- Blinded by admiration, Orgon, a property-owning French man, brings the poor and insincere Tartuffe into his home and arranges for his daughter to marry him. Various members of the family attempt to have Tartuffe thrown out.
- A bureaucrat working at his desk decides to take a break during which he opens a present he has given to himself. To his delight, a pair of glowing red shoes appears. He immediately puts them on but there is a bad twist to it: they squeak horribly. The man tries to get back his old shoes but the cleaning lady has unfortunately already thrown them away. The civil servant then makes up his mind to walk to a shoe store to buy a new pair. Wrong pick again.
- In a tavern in Nuremberg, the young poet Hoffmann recounts his three unfortunate love stories to his friend Nicklausse. The Tales of Hoffmann, here in the fairy production of Giancarlo del Monaco, illustrates the Romantic quest of an idealized Love that should be transcended in the research of an artistic absolute. Aquilles Machado embodies brilliantly the main character of this fantastic opera.
