80's Movies I've Seen In Theaters As A Child
Born in 1979, I had the chance to watch in theaters some great movie classics of the 80s era, as well as some cheesy ones. They marked forever the memories of my childhood. Here are all of them, with comments related to my particular story as a kid to each one (excuse some bad english, please):

- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsMichael J. FoxChristopher LloydLea ThompsonMarty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown. My top 1 favourite movie. This movie is perfect in many aspects: the story, the cast, the music, pacing. A true classic, marked not only my childhood, but my life forever! At the time, it helped me a lot to forget the recent 'cocoon' trauma (see below)!
Rewatched on a movie theater on 2015 - DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHenry ThomasDrew BarrymorePeter CoyoteA troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape from Earth and return to his home planet.Yes, this was the first movie I've ever seen in a theater in my life. The funny thing is: I don't remember much, but I clearly remember that, when the character ET appeared on screen for the first time, I started to cry loud and asked my parents to 'turn it off' thinking that was like a television! They had to take me outside the theater!
7 years after this episode, I finally watched it on a TV screening. A beatiful movie, great music... but everytime ET showed up, I had the chills! - DirectorTim BurtonStarsMichael KeatonJack NicholsonKim BasingerThe Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker.I watched this on a monday night! And I rememeber seing acidentally the last scene of the previous screening just because I entered early on the theater with my father, so I basically knew the ending before watching for the first time! It was my (only) favourite Batman movie for years.
- DirectorJ. Lee ThompsonStarsRichard ChamberlainSharon StoneHerbert LomFortune hunter Allan Quatermain teams up with a resourceful woman to help her find her missing father lost in the wilds of 1900s Africa while being pursued by hostile tribes and a rival German explorer. Can't deny, at the time I've seen it, I liked this. Lots of nice action, silly humor and cool adventure. I watched recently and the obvious similarities were clear with the Indiana Jones movies.
- DirectorRon HowardStarsDon AmecheWilford BrimleyHume CronynWhen a group of trespassing seniors swim in a pool containing alien cocoons, they find themselves energized with youthful vigor. After the ET trauma, I thought I was over that. But I was so wrong! When I first saw the white gloomy ETs of this movie, I started to cry badly, but this time I 'faced my fears' and watched the entire movie on the theater. Not a bad movie for sure, but I confess I had trouble sleeping that night. This weird ETs trauma was gone with the time but, to this day, I never watched this movie again (and really don't want to!)
- DirectorGiuseppe TornatoreStarsPhilippe NoiretEnzo CannavaleAntonella AttiliA filmmaker recalls his childhood when falling in love with the pictures at the cinema of his home village and forms a deep friendship with the cinema's projectionist. This was the first movie that I had to hold my tears on a movie theater. Beautiful story and unforgettable soundtrack. Another one that I never watched again entirely.
- DirectorGary GoddardStarsDolph LundgrenFrank LangellaMeg FosterThe heroic warrior He-Man battles against the evil lord Skeletor and his armies of darkness for control of Castle Grayskull.Being a regular follower of the cartoon, I confess this movie felt odd because of the many differences with that other He-Man I used to watch on TV. But as I kid, I enjoyed the movie anyway, don't bothering much with all that cheesy acting/effects.
- DirectorMauricio de SousaStarsRonaldo BatistaMarli BortolettoAngélica SantosThis was probably the second movie I've seen in a movie theater in my life. At the time, I was scared with the M. Jackson's videoclip Thriller that was screened on TV few days before. My parents worked hard to convince a 4 year old that there were no ETs or werewolves in this movie and it was just a cartoon. I don't remember much and never had the oportunity to see it again.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordSean ConneryAlison DoodyIn 1938, after his father goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones finds himself up against the Nazis again to stop them from obtaining its powers.Amazing movie, I still remember that sunday evening. It was the only Indy movie I saw on a movie theater and still my favourite after all these years. They don't do classic adventure films enjoyable like this anymore!
