- DirectorBenny SafdieJosh SafdieStarsAdam SandlerJulia FoxIdina MenzelWith his debts mounting and angry collectors closing in, a fast-talking New York City jeweler risks everything in hope of staying afloat and alive.Fantastic film, very loud, kinetic, and tense from beginning to end. Didn't care for the ending too much, but this will definitely be a buy on blu-ray.
- DirectorAntoine FuquaStarsGerard ButlerAaron EckhartMorgan FreemanSecret Service agent Mike Banning finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack and works with national security to rescue the President from his kidnappers.Rewatch. Pretty entertaining, if mildly depressing, action film. I might review this and change my score to a 7. Loved the raw, intense action, but the film did feel pretty cheesy at times. Overall tho, a real fun action film.
- DirectorJake KasdanStarsDwayne JohnsonJack BlackKevin HartIn Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to rescue one of their own, the players will have to brave parts unknown from arid deserts to snowy mountains, to escape the world's most dangerous game.I thought this movie was funny at parts, but unfortunately my mom and I both thought it was kind of boring. It's okay, but I prefer the previous Jumanji movie much more.
- DirectorNicolas PesceStarsTara WestwoodJunko BaileyDavid Lawrence BrownA house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death.Honestly, not a half bad film. Some of the dialogue and editing were cringy, but a few jump scares legitimately scared me, and the atmosphere was creepy too.
- DirectorWilliam EubankStarsKristen StewartVincent CasselMamoudou AthieA crew of oceanic researchers working for a deep sea drilling company try to get to safety after a mysterious earthquake devastates their deepwater research and drilling facility located at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.A fun time for the most part, but I found the dark atmosphere and shaky camera to really be a detriment to the film, as half the time I couldn't tell what was happening.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsDean-Charles ChapmanGeorge MacKayDaniel MaysApril 6th, 1917. As an infantry battalion assembles to wage war deep in enemy territory, two soldiers are assigned to race against time and deliver a message that will stop 1,600 men from walking straight into a deadly trap.Technically, an incredible film, shot to look like it was all done in only one take. There are a handful of intense, emotional scenes that were riveting to watch in a theatre, but overall I didn't enjoy this movie as much as I thought I would.
- CreatorMike FlanaganStarsMichiel HuismanCarla GuginoHenry ThomasFlashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.The first 7 episodes were some of the best TV I've ever watching. After that, and especially in the finale, the show started to lost momentum and dissolve into an ending that I personally did not find satisfying, but overall I adore this show and can't wait to share it with others.
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsMatthew McConaugheyCharlie HunnamMichelle DockeryAn American expat tries to sell off his highly profitable marijuana empire in London, triggering plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him.Loved this movie! Such a fun time, hilarious in parts and super intense in others. Can't wait to see it again.
- DirectorFloria SigismondiStarsMackenzie DavisFinn WolfhardBrooklynn PrinceA young governess is hired to look after an orphaned girl, but the return of the girl's problematic brother uncovers secrets from their past. A modern take on Henry James' novella "The Turn of the Screw."Honestly, a snooze fest, which is a shame because I loved the trailer. The movie looks great in the beginning, but then turns into a plotless, plodding mess.
- DirectorReed MoranoStarsBlake LivelyRichard BrakeElly CurtisA woman seeks revenge against those who orchestrated a plane crash that killed her family.Ehh, it was okay. The acting was good, and the direction was okay, but the plot was borderline incomprehensible. I probably won't watch this one again.
- DirectorOz PerkinsStarsSophia LillisSamuel LeakeyAlice KrigeA long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside, a young girl leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.Visually, this movie is gorgeous, and Sophia Lillis is great as usual, but at 87 minutes this movie feels much longer than it is. It's light on plot and full of dream sequences, and because of that nothing really happens. I'll probably give this a re-watch at home though once it released on Blu-Ray.
- DirectorCathy YanStarsMargot RobbieRosie PerezMary Elizabeth WinsteadAfter splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroines Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.Such a fun movie! Loud music, bright explosions of neon colour, loads of action, and it's just a good time from beginning to end. Can't wait to see it again.
- DirectorJeff WadlowStarsMichael PeñaMaggie QLucy HaleWhen the owner and operator of a luxurious island invites a collection of guests to live out their most elaborate fantasies in relative seclusion, chaos quickly descends. On entertainment value alone I'd recommend this movie. It's full of hot women (and men if you're into that), intriguing concepts, and enough thrills to fit in Disneyland. Yeah, it's nonsensical and ridiculous, but what do you expect? Go have fun.
