- DirectorLukas MarxtThe Salton Sea at the edge of the Imperial Valley was used by the US military for bomb tests in the 1940s; in the fifties and sixties it was opened up to tourists and reinvented as the Californian Riviera. Fertilizer run-off from the nearby farms caused the lake's ecosystem to begin collapsing in the 1970s. Since then all the facilities and towns located on its shores have become entirely derelict. The lake's continuing desiccation and the resulting release of toxic particulate matter puts the Salton Sea at risk of becoming one of the biggest health hazards in US history.13 april, 12:45u, Cinecitta Tilburg. Workers who operate the drilling machines must stay awake. The fight is tortuous, against the machine and against themselves. Meanwhile, coal miners are busy filling trucks with coals. Wearing a coal-dust mask, they become ghostlike creatures. An endless line of trucks will transport all the coals and iron ores to the iron works. There traps another crowd of souls, being baked in hell. In the hospital, time hangs heavy on miners' hands. After decades of breathing coal dust, death is just around the corner. - DirectorMark NoonanKevin Roche: The Quiet Architect is a feature documentary film that considers many of the key architectural questions through the 70 year career of Pritzker Prize winning Irish-American architect Kevin Roche, including the relationship between architects and the public they serve. Still working at age 94, Kevin Roche is an enigma, a man with no interest in fame who refuses retirement and continually looks to the future regardless of age. Roche's architectural philosophy is that 'the responsibility of the modern architect is to create a community for a modern society' and has emphasised the importance for peoples well-being to bring nature into the buildings they inhabit. We consider the application of this philosophy in acclaimed buildings such as the Ford Foundation, Oakland Museum and at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art for whom Kevin Roche was their principal architect for over 40 years.13 april, 19:30u, Cinecitta Tilburg, met lezing door Pieter Bedaux, Bedaux de Brouwer Architecten.
- DirectorMarc Wolfensberger"Oil Rocks" - behind the enigmatic name lies the first and largest offshore oil-platform ever built, a vast city in the middle of the Caspian Sea, built by Stalin in 1949. 60 years on, "Oil Rocks" is still operational and the first western film crew ever receives access. Just imagine: 200 kilometers of bridges, thousands of oil workers, hundreds of platforms, up to nine-story buildings, a park and sports field, nothing less then an oil-rig Atlantis, only real. Combining archive footage from the Soviet era and the exclusive new footage, the film tells the story of this timeless place and it's inhabitants.13 april, 19:30u, Cinecitta Tilburg, met inleiding door Wies Sanders, stedenbouwkundige en initiatiefnemer van Cinema Culinair en Secret Cinema.

- DirectorAnders EklundStarsEmil AnderssonDavid BergströmBiayna BogosianCan games change the world? With cities everywhere struggling to cope with the population growth that increased urbanisation brings, can video games be harnessed to help the residents, especially young people, take part in planning, and fixing their own cities. Today public spaces and entire cities are being designed, planned and played through the medium of games. The result of this "civic gamification" is that city architecture and urban planning is being democratized. Cities have become the ground zero for digital innovation and the debate about how our cities evolve has suddenly gone viral. We follow three game companies navigating the space where urban planning and gaming meet. Lydia Winters at the game developer Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, Paradox Interactive and the game Cities: Skylines and José Sanches and his indie game Block'hood. How will our cities look in 20-100 years time?12 april, 14:15u, Cinecitta Tilburg, educatief programma voor studenten van MA+U, TU/e en BUAS.
