The Armada is waiting for the attack on England and Thorpe surprises them with attacks on their galleons where he shows his skills on the sword. The Best adventure film ever made, Flynn's best. - DirectorJames AlgarSamuel ArmstrongFord Beebe Jr.StarsLeopold StokowskiDeems TaylorThe Philadelphia OrchestraA series of eight famous pieces of classical music, conducted by Leopold Stokowski and interpreted in animation by Walt Disney's team of artists.Walt Disney's masterpiece. - DirectorMerian C. CooperGunther von FritschErnest B. SchoedsackStarsLowell ThomasKathy DarlynToni ValkOn the evening of September 30, 1952, the shape and sound of movies changed forever with the introduction of Cinerama.I had the privilege of seeing this projection system here in Bogotá way back in 1964. There has never been anything like it EVER. The "you are there" sensation has not been equalled by other systems such as CinemaScope or similar. Unfortunately, only a handful of theatres worldwide show the original Cinerama movies. It should be resurrected.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsAnthony PerkinsJanet LeighVera MilesA Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother.Hitchcock finest!! The balance mixture of art, suspense, and the typical Hitchcock way of carrying the audience where he wants to!!
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartKim NovakBarbara Bel GeddesA former San Francisco police detective juggles wrestling with his personal demons and becoming obsessed with the hauntingly beautiful woman he has been hired to trail, who may be deeply disturbed.Another Hitchcock film like no other. - DirectorKen AnnakinStarsStuart WhitmanSarah MilesJames FoxHoping to push Britain to the forefront of aviation, a London publisher organizes an international air race across the English Channel, but must contend with two entrants vying for his daughter, as well as national rivalries and cheating.Such a short title (!) for one of the funniest movies ever made. The international situations and typical British atmosphere is really very, very entertaining.
- DirectorGeorge CukorStarsAudrey HepburnRex HarrisonStanley HollowayIn 1910s London, snobbish phonetics professor Henry Higgins agrees to a wager that he can make crude flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, presentable in high society.Typical American musical with a British argument and filmed so beautifully and with such a good taste that one wants to watch it over and over again. My daughter Paloma's (21) favourite film.
- DirectorSergei EisensteinStarsAleksandr AntonovVladimir BarskiyGrigoriy AleksandrovIn the midst of the Russian Revolution of 1905, the crew of the battleship Potemkin mutiny against the brutal, tyrannical regime of the vessel's officers. The resulting street demonstration in Odessa brings on a police massacre.Considered by many as the finest movie ever made. It was way ahead of its time and watching it today really carries you to such historical situations that are really impacting. The Odessa stairs scene really impacts me every time I watch it.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.The best science fiction ever made. - DirectorStanley KramerStarsSpencer TracyMilton BerleEthel MermanA group of motorists witnesses a car crash in the California desert, and after the driver's dying words indicate the location of a hidden stash of loot, they turn against each in a race across the state to get to it.They just don't make them as they used to!! Perhaps a worn sentence but it is true. You can laugh for hours. The more you see it, the more you laugh and enjoy it. I have the LaserDisc version which to my knowledge is the only version with long lost scenes restored.
- DirectorWaris HusseinStarsMark LesterTracy HydeJack WildTwo youngsters declare to their parents that they want to get married as soon as possible.Melody is a very touching, simple picture that shows the situations of a couple of pre-teenagers in a British school. Beautiful music by the BeeGees and very well written and filmed. Fantastic Script.
- DirectorDavid LeanStarsOmar SharifJulie ChristieGeraldine ChaplinThe life of a Russian physician and poet who, although married to another, falls in love with a political activist's wife and experiences hardship during World War I and then the October Revolution.Directed by one of the finest directors of all times: David Lean. This last big picture made my MGM is a masterpiece. Not easy to adapt Nobel prize winner Boris Pasternak's novel, but skilfully done by Robert Bolt. And music score, well one of the finest!!
- DirectorRoger DonaldsonStarsMel GibsonAnthony HopkinsLaurence OlivierFed up with their Captain's harsh discipline, a sailing ship's crew decides to take action. The best film of the famous mutiny of 1789. Actors Hopkins and Gibson were not as famous as they are today. Also included in the cast is Liam Neeson. Beautifully filmed and very close to the original Bounty story. Fantastic music by Vangelis.
- DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodEli WallachLee Van CleefA bounty hunting scam joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in gold buried in a remote cemetery. No doubt the best "western" ever made. I have the restored version with added scenes.
- DirectorIngmar BergmanStarsUlrik ColdJosef KöstlingerIrma UrrilaThe story of the prince Tamino and his zestful sidekick Papageno, who are sent on a mission to save a beautiful princess from the clutches of evil.Being a Bergman fan, I find this movie adaptation of Mozart's last opera really wonderful. Has the typical Bergman style and has scenes like the studying of different races when the movie starts, which are really out of the ordinary.
- DirectorLuchino ViscontiStarsDirk BogardeRomolo ValliMark BurnsWhile recovering in Venice, sickly composer Gustav von Aschenbach becomes dangerously fixated with teenager Tadzio.Impacting adaptation of Thomas Mann's novel with impacting acting by Borgarde and Andressen. It shows Maestro Luchino Visconti's obsession for perfection in movie making and with music by Mahler this picture is really like no other.

His obsessive interest in the home rises from a secret that may require driving his wife insane.George Cukor's Victorian film is really wonderful. Very well written and acted by Bergman, Cotten and Boyer. Its darkness helps to make it more mysterious. Well deserved Oscar to Ingrid Bergman.
- DirectorStanley DonenGene KellyStarsGene KellyDonald O'ConnorDebbie ReynoldsA silent film star falls for a chorus girl just as he and his delusionally jealous screen partner are trying to make the difficult transition to talking pictures in 1920s Hollywood. The best musical ever made. No doubt. Just watch it several times. No need to add additional comment. The film speaks for itself
- DirectorPeter R. HuntStarsGeorge LazenbyDiana RiggTelly SavalasBritish agent James Bond goes undercover to pursue the villainous Ernst Stavro Blofeld, who is planning to hold the world to ransom.Only one Bond movie here although I should have placed at least the Connery and Moore movies here. However, I find this 1969 movie the best of the series.
- DirectorLeo McCareyStarsCharles LaughtonMary BolandCharles RugglesAn English valet brought to the American west assimilates into the American way of life. This movie is so refreshing and so funny that deserves watching over and over again. Scenes like "I can just be pushed fur no further!!" or "Never take the pot to the kettle, always take the kettle to the pot" or is it the other way round? are really very, very funny.