- DirectorBenny SafdieJosh SafdieStarsRobert PattinsonBenny SafdieJennifer Jason LeighAfter a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Connie Nikas embarks on a twisted odyssey through New York City's underworld to get his brother Nick out of jail. What a crazy film. It's unpredictable, to say the least. I thought the first 22 minutes were the best part, but it doesn't stop ever being thrilling. I enjoyed it, but perhaps not as much as others seem to be.
- DirectorChris HenchyStarsPaula AbdulJoe GattoJames MurrayThe story of a humiliating high school mishap from 1992 that sends the Impractical Jokers on the road competing in hidden-camera challenges for the chance to turn back the clock and redeem three of the four Jokers.Absolutely hilarious! I had reservations going in because I didn't know how the show would translate to the scree, but I shouldn't have worried. I was in tears from laughing at multiple points, and I can't wait to watch this again.
- DirectorJeff FowlerStarsBen SchwartzJames MarsdenJim CarreyAfter discovering a small, blue, fast hedgehog, a small-town police officer must help him defeat an evil genius who wants to do experiments on him. This is a kids movie through and through. The children in the audience were loving it, and there's really not much else to say. Jim Carrey was fun, Sonic was adorable, and the special effects were cool. You can watch this and have a good time.
- DirectorSeverin FialaVeronika FranzStarsRiley KeoughJaeden MartellLia McHughA soon-to-be stepmom is snowed in with her fiancé's two children at a remote holiday village. Just as relations begin to thaw between the trio, some strange and frightening events take place.LOVED this movie so much. Fantastic slow burn, dripping with dread and unease, and made me legitimately uncomfortable and afraid. As the character's felt like they were going crazy, so did I. Incredible film.
- DirectorLeigh WhannellStarsElisabeth MossOliver Jackson-CohenHarriet DyerWhen Cecilia's abusive ex takes his own life and leaves her his fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of coincidences turn lethal, Cecilia works to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.Actually a good movie, which surprised me. Pretty exciting with an extremely thrilling 3rd act. Definitely going to be buying this one.
- DirectorGavin O'ConnorStarsBen AffleckAl MadrigalJanina GavankarJack Cunningham was a high school basketball phenom who walked away from the game, forfeiting his future. Years later, when he reluctantly accepts a coaching job at his alma mater, he may get one last shot at redemption.I really enjoyed this movie, but mostly because I really love Ben Affleck. This is more of a character study than a sports movie, and it goes in some interesting, and inspiring, directions.
- CreatorJonathan EntwistleChristy HallStarsSophia LillisWyatt OleffSofia BryantSydney is a teenage girl navigating the trials and tribulations of high school while dealing with the complexities of her family, her budding sexuality, and mysterious superpowers just beginning to awaken deep within her.Absolutely loved this show and I hope there's a season 2. It's so sweet, funny, and watchable, and if you like the game Life Is Strange, this will give you major LiS vibes.
- DirectorDave WilsonStarsVin DieselEiza GonzálezSam HeughanRay Garrison, a slain soldier, is re-animated with superpowers. You know, this wasn't that bad. It's a simple, generic action movie. It's entertaining for what it is, and if you like action films I see no reason why you wouldn't like this.
- DirectorPeter BergStarsMark WahlbergLauren CohanIko UwaisA small team of elite American intelligence officers, part of a top-secret tactical command unit, try to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of Indonesia.Ehh, this was okay. The plot itself was good enough, and the ending was really good, but the action was filled to the brim with so much quick cuts and shaky cam that it was incredibly hard to tell what was happening, which detracted from my enjoyment of the film.
- DirectorMatthew RossStarsMichael ShannonImogen PootsCarlos Moreno Jr.A psychosexual noir love story, set in Las Vegas and Paris, about love, obsession, sex, betrayal, revenge and, ultimately, the search for redemption.Actually a pretty good film. Intense when it needs to be and romantic when appropriate, this is a film to purely to watch because of the acting of the two leads. Wasn't a big fan of the open ending, but overall a good flick.
