Johanna, however, refuses to accompany him to the prestigious event, instead remaining seated in the taxi and letting herself be whisked off into the night by astonished young driver Ellie Pietschek. It will be a journey into another world for her because the chaotic Ellie quickly realizes that this high-society lady desperately needs a little emotional support. So she offers Johanna temporary asylum. While the angry Ruprecht has his wife's credit cards blocked at home, Johanna wakes up in Ellie's apartment: part of a harbor house in a former working-class district, where the taxi driver lives as a single mother with two growing children. Johanna is fascinated by Ellie's unconventional lifestyle and spontaneously offers her help when she learns that the residents should leave the old house before the upcoming Christmas holidays because of a dodgy eviction complaint. The two new friends use a trick to prevent the planned demolition. When Katja finds out about the infidelity, there is only one consequence for her: divorce. Oddly enough, the tablecloth between the two wasn't actually cut after the divorce. Just now he starts a relationship with the charming waitress Aimee. And so the back and forth goes on. - Since her husband's death, Gundula Glöckner has only lived for her work as a church geriatric nurse--and for her two children Michel and Lena. The supermother always wants the best for her offspring, which is why she can no longer see Lena falling for the wrong men over and over again. She decides to put in a good word for her daughter's happiness in love at the highest point and signs up for a pilgrimage to Padua. At the grave of St. Anthony, she wants to ask for a decent husband for her daughter. With this goal she is in good company, because the tour was designed by Pastor Schrotmann especially for Catholic singles, inviting participants to use the spiritual power of the sacred to find what they have lost: love. The grumpy bus driver Benno has mostly ridicule for his pilgrim passengers, but the small group of illustrious Lonely Hearts doesn't let that spoil their mood. Lively "Jumbo", for example, tries to flirt with Gundula before he starts his trip, which she deliberately ignores. 15-year-old Michel feels drawn to Violetta, who is as beautiful as she is spiritually-minded. And while professional soldier Werner seems to find his Catholic dream women in his widow friends Rosi and Doro, single parent Margitta wants to take a few days' vacation from her pubescent children. As if fate wanted to play a trick on the happy pilgrims, the journey to Italy is interrupted again and again by mishaps and other complications. As if that weren't enough, Benno especially offends Gundula with his gruff manner. But as much as he gets on her nerves, she is strangely drawn to him. She also finally finds out why Benno hides his feelings behind a protective wall of anger and sarcasm. Sometimes fate leads one to happiness in a roundabout way. This is the experience of the heroine of the cryptic love comedy "Pilgrimage to Padua". The godly geriatric nurse goes to Italy to pray for her daughter--and unexpectedly meets a man herself who gives her life a new impetus. Gisela Schneeberger plays this woman with an inimitable mixture of spirited determination and kind hearted sensitivity. In Herbert Knaup as the grumpy bus driver she finds the perfect counterpart--and together the two form a wonderfully unequal dream couple. Also on pilgrimage: Bernhard Schütz, Petra Kleinert, and Sybille J. Schedwill.

And where, Tobias, Eva's new flame, is also bound. Instead of bringing granny to her senses, Eva ends up turning her own life upside down. Johannes or Tobias? Security or excitement? - It's been six months since his beloved wife died, and Kurt Tobaben (Günther Maria Halmer) still can't get over the loss. The wealthy glove manufacturer from Hamburg neglects his company, hides in his villa and mourns the past. Only a trip to Travemünde changes the mind of the desperate widower: in a hotel bar he meets Luzy Ditten (Teresa Weißbach), who works there as a waitress and immediately casts a spell over him with her open, understanding nature. From then on, he meets the much younger woman more often; soon a tender rapprochement develops between Luzy, the lively blonde with a penchant for the color pink, and Kurt, caught in his suffering, a solid entrepreneur in mature manhood. When he decides to engage her as a "personal partner" and take her to Hamburg, those around him feel alienated. There is whispering in social circles, while Kurt's relatives, especially daughter Karin (Floriane Daniel), are extremely critical of the new woman at his father's side. In general, family cohesion is not the best: the work at the municipal art foundation is getting on Karin's nerves, and when she wants to organize an exhibition for artist friend Ruth Brede (Ingeborg Westphal), the sponsors jump out of her - not exactly the best Timing for family conflicts. Meanwhile, Kurt's son Kai (Ole Tillmann) is plagued by his conscience: for years he didn't tell his father, who supported him financially, that he had chosen a career as a chef instead of taking over the company. When the cards are finally laid on the table, things don't go as planned, and everyone involved is forced to make their own choices for a happier future. The title could not have been chosen better: A "fresh wind" often blows through this sensitively developed story, in which the motif of returning to life after a dramatic beginning slowly develops into a cheerful, melancholic, hopeful description of personal new beginnings. In the sensitive staging by director Imogen Kimmel, the characters gain increasing depth, revealing their strengths and weaknesses in a comprehensible way, which is not least due to the cast: Günther Maria Halmer embodies the grieving widower, who is also a proud patriarch, in his inimitably level-headed manner and wants to be a romantic beau, Teresa Weißbach knows how to convince Luzy as a life-affirming muse. Floriane Daniel also shines in strong supporting roles as the overwhelmed daughter Karin and the incomparable Ingeborg Westphal, whose artist Ruth, chapped by fate, exudes her very own magic.
