- An early winter morning the daughter gets out of her house. It's still dark outside and dreadfully cold. She goes to her mother's place. The mother is an elderly woman who is spending her days alone at home with her knitting work and a little dog that is already gone. The mother is getting ready for the dog's funeral as if they will be burying a human. She wears a dress, gets a hair-style. The daughter appears in the early morning hour and finds her mother in front of the mirror. That drives her mad. She has to do the nasty work - to clean the dog's place, to get it ready for the funeral and to find something they can dig with. The two women get out of the house with a cardboard box in which they have put the dog. It is a foredoomed undertaking to be digging in this bitter cold weather, especially with a kitchen knife. After a few futile attempts to break the ground, the daughter cuts her finger. The mother becomes panic-stricken. The daughter sends her away to get back home. It is already daylight outside, people are walking around, cars are passing by. The daughter takes the cardboard box and heads towards the dust-bins. She drops the dog in the dust-bin. When she turns back she sees her mother who has just seen what happened. Their eyes meet for the first time. The daughter fells her eyes helplessly before her mother's tender look.
