- DirectorDirk Wayne SummersStarsRaymond BurrHugh DownsMaurice StrongEarth's environmental crisis--brought about by uncontrolled technological progress--is endangering life on a global scale. At the core of the threats to the planet - wars, overpopulation, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources - is the inadequacy of the nation state to come to terms with the surmounting problems of twentieth century living. What is urgently needed is the kind of international cooperation where nation states relinquish part of their sovereignty to a world body entrusted with the management of mankind's future.

- DirectorPeter BrownStarsPaul WatsonRay Willes"They have thrown four bombs at this vessel. Do you understand? Four bombs... Hurry up!' A number of frantic international reporters on board the Sea Shepherd desperately call on the US authorities to take action before it's too late. For Paul Watson it's retaliation for the sinking of two Norwegian whaling ships the year before. "I understand you are going to fire on our ship", he says calmly amid the chaos. After mines are thrown and cannons fired, a gigantic steel vessel rams straight into its bow in the hope of finally sinking his ship. UN resolutions clearly state that if national agencies do not enforce a regulation set forth then individuals or groups are invited to do so. "We are vigilantes but that's only because the US government, the Canadian government don't seem to have the courage to go out there and uphold these treaties and laws themselves", he insists. Relying on public relations and global scrutiny, Paul Watson and his eclectic international crew - 'ranging from a teenage dropout to a marine biologist' - continue a lifelong mission to do what he believes is the neglected job of the world's navies. "The time for talk is over".

- DirectorMike SearleWhen you talk of Brazil's wildlife you tend to think of the Amazon rain forest. But few people realise there is, or was once another forest just a big and just as bio diverse. The Atlantic rain forest. It stretch for more than 1000 miles along the Atlantic coast and inland to the eastern boarders of Brazil. Today there is less then 2% of the amazing forest and the wildlife that used to exist there is albut gone. Those species that remain are fighting for survival, teetering on the edge of extinction. Species like the Golden Lion tamarin, the Wooley Spider Monkey, and many many more. In this episode of Before It's Too Late we look at the many Mini Monkeys of Brazil who are fighting for survival. Unfortunatley history is about to repeat itself. Because we have failed to learn from our mistakes of the past. Because what happened to the Atlantic forest is happening to the Amazon. We meet the people in the south of the country who are battling to save the Golden Lion tamarin, and the Wooley Spider monkey. We see wonderful vision of the animals in the wild. But many of the tamarins weren't born in the wild they were born in zoos around the world and shipped back to re populate the forest. We see them being taught how to survive in the wild. We also discover that there is no more room left for them. The remaining forest fragments are now full. We also meet the people in the Amazon who are trying to stop the destruction of the rain forest there. We see the beautiful pied faced tamarins and many other species of mini monkeys including species that have only just been discovered and aren't even named yet. Aimed at a family audience.

- StarsJeny CardThe struggle to preserve California's remaining old-growth forests is as remarkable as the trees themselves. Maxxam Inc., based in Houston, USA, is transforming forested slopes into profit through clearcutting, causing erosion and flooding that disrupt the lives of residents in lower-lying communities. The logging of ancient redwoods and the removal of activists who protect them raise questions about how far a corporation can go in destroying our shared cultural and natural heritage.

- 20041h 18mNot Rated7.4 (1K)DirectorGregory GreeneStarsBarrie ZwickerJames Howard KunstlerPeter CalthorpeThe modern suburbs have ultimately become an unsustainable way of living. They were originally developed in an era of cheap oil, when the automobile became the center of the way people lived and an era when people wanted to escape the inner city to a more pastoral or rural way of life. However the suburbs quickly evolved into a merely a place to live that had neither the benefits of rural or urban life, and where one was reliant on an automobile both to travel elsewhere and even travel within the neighborhood. The suburbs are not only dependent upon cheap energy, but also reliable energy. The reliability of energy is becoming less so as demonstrated by the multi-day blackout of the North American Eastern Seaboard starting on August 14, 2003. Part of the problem of getting out of the suburban mentality is that a generation has grown up believing it to be a normal way of life, and a life of entitlement, which they will not give up without a fight. But many developers and planners and some of the general public understand the want and need to make the way the collective we live in a more walkable and humanistic manner.

The documentary analyzes the development of several global events starting at the beginning of the century (mainly after the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001) from the perspective of oil and oil regions. - DirectorHannu HyvönenStarsPekka AikioTimo HelleHeikki HyvänenThe conflict between forestry and nature conservation in Finland has been constant during last 20 years. The traditional, freely grazing reindeer herding, dependent of the old forest growth , has been losing its resources but complaint and protests haven't been able to stop this process. In 2005 Saami reindeer herders made an alliance with Greenpeace and established a Forest Rescue Station in the wilderness of Inari. The international pressure from Greenpeace made Finnish forest company Stora Enso stop buying the wood from conflict areas. Kalevi Paadar, a Saami reindeer herder, lodged a complaint to the UN Human Rights Commission. He claimed that logging in his home village violated their right to continue their traditional way of reindeer herding based on free grazing. The UN asked Finland to stop logging. In 2007 Metsähallitus started logging again, this time in the wilderness of Kessi.

- DirectorBill KirkosStarsLee AddlemanRay AndersonKathy AngererTrashed is a provocative investigation of one of the fastest growing industries in North America. The garbage business. The film examines a fundamental element of modern American culture...the disposal of what our society defines as "waste." It is an issue influenced by every American, most of whom never consider the consequences. Nor, it seems, the implications to our biosphere. At times humorous, but deeply poignant, Trashed examines the American waste stream fast approaching a half billion tons annually. What are the effects all this waste will have on already strained natural resources? Why is so much of it produced? While every American creates almost 5 pounds of it every day, who is affected most? And who wants America to make more? The causes and effects of the seemingly innocuous act of "taking out the garbage" are analyzed while showcasing the individuals, activists, corporate and advocacy groups working to affect change and reform the current model.