- DirectorPeter MacDonaldStarsSylvester StalloneRichard CrennaMarc de JongeRambo mounts a one-man mission to rescue his friend Colonel Trautman from the clutches of the formidable invading Soviet forces in Afghanistan.Yes, I was underage when I watched this, but I dealt nicely with all that violence. The movie has lots of action and was entertaining watching it, I can't deny.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsEd HarrisMary Elizabeth MastrantonioMichael BiehnA civilian diving team is enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine and faces danger while encountering an alien aquatic species.Amazing movie, impressive effects at the time! But, again, my ETs trauma returned near the ending! But it was the last time that happened, thankfully. I watched it many times since, it's probably the most underrated movie of Mr. Cameron. I just wished the ending was a bit different.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsMichael J. FoxChristopher LloydLea ThompsonAfter visiting 2015, Marty McFly must repeat his visit to 1955 to prevent disastrous changes to 1985...without interfering with his first trip.I was anxious the watch this, and liked a lot. Flying delorean? Hoverboard? Revisiting 1955? Cool all the way! Not as good as the first, but still very enjoyable. The ending was a surprise...I wasn't aware that a third movie will come! And the following six months wait lasted forever!
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsChristopher ReeveRichard PryorMargot KidderSynthetic kryptonite laced with tar splits Superman in two: good Clark Kent and bad Man of Steel.Another movie that I don't remember much. Only years after, on a TV screening, I had the chance to see how bad it really was compared to the first and second ones!
- DirectorMichael RitchieStarsEddie MurphyJ.L. ReateCharles DanceA private detective specializing in missing children is charged with the task of finding a special child whom dark forces want to eliminate.Funny and entertaining, I liked a lot. At that time, Eddie Murphy acted in some nice movies!
- DirectorWolfgang PetersenStarsNoah HathawayBarret OliverTami StronachA troubled boy dives into a wondrous fantasy world through the pages of a mysterious book.At the time, this movie impressed me! Great soundtrack, a fantastic journey on a magic world. As a 5 year kid, these ingredients worked very well for me. I watched again entirely, 21 years later. Didn't liked as much, but still a classic in my childhood memories.
- DirectorDedé SantanaStarsRenato AragãoDedé SantanaMussumThe Bunglers do a show for the benefit of an orphanage run by Sister Maria that is facing financial difficulties. While performing the show, money is stolen. Didi, and Sister Maria Dede pursue the bandits while Mussum Zechariah and the others with the show. The three go to Beto Carrero World, where the scene is recreated from the old Western North America. The film also features a series of 20-minute Bunglers cartoons.Quite nice for what it was: nothing special, but not atrocious either.
- DirectorTed BermanRichard RichStarsGrant BardsleyFreddie JonesSusan SheridanA young boy and a group of misfit friends embark on a quest to find a dark magic item of ultimate power before a diabolical tyrant can.I watched this only once. I remember liking it, but don't remember much of the movie itself. I've never had the chance to watch it again! Maybe someday...
- DirectorJean-Jacques AnnaudStarsTchéky KaryoBart the BearYouk the BearAn orphan bear cub hooks up with an adult male as they try to dodge human hunters.Beautiful story, at the time I was surprised by very different kind of movie narrative and style of film making.
- DirectorBob ClarkStarsPeter BillingsleyMelinda DillonDarren McGavinIn the 1940s, a young boy named Ralphie Parker attempts to convince his parents, teacher, and Santa Claus that a Red Ryder Range 200 Shot BB gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.I don't remember much of this, but one thing I do remember: I didn't like it at all! And never wanted to watch again! Maybe is not that bad...
- DirectorCarlos MangaStarsRenato AragãoLuiza BrunetOlder CazarréThe team of Galinheiro Futebol Clube, formed by emeritus fighters, has as technical Cardea, advised by three direct assistants: Elvis, former player as Cardinal and aspiring singer; Fumê, cook of Independência Futebol Clube, great team in which Cardeal also works as a wardrobe; and Lupine, samba and composer.

Later, when they begin to work in a circus, they discover that the child is in fact the daughter of the trapeze artist and that she was forced to surrender her daughter to a gang that negotiates children abroad.
