Apocalyptic gold
cutetimster3 June 2024
Wel here I am struggling across the post apocalyptic world and I am only on episode 3 ! Pedro Pascal is obviously really fantastic in this series..He always seems to have a dead pan way of delivering his lines which is almost compulsory with the hero character.. Bella Ramsey is absolutely brilliant and is a great at making her character really believable. I have never played the game but as a standalone TV series this show hods it's own really easily. I always try to review films or TV shows I have watched without giving away any plots , hopefully I have succeeded with this one .If you haven't seen The Last Of Us then do because it's really worth spending your time on .. Tim.

great series
kramerthecat3 June 2024
The extraordinary success of the series is a testament to the skill of its creators and the required (and growing) correlation between the worlds of gaming and television. But the increased worker in it, the dimensions of the cause to the environment, are more than anything the testimony of some of us who are constantly anticipating something, to belong to one big global community - one that gathers around foci of the "last of us" kind, dabbles in them until thin, and then moves on to the next thing that will become a cultural reality. , until he also vacates his place. Can "The Last of Us" reach the heights of works of the "Game of Thrones" genre, which has weakened the cultural discourse for almost a decade? We will find that out, but for now, let her - and yourselves - enjoy the moment. Nevertheless, at any moment the world can jump into a fungal apocalypse, so it's a waste of every second.

TLOU walked so that Fallout & more can run
MilesMcfly5 June 2024
This series cleared the way for more great storytelling by adapting videogame-storys.

There's been a little history with videogame to movie adaptations. This history is mainly driven by moneyhungry producers who just wanted to earn money by using names of beloved videogames like Mortal Combat, Far Cry & more. While the new Halo-series shows this is still a thing, The last of us brings some fresh air into the business. Not only by truly sticking to the source material, but also by using the starpower of Pedro Pascal ( I mean, this man owns the Daddy-Meme now.)

Altough i love the game, and maybe i'm nitpicking here, i expected a little more from the series. This was ( at most parts ) a 1 on 1 adaptation. And i guess thats what most of the fans wanted, but for me this could've been a great opportunity to give the whole story even more depth. This whole series felt a little rushed in some way ( making sense, if you think about it: If you cut the gameplay out of the whole experience, of course it feels kinda short.)

Nevertheless, the story is still a great one, and i can't wait for the next season ( Hoping they add some new storyparts here and there).

One of the best post apocalyptic shows.
nmpjgxwqj25 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The Last of Us TV series is a masterclass in storytelling, with Pedro Pascal delivering a phenomenal performance as Joel. He brings depth and nuance to the character, perfectly capturing the complexity of a man haunted by his past. The show's atmospheric tension, paired with its thoughtful pacing, makes for a gripping experience. The supporting cast, particularly Bella Ramsey as Ellie, shines alongside Pascal. The show's themes of love, loss, and survival are expertly woven throughout, making for a compelling and emotional ride. A must-watch for fans of the game and newcomers alike! However, if you're coming from the game, expect minor differences from the storyline.

Post-Apocalyptic films/tv series are always my favourite ones.
catleughluke23 March 2024
This is my review on The Last Of Us; First of all, I love the show. It gets confusing at first if you're coming from a game, but cast is amazing.

Pedro Pascal is the best Joel for the show. Also, acting of Bella Ramsey stunned me, she went from badass to soft like clicks.

Cast and crew for me is top tier. Plot is amazing. Whole setup and CGI is amazing.

I haven't completed the show yet, I'm 50% in (watch full 4 and half 5th episode) but so far the show is doing a great job.

As i said it gets confusing if you're coming from a game, but so far this is by far the best show ever coming off of a game.

Give us more!

