- Three young employees of Spofana Company, Zdenek, his girlfriend Vera Novotná and their friend Vera Matousková were rewarded for excellent work by a vacation in the mountain resort of Tatranská Lomnica. The Prague Transport Company controller Gustav Andel (Jaroslav Marvan) also travels to the same destination as a reward. He does not know yet Vera, future wife of his son Mirek, and has decided to secretly check her behaviour in the absence of her fiancée. By mistake he considers Vera Novotná to be his son's girlfriend, and so his investigations cause him plenty of embarrassments.
- Year 1919. Young country girl Anna (Marie Tomásová) arrives in Prague to serve in a rich family of builder Rubes. She encounters Toník (Josef Bek), a foundry worker in the Kolben-Danek Machinery Works and active member of the social democratic party. He, his friends and her mate Mána (Jana Dítetová) teach Anna how to deal with her employer and about the class struggle.
- The catastrophically dry weather of 1947 causes immense problems in the countryside. In the small village Klícov, only farmers Hánek and Bervida and the old Hromádka have water. The others must queue every day for a drop for themselves and their cattle. All the villagers lament over their previous decision to turn down the cooperative chairman Kouba's proposal to built a new village water-supply system.
- Cooperative members are harvesting crops, trying to get new water piping installed and preparing to plough away the field boundaries in autumn. Local kulak Voznica (Vladimír Repa) doesn't like any of this so he forces sexton Kodýtek (Vlasta Burian) to help him sabotage their efforts.
- Insurer Dolezal, uncompromising in his office, a regular husband and father of twelve-year-old Jirka and little Alice, spends a business trip a night with secretary Vlasta. In the morning, on the way back, accidentally runs over a little boy.
- In the market place tent, the writer Jaroslav Hasek shows four different films. The representatives of the separate stories are part of the public. 1) Vzorná skola mocnárství: The first former Chocholka (Vladimír Pucholt), is frightened by the Latin composition. He runs into the toilet and refuses to leave it despite the insistence of his classmates, teacher and the headmaster. 2) Vzorné rodinné stestí: The first former Honzátko (Václav Postránecký) buys a hamster. The animal settles inside the upholstered couch and doesn't want to come out. The family asks the animal trader Bukl to help. 3) Vzorný mecenás: The industrialist Kauble (Bohus Záhorský) unwillingly becomes the recipient of numerous applications for financial help. 4) Vzorná láska lepsích lidí: The old bachelor Hanzlícek (Josef Kemr) is pursued by his landlady who wants to marry him to her daughter, Anna.
- Biopic on Czech doctor Jan Jansky, who in his research published the classification of the four different blood types, for the first time, in 1907.
- Ladislava Zápotocký is exiled to Zákolany where he works as a tailor. He organizes a local workers' association that, despite prosecution, manages to win election in 1897 for the social democratic party in the voting district.
- Franta Hronek is very dedicated to work and flying. The talented air-plane designer Ruda Kolar is also an excellent pilot, however he is not disciplined and is arrogant with his colleagues. He even starts flirting with the glass cutter Lída, even though he knows that she is Franta's girlfriend. By not servicing the windlass properly, Ruda causes an accident with Franta's glider. Lída, who is the only witness to the accident, doesn't reveal Ruda's guilt. The event shakes Ruda so much that he becomes aware of his faults and changes his attitude toward people and work.
