- Based on the mysterious legend of Idilia Dubb. Germany, 19th century, in the Middle Rhine Valley. 17-year-old Idilia (Lea van Acken) wakes up badly injured in the middle of a gloomy castle ruin and can remember nothing. She is horrified to discover that there seems to be no escape for her. Only her diary can help her decipher her past and reveals a secret romance with Caven (Eric Kabongo), an Abyssinian showman who has to work for Idilia's fiancé Franz Hagerberg (André M. Hennicke) at his human zoo exhibition. The young woman's struggle for survival and her slowly returning memory blur reality and fantasy.
- In 1938 Hans Zeisig, an apolitical comedian, impersonator and cabaret actor, flees with a Russian passport (instead of American, which he would have preferred) from Nazi-Berlin, and finds himself in the legendary Hotel Lux, the 'lost paradise' of the Comintern, in Moscow. Everyone believes that Zeisig is a man named Hansen, Hitler's personal astrologer. But Zeisig quickly realizes that he's gone from the frying pan into the fire. In the Hotel Lux he meets his friends Frida and later Meyer again, still passionate communists. For the three idealists an adventure between love and death begins to run its course.
- Hatice is the older of two daughters of Turkish parents living in Germany. And while their father is open minded and has adapted to the Western lifestyle in most regards, he still stands firm on some Turkish traditions. - Berlin, 1932. The Weimar Republic is torn apart in the struggle between right- and left-wing extremists and Berlin is a powder keg. Nightclub singer Henny Dalgow get to know the Social Democratic congressman and Jewish doctor Albert Goldman, and the two become a slightly odd couple. Albert is a sworn pacifist after his experiences in the First World War. Contrary to his beliefs he agrees to act as courier for his brother Edwin, who belongs to a radical communist cell.