Warning: Spoilers
As a middle aged woman, the last of my thoughts was to watch a zombie movie but then, I stumbled into this and I got instantly hooked. Every single character is unique and visibly broken, after all is a post apocalyptic movie so it makes perfect sense unlike the avalanche of cheap horror movies where they all look healthy and with their hair always in place. The atmosphere is so depressing that the pain of every single character is almost palpable. Joel and Ellie did an outstanding job in showing their fear and anger but so did the other characters. This is not a zombie story though the undead are like that due to a virulent pandemic infection. When global tragedies like that happens, the true nature of a human is revealed. At the very beginning, Joel is running away by car with his daughter and his brother, along the way they see a family of 3 with a little child desperately asking for help but Joel refuses to help them thus condemning them to certain death at night in a place crowling with infected. It may be a coincidence or fate but soon after he will have to experience the death of his own daughter. This series is a journey into rock bottom feelings yet, when you are lost in the darkness seek for the light. A masterpiece in every single aspect: thank you for giving us this. I want more!

Best series based on a video game-Period.
jeffnovak-9186327 May 2024
This series is the best adaptation of a video game or series based on a video game. Plot is great, acting is great, visually stunning and top notch cast. Anything Pedro Pascal is in is streaming gold. He's the Hollywood Golden Goose. Rest of the cast is just as good. Nick Offerman is a real surprise in his role, haven't seen him play anything like this before. Bella Ramsey is just about as perfectly cast as Pascal and the chemistry between them is near perfect. Anna Torv is great as usual as well. There is just enough environmental landscape combined with the creatures to give you that creepy feeling the video game accomplished, the clickers are just spot on. Some good comedic relief at times between Pascal and Ramsey to break up the horror of their situation. Can't praise this series enough but I'll try. It has everything an excellent tv series should have. Great plot, cast, cinematography , chemistry, pace and very entertaining.

Disappointing
inc-133-700135 April 2023
"You come at the king, you best not miss", a line from HBO's "The Wire" was what's repeating in my head while I watched this.

As a TV show in itself, It's not exactly bad. It's probably quite a bit better than usual gruel we get from streaming platforms.

But it went after a bar that's way too high for it. It follows the story of the game pretty closely, even re-enacting memorable scenes down to camera angles, such as when protagonists first saw the overtaken city and such. It changes story here and there, but often it works quite well. I don't mind Sarah being... different. I don't mind re-imagining how things went here or there. I actually quite like little flashbacks/whatever scenes about stuff that builds the story or explains the lore, but wasn't in the game. It's all good.

As long as the core premise holds. But it doesn't. I do buy Pedro Pascal, he looks like Joel, pretty much walks and talks like Joel, and feels right. But Bella Ramsey can't deliver Ellie. And it's not even her fault. Sure, she looks quite... off... and doesn't really come off or feel like a 14-year old (because she's not), but main problem is the aggressive, clueless script she's given.

Story of "Last of Us", the game that won uncountable awards, was about a strong man coping with extreme loss, and a scared girl trying to get close to him, while slowly opening up and showing she's pretty capable on her own.

Story of "Last of US", the HBO show, I'm not sure. Ellie in this one isn't a scared, suspicious, lonely girl trying to survive. Her very first scenes are full of cursing and gritting of teeth, she's a total badass with zero explanation to this, and goes more aggressive by every episode. The main theme just never comes through. Rather than someone Joel grows to love and care for as his own child, I keep wondering when he's going to dump her in the wilderness.

Or to put it simply, they tried to add girl power where none was needed (because game had more than enough), and totally overdid it, killing the main premise.

Which makes this entire show waste of time, because highly superior medium, telling that story times better, already exists.

Play the game. Skip this show.

A Riveting Apocalyptic Tale
camposcetinamauricio11 March 2024
"The Last of Us" makes its mark as a gripping adaptation of the renowned video game series, offering a fresh perspective on the apocalyptic genre. As someone unfamiliar with the games, I approached the series with curiosity, and I was pleasantly surprised by its immersive storytelling and compelling characters.

