- Two rich friends, hating the poor, were challenged by their children's love lives. Thus starts the war between love and money.
- Born in a low-caste family of chamars (cobblers), Chandu alias Chandrashekhar (Dev Anand) helps his father repair shoes and other footware for a small pittance. One day a girl from a rich and wealthy family, Vidya (Suraiya) stops by to get her shoe repaired. She wants Chandu to stop doing this menial job, and go to school, study and become someone important. She offers help financially, and gets Chandu to school. Both grow up and are attracted to each other. Both intent to marry, but obstacles open up in the form of Harry alias Harilal (Madan Puri), and Vidya's alcoholic dad, who will not permit his daughter to mingle with a boy from a lower caste.
- Lucknow-based Nawabzada Aslam lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his dad, Bakar, and mom. He writes poems under the pen name of Raj Lakhnavi, and is a close friend of Iqbal. One day he meets and falls in love with Salma Banarsi, a Banaras-based Courtesan. When his parents arrange his marriage with his foreign-returned cousin, Mumtaz, he informs them that he loves Salma and incurs their displeasure so much so that his dad shoots him, and he gets hospitalized. When he recovers fully he is shocked to find that Salma has not only accepted Iqbal as her lover, but has also taken a lot of money and jewelry from his mother. He takes to alcohol in a big way and swears to exact vengeance against Salma by getting married to Mumtaz and forcing Salma to sing and dance at his wedding.
- This movie is about Hindu-Muslim unity in India, but its release year 1947, was unfortunate as that was when the British divided a united India into India and Pakistan, the latter to create a state for the Muslim majority in the provinces of Punjab and East Bengal. As a result, amid Hindu Muslim riots, the movie either flopped or was withdrawn.
- Chaudhry runs a posh hotel in the Indian countryside, but does not do very well due to poor patronage. One day a recently married young couple, Harish and Seema, rent one of the rooms for their honeymoon. That very night Seema is found killed in the bathtub. The Police are summoned but they are unable to get any clues. Harish meets with his friends, Chetan, Vinita, Ajay, Twinkle, Jai, Renuka, Anjali, Raj, and they offer to locate the killer by renting rooms in the hotel as newly married couples. Shortly thereafter Vinita, and then Twinkle gets killed. Then two men, Billa and Ranga are shot dead. Renuka is attacked but manages to survive. No one really knows who killed these people, as no clues were left behind, amidst theories of a killer seeking vengeance; animal poaching; a woman who is possessed by a dead man, and a deadly secret that has returned to haunt the girls' from their questionable past.