- DirectorNicole HolofcenerStarsBen MendelsohnNatalie GoldThomas MannAfter leaving his wife and his job to find happiness, Anders befriends a drug-addicted teen, sending him down a path of reckless and shameful behavior.I enjoyed this one, if only because Ben Mendelsohn was in it. And chances are if you watch it, you're watching it for him. This is more of a slice of life type film, and it's good for what it is, elevated by Ben's performance.
- DirectorNora FingscheidtStarsHelena ZengelAlbrecht SchuchGabriela Maria Schmeide9-year-old Benni is a toss-up between institutions that cannot tackle her outbursts. She wants to move in with her mother, but she can not handle her wild daughter. After Micha is hired Benni slowly opens up and attaches herself to him.Incredible, absolutely emotional film about a 9 year old girl with a history of PTSD and her social worker's quest to find her a permanent living facility. This movie is just heartbreaking, and you really want to see the main character find love and something stable. The ending wasn't the greatest, and this movie does require a stomach of steel to watch because of it's intense subject matter, but if you can pull through, I guarantee you'll find it rewarding viewing
- DirectorLuke GreenfieldStarsJake JohnsonDamon Wayans Jr.Rob RiggleTwo struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party and become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted "heroes" get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.Ehh. I mean, this movie is okay. The directing is lackluster, the editing is mediocre, the cinematography is direct-to-DVD quality, but the movie isn't awful. It's not hilarious, but it's entertaining enough that I didn't hate my time with it.
- DirectorAutumn de WildeStarsAnya Taylor-JoyJohnny FlynnMia GothIn 1800s England, a well meaning but selfish young woman meddles in the love lives of her friends.Such a lovely, gorgeous film. Anya Taylor-Joy is incredible to watch on screen, beautiful and expressive. It's a fun little movie with sweet romance in it, and if you love period pieces you have to give this a shot. This is one I'll be buying for sure.
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsEwan McGregorLiam NeesonNatalie PortmanTwo Jedi escape a hostile blockade to find allies and come across a young boy who may bring balance to the Force, but the long dormant Sith resurface to claim their original glory.Ehhhhhhhh. This used to be my favorite Star Wars movie as a kid, most likely because it's full of special effects. Watching it as an adult, I recognize that it's also full of boring dialogue and a bunch of plodding scenes. This wasn't an awful movie, but it was extremely mediocre.
- DirectorMakoto ShinkaiStarsMiyu IrinoKana HanazawaFumi HiranoOn a rainy morning in Tokyo, 15-year-old Takao, an aspiring shoemaker, decides to skip class to sketch designs in a beautiful garden. This is where he meets Yukari, a beautiful yet mysterious woman. They strike an unlikely friendship.Such a beautiful movie, both in terms of plot, and in terms of visuals. This is a very short film (about 45 minutes) but it's packed with emotion. I can imagine that I'll be watching this movie numerous times. With lovely romance and stunning visuals, if you love animated films, you can't miss this.
- DirectorHarmony KorineStarsVanessa HudgensSelena GomezAshley BensonFour college girls hold up a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation. While partying, drinking, and taking drugs, they are arrested, only to be bailed out by a drug and arms dealer. The first two times I watched this movie I did not like it, but I decided to rewatch it, probably because I'm bored out of my mind in quarantine, and I actually really liked it. Harmony Korine knows how to make something as innocuous as spring break look absolutely disgusting, and he keeps upping the ante in terms of just what's going to happen next. Every actor is fantastic, and there are so many good scenes. I really enjoyed this.
- DirectorDaniel EspinosaStarsDenzel WashingtonRyan ReynoldsRobert PatrickA young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.I wanted to see this really bad when I was in high school, but I just got around to watching it now, 8 years after release. Honestly, it was okay. The best part is the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Denzel, and they elevate the movie to a degree that it would not have been if they weren't in it. The action is okay, but particularly shaky, which makes it hard to keep track of and focus on, but again, the stars of this show kept my consistently engaged throughout.
- DirectorPeter BergStarsMark WahlbergTaylor KitschEmile HirschMarcus Luttrell and his team set out on a mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, in late June 2005. Marcus and his team are left to fight for their lives in one of the most valiant efforts of modern warfare. This was an intense and suspenseful film, but it was really emotional. I don't think this is a great movie by any means, but it thrilled me and made me sad, so I can't say it's a bad movie. For what it is, it's serviceable.
