- The festival is a non-competitive showcase for the world short film production is the leading event for the short format in Latin America. (from the festival's web site, 1998)
- In 2001 a competitive section for internet films ("e-films") has been started and since 2002 several affiliative awards have been introduced. Audience favorites are also voted for, but form a top ten list with no specific winner.
