- 30-year-old Max works as an emergency doctor in a Berlin hospital. He has been in love with the attractive Coco for a long time, with whom he shares a well-kept apartment. Coco jealously defends the relationship, while Max feels restricted in his freedom. One day Max dials the wrong number and falls in love with a voice on the other end of the phone that says only one word: "Hello". On nightly forays through the city, Max looks for the woman who owns the voice and hopes to escape the close proximity of Coco. In a billiard salon he finally meets Marie, who is accompanied by her partner Kurt. Shortly afterwards, Marie and Max are involved in a car accident that causes them to hug each other and make love in the rain on the street. When Max and Coco later have a party, Marie and Kurt are guests at the door. As a result, Max and Marie try to couple their respective partners together.
- Eva, an upper-class housewife, frustratingly leaves her arrogant husband and decides to enter the call girl business. She lets Yvonne, a prostitute, teach her the basics and both set out for prey together, until Eva starts an affair with Chris, who turns out to be a call boy, as well. Consequently, she moves into his penthouse, large enough for both to offer their services separately.
- While out on the town in Berlin, Raymond sees and falls for Harlis, a star of a troupe of lesbian cabaret strippers. Attracted to a man for the first time, Harlis leaves her long time girlfriend and dance partner. Overwhelmed by jealousy and anger, his brother (Peter) and his ex-fiancee (Ria) are determined to sabotage this budding romance.
- Leo, the owner of the stocking product "Discrete", has driven his company into the wall. The company is virtually bankrupt.
- Malou feels that the difficulties she is experiencing in her relationships lie in her past and so she searches out information about her mother. Her mother, a nightclub singer who lived in Germany, France and Argentina, becomes the focus of a series of flashbacks through which we learn of her mother's stormy life and the difficulty she had in bringing her up. These insights enable Malou to sort out the difficulties in her own life.
- "Deutschland privat" is a special project by Robert van Ackeren, who in 1979 asked people to send him their 8mm home movies by placing ads in several magazines in Berlin, Germany. In the ads he announced that he was planning to blow up and mount the best of those movies into a feature documentary to be released in German cinemas. He was surprised how many home movies he received and how generously people allowed him to use them for his feature. Part 1 of "Deutschland privat" gives us typical German home movies of the 1970s, i.e. private holidays, family parties, etc. Part 2 consists of what is now called "amateur porn"; home made 8mm movies featuring real porn action.
- The farm where Hatschipuh (a gnome) and his friends live is about to be sold because the owners are going bankrupt. The gnomes need to help the family and rescue the farm. Live action film with animated gnomes.