The first episode sets a high bar, immediately drawing viewers into its world and establishing an emotional connection. From the informative yet understated prologue to the brilliant opening sequences, the episode captivates with its cinematic quality and pacing.

Throughout the episode, we are introduced to a diverse cast of characters, each with their own strengths and flaws. Pedro Pascal shines as the lead, bringing a sense of familiarity and trustworthiness to his role. Meanwhile, Bella Ramsey, known for her role in Game of Thrones, delivers a performance that is less wooden and more nuanced, promising an engaging character arc.

Despite being only one episode in, "The Last of Us" shows immense potential, earning a solid rating of 9 out of 10. However, the true test lies in whether the series can maintain this standard and narrative coherence throughout its run.

The series distinguishes itself by blending elements from various apocalyptic stories, resulting in a unique and multifaceted narrative. It seamlessly transitions between action, thriller, drama, suspense, and even humor, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.

What sets "The Last of Us" apart is its exploration of complex human emotions and ethical dilemmas in the face of catastrophe. Characters grapple with questions of morality, survival instinct, and the value of human life, blurring the lines between heroes and villains.

At its core, the series delves into the bond between Joel and Ellie, evolving into a father-daughter relationship defined by sacrifice and protection. Their journey challenges viewers to consider the lengths they would go to for the ones they love, even at the expense of humanity itself.

With its rich storytelling, dynamic characters, and thought-provoking themes, "The Last of Us" offers a profound exploration of human nature in the midst of chaos. It stands alongside acclaimed apocalyptic series like The Walking Dead and Black Mirror, earning a rating of 8.5 out of 10.

Overall, "The Last of Us" proves to be a standout addition to the genre, delivering a compelling narrative that resonates with both gamers and television enthusiasts alike. As the series continues to garner praise and accolades, it solidifies its place as a must-watch for fans of gripping storytelling and immersive world-building.

Great first episode
eve_dolluk16 January 2023
***" Update after watching the full series ****

Well I think overall Id give this a 7 or 8, the opening episode was definitely a 9 the rest of the show would be getting either 7 or 8s depending on how appealing they were to me.

Everything was well made, well acted, well shot etc. The brutality of it all was maintained throughout. I watched some of the game footage on you tube and there is a lot here that is identical to the game so thats a plus for fans of the game plus it works for a TV show so kudos to the game makers.

The story and overlying themes are very simple and relate to parenting and how we protect our children or the young.

It could have had more Cordyceps and more action in places but this was more of a drama surrounding the struggles of a broken world.

Overall ill give it an 8 out of 10 a very good Tv Show that stays loyal to its source and was very well produced.

**** Update *******

Ill start by saying I've never played the games, I've no idea how true to the source it is.

The first episode was very impressive, they told hold back here and emotionally you are involved quite early on.

The prologue was informative but understated, The opening was brilliant and as good as anything you would see in a movie.

The middle section is good and paced well to provide enough information going forward as to the objective the players and whats happened to the world outside.

The episode ends at the start of an adventure.... I hope this quality remains throughout the show so the adventure is as good as the opening ( a hard act to follow ).

Ive enjoyed the characters so far, not all likeable but our lead Pedro Pascal is familiar and trustworthy and does a good job. Bella Ramsey of Game of Thrones fame plays the female lead, I really hated her in Game of Thrones, her acting is a bit less wooden here so I hope I don't end up hating her in this. So far she has been fine.

Its only 1 episode but its probably a 9 out of 10. I would be shocked if they can keep up this sort of standard and narrative throughout the series. Having said that there is plenty of scope for some interesting scenes. Im not a big fan of Zombie films or shows but can find them entertaining. ( I found Black Summer S2 brilliant )

I hope this doesn't turn out to be just another zombie show.

9/10 ( Ep1)

Feels as natural as possible.
Lukasmj26 March 2024
First of all, I would like to say that I have never played the games and therefore cannot make any comparisons.

But that was not a problem at all. You can understand the series completely even if you have not played the games.

