- DirectorTobe HooperStarsMarilyn BurnsEdwin NealAllen DanzigerFive friends head out to rural Texas to visit the grave of a grandfather. On the way they stumble across what appears to be a deserted house, only to discover something sinister within. Something armed with a chainsaw. The original, the classic, one of the most disturbing movies ever made. It’s viscerally terrifying and atmospheric with added bonuses of great acting, and the novelty of seeing Leatherface for the first time. No matter how many sequels it gets, this will remain unmatched. It’s one of the best horror films ever made.
- DirectorMarcus NispelStarsJessica BielJonathan TuckerAndrew BryniarskiAfter picking up a traumatized young hitchhiker, five friends find themselves stalked and hunted by a deformed chainsaw-wielding loon and his family of equally psychopathic killers.A gorgeously shot remake that thankfully doesn't follow in the original's footsteps. It tells its own story while keeping things dark, gloomy, and thrilling, as they should be.
- DirectorTobe HooperStarsDennis HopperCaroline WilliamsJim SiedowA radio host is victimized by the cannibal family as a former Texas marshal hunts them. It’s nice that they went in a different direction for the sequel, and Dennis Hopper having a chainsaw duel with Leatherface was great. But it’s tonally inconsistent and a clear step down from the original.
- DirectorDavid Blue GarciaStarsSarah YarkinElsie FisherMark BurnhamAfter 48 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town. It’s trashy and tasteless, but it’s also a lot of fun.
- DirectorJonathan LiebesmanStarsJordana BrewsterMatt BomerDiora BairdBefore being sent to serve in Vietnam, two brothers and their girlfriends take one last road trip, but when they get into an accident, a terrifying experience will take them to a secluded house of horrors, with a chainsaw-wielding killer. All shock and no scares, but it has a few good laughs and R. Lee Ermey is always a delight.
- DirectorAlexandre BustilloJulien MauryStarsStephen DorffLili TaylorSam StrikeA teenage Leatherface escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnapping a young nurse and taking her on a road trip from hell, while being pursued by a lawman out for revenge. This origin story is actually a refreshing, different take on the material. Sadly, the movie falls apart in its contrived final act.
- DirectorJohn LuessenhopStarsAlexandra DaddarioTania RaymondeScott EastwoodA young woman travels to Texas to collect an inheritance. Little does she know that an encounter with a chainsaw-wielding killer is part of the reward. It’s more funny than it is scary. As pure schlock entertainment, there’s plenty of fun to be had here.
- DirectorJeff BurrStarsKate HodgeKen ForeeR.A. MihailoffA California couple and a survivalist encounter Leatherface and his family.Dull and forgettable more than anything.
- DirectorKim HenkelStarsRenée ZellwegerMatthew McConaugheyRobert JacksA group of teenagers get into a car crash in the Texas woods on prom night, and then wander into an old farmhouse that is home to Leatherface (Robert Jacks) and his insane family of cannibalistic psychopaths.Matthew McConaughey saves this movie from being completely unwatchable.