- DirectorMartin BrestStarsRobert De NiroCharles GrodinYaphet KottoA bounty hunter pursues a former Mafia accountant who is also being chased by a rival bounty hunter, the F.B.I., and his old mob boss after jumping bail. This was a pretty enjoyable one. It's nothing fantastic, but for a silly buddy-cop movie, you could do a lot worse. The quick wit is entertaining, and the movie moved at a fast pace with enough comedy and heart to keep me invested. I didn't think this was a great movie, but I'm glad I watched it.
- DirectorBarry SonnenfeldStarsTim AllenRene RussoStanley TucciThe lives of several Miami denizens, from ad agents to gunrunners to street thugs to law enforcement to school-children, intersect with humorous and dangerous results. This was a star-studded surprise. This is a short, breezy little film, filled with enough quips and slapstick goofiness to please even the most jaded. It's by no means a masterpiece, and I wouldn't even say it's one of my favorite comedies, but it's silly enough that I enjoyed it for what it was.
- DirectorRic Roman WaughStarsGerard ButlerFrederick SchmidtDanny HustonMike Banning is framed for the attempted assassination of the President and must evade his own agency and the FBI as he tries to uncover the real threat.I'm a fan of goofy action films, and especially the "Has Fallen" series, so I was looking forward to this one. It's okay. It takes itself more seriously than "London," but it's less action-oriented. It's basically like "The Fugitive," just with the f-word every few seconds. For what it is though, I enjoyed it, and if it is the final of the trilogy, it's a fitting send off.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJamie FoxxChristoph WaltzLeonardo DiCaprioWith the help of a German bounty-hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner in Mississippi. This is my second viewing of this film. I enjoyed it, for the most part. The dialogue was incredible, and Christoph Waltz and Leo DiCaprio give truly Oscar-worthy performances. But the over the top and cartoonish violence was not enjoyable for me personally. Other than that tho, so much of this movie is truly great.
- DirectorSam HargraveStarsChris HemsworthBryon LerumRyder LerumTyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary, embarks on the most deadly extraction of his career when he's enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.Really great action film. Chris Hemsworth is a complete badass in this, and the action is hardcore, violent, and brutal, just the way it should be. Plus, the directing and cinematography was top notch, with zero shaky camera in sight. Also, I absolutely loved the setting of this movie. This is a definite recommend.
- CreatorMark FrostDavid LynchStarsKyle MacLachlanMichael OntkeanMädchen AmickAn idiosyncratic FBI agent investigates the murder of a young woman in the even more idiosyncratic town of Twin Peaks. This was a fantastic show, and I can't wait to watch the return. At times horrifying, at times funny and charming, and at times utterly romantic, this is one of the best series I've ever seen. The mystery of who killed Laura Palmer is enthralling, the answers are riveting, and the journey along the way is consistently episode. Sure, there were a few mediocre episodes in Season 2, but they were only a handful out of dozens of incredible ones.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsSheryl LeeRay WiseMädchen AmickLaura Palmer's harrowing final days are chronicled one year after the murder of Teresa Banks, a resident of Twin Peaks' neighboring town.Absolutely incredible film. This movie was one of the most emotionally resonant movies I've ever seen, with almost every scene invoking a sense of sadness, melancholy, depression, shock, etc. Honestly, this movie is so good that it almost rivals the original show, but the reason it is so good is because of the original show, so it's a slight paradox. Loved seeing a movie dedicated entirely to Laura Palmer.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsChris IsaakKiefer SutherlandC.H. EvansTwin Peaks before Twin Peaks (1990) and at the same time not always and entirely in the same place as Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992). A feature film which presents deleted scenes from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) assembled together for the first time in an untold portion of the story's prequel.Deleted scenes from "Fire Walk with Me." Pretty good, as it's always entertaining to watch Twin Peaks characters in action, but not my favorite. There were some pretty incredible scenes in here that, if added to the movie, would've just enhanced the experience even more, but as a whole I can see why most of these scenes were cut.
