- Widowed Christine Massey works as a freelance writer while raising her seven children in suburban Connecticut.
- When Paul introduces a young stranger to the Massey household, Christine finds herself questioning the boy's motives.
- Christine's family is the subject of a live TV interview show. The invasion of the TV crew into their home and the antics of the seven children lead to complications, including a performance by sons Peter and Paul (Dack and Dirk Rambo).
- Christine arranges a dinner party for Paul, his boss, and the boss' wife. When Mr. Beebe lives up to his reputation as a self-important "blowfish", Christine feels obligated to remain civil for Paul's sake.
- Christina's daughter Binky is running for student council president, but Christina is faced with a dilemma when the father of her main opponent appears the night before to make a plea to ask Binky not to run. It means so much to his daughter because she is a marginalised nonconformist foreign student.
- A young journalist discovers that Christine was famous at an earlier age and wants to make a follow up story about how she lives now. Marnie (18yo) has met the man that she thinks she wants to marry, an older man who is an architect. The family is put into a controversy about him being too old for Marnie. But Marnie is completely in love with him and wants to go away with him Christine wants her to take a second look before she makes the move to get married while facing her own dilemma with the journalist.
- Paul collapses when his stomach ulcer ruptures, and suffers a heart attack during surgery. It is not known if he will have brain damage or recover even partially.
- Christine's daughter Vicki sets out to gain some life experience, hoping it will make her a better writer. The unexpected results make for a worrisome night for both Vicki and her mother.
- Christine is busy with publishing a story at Pauls magazine publishing house. They are both getting interested In each personally as well. But Paul is a bit taken aback when he learns of Christine's seven children.
- A friendly stranger appears at Christine's door, holding the hand of her little girl, Maria. After graciously admitting him into her home, she soon wonders if that was a wise move.
- Christine is forced to choose between the needs of her 13-year-old, lovelorn daughter and those of Paul, the man she loves, when both of them turn to her for help.
- Vicky (15 yo) is having a teenage crisis, wondering if she will ever meet a man who will accept her for her special abilities in writing and speech at school. She is concerned that she is too square, until she takes a trip to Philadelphia for a speech contest and comes back another person. Christine helps her find herself again.
- The twins want to date the same girl and Christina has to bolster one of them up so that they can compete on an equal playing field. Meanwhile Christina's boyfriend Paul feels he is getting nowhere in wanting the children to like him.