The first thing that caught my eye were the incredibly beautiful and detailed sets. Even though you can clearly see here and there that some things were done with a the computer, that does not take away from the atmosphere of the series at all.

The other thing that struck me as very positive was how natural the relationships and dialogues felt.

The relationship between Elli and Joel in particular felt more real than I have rarely seen in a series.

The acting was also good. I already knew Pedro Pascal and therefore expected him to do well, which he did without question.

I had not heard of Bella Ramsey before, so I did not know what to expect, but her performance really blew me away. She did her role damn well and I am convinced that she has a successful future in acting ahead of her.

Totally worth it!
tjportola9 February 2024
To start I have never played the video game this series is based in. With that being said this show got me hooked right away. The story line and how they created the whole world was done perfectly. The emotion in the acting was very believable and got me into what was going on even more.

I watched the whole first season in two nights and within seconds of the last episode ending I was on google looking when season two would be here. Can't wait to see what they bring to this world. As someone who hasn't played the game like I said it left me in a cliff hanger and honestly think that makes it better then knowing what possibly is to come.

The Last of Us: A Masterful Adaptation of a Critically Acclaimed Game
OzzzzSSzzzzO17 January 2023
"The Last of Us," the highly-anticipated HBO series based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name, is a truly remarkable viewing experience that will leave you captivated from start to finish. The show expertly adapts the game's powerful storytelling and characters for the small screen, delivering a thrilling and emotionally charged journey through a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a deadly fungus.

One of the show's greatest strengths is its commitment to character development and emotional depth. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey give outstanding performances as Joel and Ellie, respectively, and the script does a masterful job of exploring the complex bond that forms between them as they navigate the dangers of a fallen society. The series also manages to expand on the game's already rich world-building, delving deeper into the politics and power struggles of the remaining human settlements.

The direction and production design are also top-notch, with the series effectively capturing the gritty, desperate feel of a world on the brink of collapse. The cinematography and score also deserve special mention, adding to the overall atmosphere of the show and amplifying the emotional impact of key scenes. The special effects used in the series are also outstanding and adds to the cinematic feel of the show.

The series also delves into the psychological and emotional impact of the characters, and the audience can see the gradual change in the characters throughout the series. The script is well written and leaves a lasting impact on the audience. The pacing of the series is also well done and keeps the audience engaged throughout the show.

Overall, "The Last of Us" is a must-watch for fans of the game and newcomers alike. The series manages to stay true to the source material while also standing on its own as a masterful piece of storytelling. It's a thrilling and ultimately hopeful, tale of survival and humanity in the face of unimaginable horror that will leave you in awe.

It is the storytelling, powerful performances, and the intense atmosphere that will leave you captivated and sets it apart as an unforgettable watch. The series also raises some thought-provoking questions about the nature of humanity and the lengths we will go to survive. It's a series that will stay with you long after you've finished watching it."

I was skeptical at first but this show expectations by a mile!
stxvxiphone15 January 2023
I was skeptical when the show first went into developement and when gradually the cast was announced. I'm personally not a fan of Part 2 but I always somewhat had faith in HBO as HBO Originals are peak 90% of the time & they are some of my favourite shows of all time & for good reason. But I was still skeptical. But now that I got to watch the first episode at a screening, It was a lot better than I expected. A lot. Everything was on point. Like it's not a scene to scene adaptation of the game. But what it totally succeeds at is capturing the heart, lore, vibe, world of the The Last of Us. And with utter perfection. The acting is on point. I knew Pedro was going to be amazing as Ellie but I was skeptical about Nico as Sarah & Bella as Ellie. But watching this episode has removed any and all worries I had. Bella totally killed it as Ellie. I never thought I'd say this but she really did. The change from tendrils to spores is something I'm not a big fan of but it works here pretty nicely. Many scenes & dialogue are straight from the game. All that said, the production design is brilliant, the cinematography is what you'd expect from an HBO Original. And I haven't seen many other reviews praising Gustavo's work. Gustavo, the composer kills here with his incredible score same as the games.

