Chelsea Handler on Joan Rivers and Jon Stewart to George Carlin.
Dave Chappelle’s show at the Hollywood Bowl, where a fan attacked the comic, turned out to be the most talked-about event of the festival. But it won’t be released, at least, not on Netflix. Before the festival took place,...

It’s been a tough few weeks for Netflix. The streamer lost subscribers for the first time in over a decade and its market value took a battering, losing over 50 billion in one day after its disappointing first quarter earnings.
Laughter, they say, is the best medicine and the streamer will have plenty of those over the next ten days as it gets ready to launch its Netflix Is A Joke festival, a major statement of intent to the comedy community that will see over 330 comedians take to the stage at 288 live shows across Los Angeles with 250,000 tickets sold.
The company has put together a wild collection of jokers – two years on from when it was originally scheduled and subsequently pulled because of the pandemic.
There are those that you’d expect to be at such an event, from Adam Sandler, Aziz Ansari and Kevin Hart. There are those that...

When the Netflix is a Joke festival was first announced in March 2020, it was much smaller in size and scope — and then the pandemic happened. “To have to delay was really disappointing, but it gave us more time to grow the festival substantially because we felt like the idea of celebrating stand-up and comedy took on a whole new meaning,” says Robbie Praw, Netflix’s VP of standup and comedy formats.
The end result, a joint effort between Netflix and Live Nation, takes place in Los Angeles between April 28 and May 8. It features more than 280 events (at last count) across the city at locations ranging from Dodger Stadium, the Forum, Crypto.com Arena and the Hollywood Bowl to major theaters and comedy venues.
Around a dozen of those show will be taped to stream on Netflix, including Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias making history by becoming the first stand-up comedian to ever perform at Dodger Stadium.

Marc Maron is having a productive quarantine. Holed up in his home in Los Angeles, Maron subscribed to the Criterion Channel, most recently watching “A Place in the Sun,” “From Here to Eternity,” “The Friends of Eddie Coyle,” and an old Rita Hayworth movie. He’s been following the new season of “Better Call Saul,” and working on a new script with his partner, Lynn Shelton, who directed him in last year’s “Sword of Trust” and Netflix’s “Glow.”
And of course, he still has the podcast. While much of the world struggles with the sudden necessity to stay indoors, Maron reinvented the work-from-home rulebook when he launched “Wtf with Marc Maron” in 2009 — before a deluge of comedians deuted on the platform — and he’s been churning out deep-dive interviews ever since. Episode 1,106, featuring an interview with Thandie Newton, posted on Monday, and Maron said he has enough recorded...
