- DirectorSergio MartinoStarsGeorge HiltonEdwige FenechConchita AiroldiAn ambassador's wife discovers that one of the men in her life - either her husband, an ex-lover or her current lover - may be a vicious serial killer. So stylish and sexy, beautifully filmed, slightly sleazy and such a mysterious plot. And the wonderful Edvige Fenech in one of her better roles.
- DirectorDario ArgentoStarsDavid HemmingsDaria NicolodiGabriele LaviaA jazz pianist and a wisecracking journalist are pulled into a complex web of mystery after the former witnesses the brutal murder of a psychic.Dario Argento at his best: camera work, music, locations, style, everything hypnotically beautiful and scary at the same time. Still, the movie has also scenes which can make you laugh. And some of the greatest murder scenes ever filmed...
- DirectorEmilio MiragliaStarsBarbara BouchetUgo PagliaiMarina MalfattiTwo sisters inherit their family castle, which is said to be haunted by their ancestor, a dark-haired, red-robed woman who is said to take seven lives every hundred years. This one is a bit obscure and less known than others, nevertheless it's a paragon for the genre with its style and music. It's not as sultry as the majority of gialli though.
- DirectorMassimo DallamanoStarsGiovanna RalliClaudio CassinelliMario AdorfPolice investigate apparent suicide of teen girl and uncover details of a teenage prostitution racket. They go on the hunt for a motorcycle riding killer."La Polizia chiede aiuto" is half giallo and half poliziesco, and it's a prime example for both genres. The soundtrack is also great, coming with one of the best themes ever. Variations of which were also used in quite a lot of other Italian genre classics by the way.
- DirectorPupi AvatiStarsLino CapolicchioFrancesca MarcianoGianni CavinaStefano, a young restorer, is commissioned to save a controversial mural located in the church of a small, isolated village.Oh, I love this one, it's pretty sleazy but still very well-made and really creepy. Furthermore, it has very beautiful yet eerie landscape scenes and stylish camera work.
- DirectorSergio MartinoStarsClaudio CassinelliMel FerrerLia TanziWhile investigating the brutal murder of a young prostitute, a detective uncovers a sex-trafficking ring with connections to powerful people.Just like his masterpiece "La Polizia chiede aiuto", this film by Massimo Dallamano is a mix of the giallo and the poliziesco genre. In fact, it's a mix of even more genres, such as action, political thriller, and comedy. It is one of the most action-packed gialli ever made, and it's much more fast-paced than others.
- DirectorDuccio TessariStarsSenta BergerLuc MerendaUmberto OrsiniAn amnesiac man and his estranged wife restart their romance, only to find themselves hounded by unscrupulous figures from his past life.Duccio Tessari's best film in my opinion. With sensual Senta Berger as the female lead, reminescences of Hitchcock, a twisted plot and a beautiful soundtrack, this flick has everything a great giallo needs.
- DirectorDario ArgentoStarsAnthony FranciosaGiuliano GemmaJohn SaxonAn American novelist visiting Rome to promote his latest book is stalked and harassed by an obsessed fan who is committing a string of murders that appear to be tributes to his work.Typical Argento movie. And this one's truly intense and as dark as it gets. Despite that it's got some easy-going moments, too, these never spoil the tension for some reason - which is quite distinctive of the giallo genre.
- DirectorDario ArgentoStarsTony MusanteSuzy KendallEnrico Maria SalernoAn American expatriate in Rome attempts to unmask a serial killer he witnessed in the act of an attempted murder - and is now hunting him and his girlfriend. This is Argento's first work as a director and it's already a masterpiece of suspense and mystery. Also this is one of my personal favorites.
- DirectorLucio FulciStarsFlorinda BolkanStanley BakerJean SorelThe potentially unhinged daughter of a British politician is accused of killing her hedonistic neighbor after she witnesses the murder in a dream.Just gave this one a re-watch and now I think this is indeed Fulci's best giallo. It's got a great mysterious plot, beautiful music and mesmerizing psychedelic scenes with just a little bit of gore.
- DirectorDario ArgentoStarsCristina MarsillachIan CharlesonUrbano BarberiniA young opera singer is stalked by a deranged fan bent on killing the people associated with her to claim her for himself.Another full-scale Argento giallo, beautiful scenery in that theater, beautifully filmed, and a beautiful lead.
- DirectorLucio FulciStarsJennifer O'NeillGabriele FerzettiMarc PorelA clairvoyant woman discovers a skeleton in a wall in her husband's house, and seeks to find the truth about what happened to the victim. In my opinion, this is Fulci's second best Giallo.
- DirectorDario ArgentoStarsJames FranciscusKarl MaldenCatherine SpaakTwo journalists try to solve a series of murders connected to a pharmaceutical company's secret experiments, becoming targets of the killer themselves.Probably my second favorite film out of Argento's "Animal Trilogy". Reminds me of "Rear Window" and the "Miss Marple" stories to a certain extent. Maybe the most pleasing film that Argento ever directed...but it's got its harsh scenes, too!
- DirectorMario BavaStarsCameron MitchellEva BartokThomas ReinerA masked, shadowy killer brutally murders the models of a scandalous fashion house in Rome. This is definitely Bava's best giallo, plus it is the first film ever officially considered a giallo. I'm not Bava's biggest fan, but I have to admit that this one is great.
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsMichael CaineAngie DickinsonNancy AllenA mysterious blonde woman kills one of a psychiatrist's patients, and then goes after the high-class call girl who witnessed the murder."Dressed to Kill" is no official giallo, having almost no relation to Italy whatsoever (except for one Italian actress), still it references to some gialli, including "A Lizard in a Woman's Skin". And with its erotic moments, its slight touch of sleaze, and of course the style and the way the killer dresses, it leaves no doubt about its rightfully earned affiliation to the giallo genre.
- DirectorSergio MartinoStarsGeorge HiltonEdwige FenechIvan RassimovA woman recovering from a car accident in which she lost her unborn child finds herself pursued by a coven of devil worshipers. This is a satanic acid trip of a movie. With its hypnotic music and images, it is scary in a psychedelic way.
- DirectorSergio MartinoStarsGeorge HiltonAnita StrindbergAlberto de MendozaAn insurance investigator tries to determine any irregularities in the policy of a heiress' dead husband, but soon finds himself suspected of her murder.Just another tasteful giallo from Sergio Martino. Stylish, mysterious, a great theme, and the plot is a real brain twister.
- DirectorFrancesco BarilliStarsMimsy FarmerMaurizio BonugliaMario ScacciaSylvia, an industrial scientist, is troubled by strange hallucinations related to the tragic suicide of her mother.A stylish giallo with some horror elements and a flabbergasting ending.
- DirectorSergio MartinoStarsSuzy KendallTina AumontLuc MerendaA string of appalling lust murders shocks the University of Perugia as a sadistic serial killer strangles to death beautiful college girls with a red and black scarf.Another great Martino, already featuring many ingredients of what will later be called the slasher movie.
- DirectorGiuliano CarnimeoStarsEdwige FenechGeorge HiltonPaola QuattriniHaving recently escaped the clutches of a hippie sex cult, a beautiful model is pursued by a serial killer whose previous victims include former occupants of her new apartment.Just included this one for its totally lovable theme, and to round up the number of films listed. It's by no means a bad film though, still one of the greatest gialli.