And I never ever though I was going to say this but this is actually a pretty faithful adaptation of Bruce Straley & Neil Druckmann's work then years ago.

Sorry if this has grammatical & language errors, English is not my first language.

Well done for sticking to the plot of the game
gallev-3316020 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As a guy who admires the video game, played it several times and enjoyed it every single time, its hard to say I'm not biased about this. On the other hand, because I loved the game that much, it could have created a lot of negativity serrounding the series.

THANK GOD they actually took the game, and made a series based on the game nerrative and main story line.

Characters:

Joel - Probably one of my favourite characters of all time, literall masterpiece of character design, as an upcoming father, I connected even more to his story and couldn't let go of what he did for Ellie.

Ellie - I think game Ellie is much better then series Ellie, but Bella did overall good job with taking this perfect innocent young girl, and create her again in a series, which was not an easy task.

Overall what makes the last of us so great, is the fact that no one can really find hapiness in this cruel world, you can see it with Sam, with Ellie, with Joel, with each and every character that can't find pure hapiness, and even if they do for a couple of seconds, the cruel world takes them back to the sorrow of the reality they live in, as depressing as it sounds, this is where real relationships are made, Joel and Ellie's relationship is just something out of this world.

Must watch in my opinion.

Death by Shrooms...
sherwoodbandit-197710 March 2024
This is easily the best new television series I've seen in a very long time. The writing, directing, cinematography and performances are all immaculate. I had very little context, having never played the games or knowing much about the story, but Post-Apocalyptic stories are my jam. The Stand has been my favorite novel forever, I Am Legend, early Walking Dead...these are stories that I am the target audience for. I wanted to wait for all of the episodes to be available so that I could binge and I wasn't disappointed by this. Sure, social media ruined several of the storylines for me months ago, but that didn't stop me from being completely sucked in and enjoying this series to the fullest extent. I don't hand out a lot of 10s on this app, but this was the easiest rating to give to date. Looking forward to season two!

Poor
richardhowarth2837 May 2024
Another grossly over hyped seen it all before TV show.

As a fan of the video game franchise I found the TV series very disappointing. I wasn't expecting a carbon copy of the game and was looking forward to an enhanced retelling of the story.

I liked the parts detailing how the pandemic started.

Everything that made the game great is missing. Some of the best parts totally excluded. There is no tension , dramatic scenery of decaying buildings etc.

How can a game over 10 years old have better writing and character interaction?

Aside from the roles of Joel , Tess , Bill & Henry the casting is poor. I'm sure Bella Ramsey is a good actress but is not right for the role of Ellie.

Some of the added characters (Kathleen) do nothing to improve the story.

I found myself bored for the most part.

The show is nothing more than a poor mans Walking Dead.

A beautiful story
diaz-karina1126 March 2023
It's a beautiful show. Everything in one zombies, action and love. A beautiful innocent bond is form between a man and a girl. He sees her as his daughter. Pedro pascal does a great job portraying Joel. I am in love with the story. Me and my brother bench watch it. The action scenes are incredible and so it's the pace of the story. Not everything had to be zombies to fully enjoy this story. Love it from beginning to end. For anyone saying is boring it's because it's not only about wars and zombies it's about survival. Who to trust who not to. It's a survival adventure voyage these two characters take.

First Season: An Aesthetically Heartbreaking Masterpiece
mikkiparker13 March 2023
The first season of The Last of Us is a masterpiece of post-apocalyptic storytelling that will leave you wanting more. There is hardly anything to complain about, except for maybe the slight absence of the infected. However, this is a minor quibble when you consider the fantastic adaptation of the game, which seamlessly blends game elements with original ideas, stories and the history of the characters.

