- Every episode features a cruise to a different spectacular location aboard a German luxury liner. There are usually several storylines, mostly of the romantic kind, involving the passengers and sometimes the crew of every cruise. There is always a feel-good factor and usually a happy ending for all.
- So now he has a girlfriend. And what a. In contrast to his big sister Milli, 17-year-old Franz was previously a quiet, shy loner. His parents are all the more impressed when he brings home the pretty, self-confident Zoe one night. Zoe quickly finds her way into the heart of Franz's family. Or is this young woman just telling people what they want to hear because she sees her hidden addictions? After an intoxicating night, Zoe disappeared and Franz's heart was broken. He has to see her again and goes looking for Zoe.
- Since the death of her parents ten years ago, Nell (Pia Micaela Barucki) has always been there for her siblings and has taken over the family locksmith's shop. Now she wants to do something good for herself and catch up on some things. On Lake Garda, she trains to become a paragliding instructor, where she meets flight instructor Lukas (Joshua Grothe), who has his eye on her. Nell is not sure if Lukas is the right one, after all there is the restaurateur Simone (Stefano Bernardin) who is also interested in her.

Tycoon Roederer lured his ever-rivaling sons on the cruise by pretending he's resigning after marrying his trusted secretary, who is to take over daily management, hoping they'll join forces.
- The shipping company plans to dump old staff, notably captain Hansen and engineer Max, now the cruise ship is docked in Dubai due to mechanical trouble they warned for. Crew technician Wolf Riekmann risks his job by visiting his lover, overprotective Holger Philipp's daughter Jesscia, on deck, but can redeem himself by finding the ship bug. Rich gambler passengers's wives resolve to attract their attention by spending more then their stakes, eccentric outfits etc.
- Gerda Müller treats unconvinced granddaughter Nadja to a Hawaii cruise as graduation present, without disclosing it's to meet Gerda's long lost son Bernd, her 'dead' father, who seeks revenge on the man whose false testimony cost him 15 years in jail. It's actually the ship's first engineer Michael Stolze, whom Nadja falls in love with. Michael blamed his mother for dumping his father for Bernd and after her fatal fall, head on a rock, jealously blamed his stepfather Bernd. Captain Hansen gets the men to talk it through and look ahead, with Nadja. New ship boutique concessionary Eva Reimann falls at fist glance leaving the air port for Frank Deubner, whom she finds at the beach and is the cruise ship's executive officer. Passenger Werner Steincke is living proof of her past as call-girl to work off debts, with him as client, whose unwitting 'busiess proposal' enrages Frank, who risks a trial and dismissal after a fist stroke. Workaholic Werner's neglected wife Margit makes him back off by divorce threat. Ingo Büchner finds his teen daughter Jacky a poor choice to stand in for her sick mother with tickets booked, jealously posing as his wife to sabotage potential romance with single Verena Schade. Jacky's own romance with hunky surf instructor Steve suffers his revenge in kind.
- Journalist Helma Matern boarded not for fun but a saucy scoop which celebrated novel author Heinz Schulz managed to keep from his audience: he uses the pseudonym Paula Pattini to publish bestseller romantic novels. Insider Rose Gervinius, his literary agent, duly mistrusts flirtatious Helma Matern, but Heinz ignores her warnings, getting obsessed with Helma. Rolf Hartmann hopes the cruise can patch things up with his wife Regine, who is infertile after three miscarriages. Captain Paulsen's godson Mickey Köhler isn't just a gifted prankster, but gets the Hartmanns to take him along on a local trip, posing as poor orphan, when a lunatic on the run confides 'her' stolen baby to Regine, who wants to keep it as she doesn't make it to the given meeting point, being arrested. In Auckland port, contractor Gerd Götze, who believes all is for sale, his much younger wife Stella and his best friend Benjamin Pohl rent a sailing yacht to explore a nearby island. Captain Paulsen spots their red emergency light and stops the ship to take them aboard, Gerd Götze allegedly having had a cardiac attack, but retired police detective Franz Engel soon smells a rat and helps work out the devious truth, requiring seeing through several false versions.
- Captain Fred Paulsen eagerly heads to the sultanate of Oman, a home of the Arab dow-traders, whose sail ships essentially remain since the fourth century. Guest Thomas Müller and his wife hoped a romantic holiday would enable hem to get fertile, but his parents Dagmar and Herbert, who dream of grandchildren, booked the room next door as a surprise, which constantly sabotages their romance on board and on 'bedouin' excursion, her being a shameless meddler and he expecting help to cover up his cardiac-disastrous cigar-relapse. A brilliant geologist is eager to test his invention to cheaply explore desert land, surprised his ex is his counterpart in negotiations to sell it to an oil corporation, whose ruthless executive even hires local thugs to steal the results. A homewrecker, whose adulterous lover canceled his booking last minute, fearing his sick wife wouldn't survive divorce, turns suicidal, but her pathetic bottled message gets father and son Merbold, on whose retirement island it beached up, to board and preach the value of life.
- Textile shipping firm boss Peer Schmidt boarded under a false name, and is single but shy around women, even two friends who initially plan to seduce him for the single. Anita Hork plots to let her daughter Maria, who didn't even dig a cruise, get to like her charming new lover Martin Schober before coming clean about engagement plans. A weird passenger puzzles and annoys staff with endless jogging and questions about the ship's length. A senior couple boarded to her taste, he carries a book on shipwrecks.

