- DirectorKathryn BigelowStarsJessica ChastainJoel EdgertonChris PrattA chronicle of the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden after the September 2001 attacks, and his death at the hands of the Navy S.E.A.L.s Team 6 in May 2011.About the multi-year intelligence actions leading up to the death of Osama bin-Laden in Pakistan. Though it won 2012 Oscars for Best Picture and Best Sound Editing, and was nominated for Best Actress, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Screenplay, I found it too focussed on torture for my taste.
- DirectorCharles VidorJohn HustonStarsRock HudsonJennifer JonesVittorio De SicaAn English nurse and an American ambulance driver on the Italian front during World War 1 fall in love, but the horrors surrounding them challenge their romance to the limit.I was too bored watching this on wide screen TV in 2014 that I deleted it half-way through. A 32 year old Elaine Stitch plays Helen, the rule-breaking hip nurse.
- DirectorShirley MacLaineStarsAlex D. LinzShirley MacLaineGary SiniseBruno is a unique young boy genius, whose expression of his own individuality leads his family and community along an emotional journey.Something not right with the dialogue. Too many silences. Too much left unexplained. The only character developed is the main one, the spelling prodigy who desires dressing like women more than getting along with his class mates, nuns, father and grandmother. Why does his friend lie about her parents and why the cap guns? Bruno says he is wearing angel clothes not women’s, but outfits don’t bear that out.
Cast includes Gwen Verdon, Lainie Kazan, Gary Sinise, Kathy Bates, and Shirley MacLaine, who also directed. - DirectorAlbert HughesAllen HughesStarsDenzel WashingtonMila KunisRay StevensonA drifter fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity's salvation.Really just another Western only post-apocalyptic and with Christian miracles. Bible miracle gets “Eli” (Denzel) to the Golden Gate Bridge where he narrates the Christian Bible from memory to scribes who then print it. Rest of movie is like a western with bad guys trying to stop him and he is practically invincible with all sorts of weapons. In addition to machete, pistols, and sawed off shotgun he has a long bow and arrows. Goofs include the bow and arrows somehow unseen in his pack. Also, after he is belly shot he tapes a bandage outside his shirt. and after being left on the ground in one scene we later find him continuing his walk to the west. Miraculously his voices guide him to the hideout of the good guys. The Mila Kunitz character straps on the machete and begins to walk back to her home.
- DirectorTerry ZwigoffStarsMax MinghellaSophia MylesJohn MalkovichStarting from childhood attempts at illustration, the protagonist pursues his true obsession to art school. But as he learns how the art world really works, he finds that he must adapt his vision to the reality that confronts him.Malkovitch has legit role as art professor and plays it as a character he’s done before. Angelica Huston is basically a cameo part. She’s very good, but why are so many of the roles she’s been getting be small roles in minor films? Story is about a talented nerd in the modern world where realism is not appreciated. He ends up borrowing a serial murderer’s paintings of his victims. His art is in demand after he’s indicted for the murders. The movie works but I just didn’t enjoy it.
- DirectorWally PfisterStarsJohnny DeppRebecca HallMorgan FreemanA scientist's drive for artificial intelligence takes on dangerous implications when his own consciousness is uploaded into one such program.Artificial Intelligence taken to absurd levels of nanoparticles in the ground floating up to repair or build people and devices, controlled from a single central intelligence.
- DirectorAlejandro AgrestiStarsKeanu ReevesSandra BullockChristopher PlummerA lonely doctor who once occupied an unusual lakeside house begins to exchange love letters with its former resident, a frustrated architect. They must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it's too late.Total romance fantasy. Women probably liked it. Horrible as for as science fiction goes because all the time travel stuff is just ignored.