One of the most impressive aspects of the show for me is its stunning cinematography, which beautifully captures the desolate, haunting world of the post-apocalypse. The costumes and makeup are also noteworthy, adding a layer of realism to the show that truly immerses you in this dystopian landscape. But what truly makes The Last of Us so remarkable, in my personal opinion, is its cast of characters, brought to life by a talented ensemble of actors. In particular, the relationship between Joel and Ellie is a standout, with the two characters forming an unlikely bond that is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching. Joel, a stubborn and gruff survivor, becomes the reluctant protector of Ellie, a young girl and he is willing to sacrifice the whole world for her.

Despite the absence of the infected, The Last of Us is a series that deserves ten stars (decided to subtract a star because of the infected). The other aspects of the show, including its exceptional writing, outstanding acting, and captivating cinematography, more than make up for any minor flaws. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction or just great storytelling in general, The Last of Us is a must-watch. Get ready to be transported to a world unlike any other, where survival is the ultimate goal and the only thing that matters is the bond between those who are left.

A thrilling experience.
AgentPhoenixxx8 April 2024
The Last of Us is a zombie tv series based on a popular video game. There's no context needed, the directors did an excellent job making this for everyone.

It's very high quality with excellent cinematography and music that sets the gritty tone. From the very first scene you know exactly what you're getting and the suspense is built throughout the show masterfully. The actors brings so much life and emotion to the table with truly captivating performances.

The only major pitfall of this first season is that the third episode takes a detour and doesn't advance the plot, while it does effectively show life during the apocalypse the time could have been used better.

The Last of Us is extremely high quality and deserves all the praise it's getting. If it continues this suspense and focus on morality in the second season then it's looking like an all time great.

i like it
JUSTINMK1144 April 2024
It is very good but not as good as the games PS5 feel like a more valent movie.

The way they did it is good I hope there will be a Days Gone movie ..

there is a lot to the game of the last of us that is not in the show if you like the show, you should play the game.

Part 2 or season 2 may be darker and a lot of people ask why.

But I hope the part 2 season 2 is good too like the game good actors so far.

Sony does put out some really good stuff.

I need more part 3 the game would be nice too.

The demand is very strong for the last of us... Maybe when the show is over, they can take their time and make a movie ...

Games vs TV Show
daan-501888 April 2024
I played both games before watching this TV show.

Normally I was a multilayer gamer but I gave these games a go as they scored high and they didn't disappoint me.

I stopped gaming and this is the second time I'm watching it. I gotta say I like it better than the first time.

Soon after I played the games if not playing the second game simultaneous, I watched the show.

The game is that good that I compared it to the show and for the show it's hard to compete.

I had to get used to the actors, but also I knew where the story went which was less exciting. Now after months knowing what series are out there and having the storyline less in my mind, this one is a perl and deserves a a good score.

I missed them when they were gone...
Jeddia6 January 2024
I'd seen the hype in the headlines about this show. I'm the type to wait for the physical media release (yes, I'm old)... So I avoided spoilers and awaited the 4k release and was not disappointed...

As a film generated from a video game, expectations are usually low - but the headlines said otherwise... Even the special features on the discs show the shot by shot staging of scenes from the game...

They brought this game (that I didn't play) to the screen in full glory - nothing was left to be desired.

And the chemistry between Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal is nothing short of legendary.. When the first season ended - I immediately missed them. Can't wait to see more.

And the cinematography and special effects are spot on...

That's how you start a TV series!
raphaelmarcelino16 January 2023
First of all, I'd like to make it clear that I'm writing this review having only watched the episode and never having played the game or researched anything about it.

The first episode had everything we can expect from an introduction of a new series, it was intense, exciting, it held our attention at every minute creating a hostile atmosphere even in the most ordinary scenes.

The construction of the post-apocalyptic world was done perfectly, showing us the origin of the end, and leaving us looking forward to what will come after.

The next episodes have everything to be even better. Well done!