Aging singer-illusionist Eliane Roth, a former opera star, is accompanied by bitterly-nostalgic pianist Hans Plattner. Eliane dreads performing in front of passenger director Pieter van Kraan, who is writing his memoirs, but he resolves to restore her self-image. Werner Hansen unfortunately has to share his cabin with ingrate, boorish eccentric Herrn Gerold, who imposes his will and abuses Gerold's generosity but the gloves are off when both have a crush on passenger Anette.
- The cruiser heads for the South Sea archipelago Samoa from Sydney, Australia. Captain Paulsen learns in confidence that agent Gerd Finke is after master thief Volker Pohl, whose lover-accomplice is aboard, and meets him on an island trip, but gets jealous of his local bar maid, who turns nasty, yet Cupid strikes again. Udo Haas travels with his single-raised teen daughter, who has a hard d-time dealing with a potential stepmother. Doc Horst Schröder and chief hostess Beatrice chaperon culinary ravel guide authors Lydia Collani viz. Guido Weber, irreconcilable rivals finding themselves aboard after the same native cuisine, yet reaching more of an understanding than keeping quiet neither is an actual chef.
- Paul Fellner and his wife Meret repeat their honeymoon after a near-divorce. Reverend Sebastian Manker, who runs a street kids mission, stands in for the regular ship chaplain but has doubts about the luxury aboard. Lawyer Herbert Albrecht is desperate to cure his mystery syndrome with a rare medicine, only available in Shanghai, and mistrusts his wife Helene's ambition, but she arranges to consult her ex Jaques Colli, who is chef aboard. Chief mechanic Heiner Cohrs dares not declare his love to Daniela Ebert and accidentally convinces his beloved the ship doctor is ready to propose. The captain helps unite a crew-mate's Chinese family.
- Udo Kaulbach tells his wife Loni only well at sea that he conspired with ship barber Olbricht, his youth football buddy, to save his near-bankrupt firm by a dodgy deal in illegally smuggled cheap Botwana diamonds during the excursion in the vast Okavango delta nature reserve, where wildlife and Bushmen aren't the only predators. In Capetown, Peter Jahn and his separated ex Claudia Jahn come aboard to Botwana, unaware they each brought the one of their unwitting twin daughters each raises, Friderike and Lara, who soon work out being separated twins and are determined to reunite their parents, who soon see through but come to play along. Captain Paulsen and Beatrice look after the two winners of the shipping company's competition, shy Lothar Meyer who owns a cleaning company and his employee Ramona Wiese, who wasn't supposed to know but nevertheless they mutually grow crushes.
- Captain Paulsen steers the MS Deutschland to mysterious Burma (Myanmar), and warmly welcomes cruise director Beatrice back after her holiday, but she's uneasy finding her resort admirer boarded as passenger, eager to court her further, so she compromises the captain and others by involving them unasked in ploys to avoid her lover, even joining a Buddhist temple retreat. Passenger Hans Berger planned to tell his wife and teen daughter Marie about his illegitimate daughter, who is on the crew, but is mistaken by Marie for an adulterous lover. Marie's jealousy spoils her relationship with the suave ship pianist.
- Daniel Busch, one of cruise director Beatrice's charges, in on board. Before the "MS Deutschland" sails for San Francisco, Daniel witnesses and photographs a suspicious conversation between passenger Cora Steiner and a mystery man. Beatrice doesn't take Daniel seriously, but aboard he meets and teams up with retired insurance official Lothar Lohmann, who soon believes Cora Steiner may have staged her missing husband's alleged death. Sven Nowak booked the cruise with his secretary-lover Mandy Bischof, but finds his wife Rita in his cabin, so his close colleague Raffael Bär, who happens also to be aboard, is asked to take Mandy in, who hoped Sven would divorce for her, and gets charmed by Raffael. Captain Paulsen is hell-bent to take skeptic doctor Schröder along on a youth-rekindling ride around San Francisco but his old motorcycle wasn't taken aboard and not waiting for the rental one's papers proves problematic.

- Commissioner Lucas Kramer booked his first vacation after workaholic streak wrecked his marriage, but can't resist finding it why a passenger hides any detail about her life and ends up helping her with his detective skills. Ship photographer Klaus Vogler believes to recognize a female passenger from her honeymoon, is rebuked for meddling after her denial, but discovers the reason for the resemblance, which enriches two lives.

Passenger Mangold asked chief steward Victor to keep kids away from him, yet Mrs. Lipke's impish daughter Ulrike can't be daunted and resolves to 'unfreeze the weird man'.
- International concert pianist Hendrik Vandervoort interrupted his career to spend his dying preteen son Kai's last days on a dream cruise to Disneyland, with a flask at the ready to try making the best of the worst. Max Bomberg refuses to propose to his true love Julia Kirsch for fear of an immature, doomed marriage like his parents', but a lonely singing star's sad story makes him reconsider. Greek kitchen-boy Nikos's stowaway piglet is discovered, yet his touching intentions made to come true during the New year's Eve party.

Frustrated that ship shop clerk Rose turned him down, the ship baker gets drunk in Puerto Rico's capital San Juan port and wakes up aboard with a street mutt which followed him, against the rules, so he dumps at back on land, but an influential passenger orders the captain to retrieve it.
- Seasoned 'retired' master thief Walter Buchner teaches his naively eager nephew Sven the ropes of society high life and jewel theft, but the knave is more interested in their wine waitress and the suspicious captain proves a competent researcher. A father shows his son where his late mother died and overcomes his related diving phobia. The cruise's hired singer Patrick Lindner is fake, or not him at all.
