IMDbPro caught up with Tamara Bass to hear about lessons learned since directing her first film, the best advice she's gotten from mentors, and more! 3 of 6
IMDbPro: Do you have any mentors? How did you meet them and what have they taught you?
Tamara Bass: Yes, I have several mentors for different facets of my career. Tanya Hamilton taught me to trust my voice and that not every story has to have a happy ending. Another is Pete Chatmon, who also happens to be one of my best friends. He is my human film school. I go to him for a bunch of technical questions and advice on navigating the business side of the business. Lastly, a newer mentor is Yaneley Arty. She is teaching me how to work within a system. As an actor, we move one way. As an independent filmmaker, we move another way. Yaneley is showing me how to stick to my vision, but also adhere to parameters that are set up.