- DirectorWilliam Brent BellStarsFernanda AndradeSimon QuartermanEvan HelmuthIn Italy, a woman becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms during her mission to discover what happened to her mother, who allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism.Ehhhhh. I wanted to watch this movie since high school, which is when it originally came out for me. Exorcism movies tend to scare me, so I finally decided to give this one a rent in spite of the poor reviews. But honestly, this movie isn't that good. I liked the found footage style and found the concept interesting, but not much happens in this movie, and when things finally do start to pick up, it's not very scary. I didn't hate the ending like other reviews, I just found this movie pretty boring, which is the worst sin a horror movie can commit.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHugh JackmanScarlett JohanssonAfter a tragic accident, two stage magicians in 1890s London engage in a battle to create the ultimate illusion while sacrificing everything they have to outwit each other.Fantastic film. Very interesting and twisty story, and incredible acting throughout. I've wanted to watch this because I heard so many good things about it, and I'm glad I did. This is a savoury movie that requires full attention throughout, and is consistently riveting to watch. I'd recommend this to anyone.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsJake GyllenhaalJamie FoxxLucas BlackA psychological study of Marine's state of mind during the Gulf War. Told through the eyes of a U.S. Marine sniper who struggles to cope with boredom, a sense of isolation, and other issues back home. What a movie. This is definitely one of my favorite military films, if not my favorite. It has hardly any action, focusing more on the mental deterioration and boredom that the soldiers are feeling, and it's riveting from beginning to end.
- CreatorMark FrostDavid LynchStarsKyle MacLachlanSheryl LeeMichael HorsePicks up 25 years after the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town are stunned when their homecoming queen is murdered.Incredible. This show has so much to unpack and so much to think about, full of moments I'll never forget. I'm considering giving this show a rewatch very soon because it hasn't left my head since its conclusion. I hope there is another season, but if not, I have definitely cherished every moment along all three seasons.
- DirectorNicolai FuglsigStarsChris HemsworthMichael ShannonMichael Peña12 Strong tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11; under the leadership of a new captain, the team must work with an Afghan warlord to take down the Taliban.Honestly, super boring. I wanted to fall asleep so badly. Zero comradery between characters, and zero reason to care about anyone. Horrendously filmed and incomprehensible action with terrible CGI blood. I didn't hate this movie, but I never want to watch it again.
- DirectorNicolas RoegStarsJulie ChristieDonald SutherlandHilary MasonA married couple grieving the recent death of their young daughter are in Venice when they encounter two elderly sisters, one of whom is psychic and brings a warning from beyond. This was an entertaining film, for the most part. It was a bit slow, but then again it is an older film, and I very much enjoyed the classic feel, along with the incredible editing. The film was not particularly scary, but it was interesting, and visually beautiful. Not sure I'll watch it again, tho.
- DirectorJean-Jacques AnnaudStarsJude LawEd HarrisJoseph FiennesA Russian and a German sniper play a game of cat-and-mouse during the Battle of Stalingrad. This movie had some great moments, and as truly great at times, but overall it had some just flat out bizarre moment, such as a weird love scene surrounded buy dirty, fat, sleeping soldiers. I did think the film dropped off during it's second half a bit, but overall I liked it.
- StarsNatsuki HanaeRisa TanedaAyane SakuraA piano prodigy who lost his ability to play after suffering a traumatic event in his childhood is forced back into the spotlight by an eccentric girl with a secret of her own.Absolutely amazing. I'm not the biggest anime fan, but I decided to give this a watch because I'm a sucker for romance. Little did I know that I'd be getting one of the most emotional viewing experiences of my life. This is a gorgeously animated and beautifully emotionally resonant anime that I would recommend to anyone. I'll never forget my time with it.
- DirectorAdam McKayStarsWill FerrellMark WahlbergDerek JeterTwo mismatched New York City detectives seize an opportunity to step up like the city's top cops, whom they idolize, only things don't quite go as planned.Pretty giggly, I chuckled a lot throughout. Very entertaining, could've been a bit shorter, but the running gags throughout were hilarious.
- DirectorBaran bo OdarStarsJamie FoxxMichelle MonaghanDermot MulroneyA cop with a connection to the criminal underworld scours a nightclub in search of his kidnapped son. This was an incredible action thriller. I was engaged and on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Jamie Foxx was so good in this movie and brought all the intensity that you want and expect from this type of film. I highly recommend this one.
- DirectorSteven SoderberghStarsGina CaranoEwan McGregorMichael FassbenderA black ops super soldier seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission.Okay movie. A bit hard to follow and tonally uneven (especially with the music), but the fight scenes were badass. Unfortunately, they did lack emotional involvement, in part because the film was told out of order, so I'd almost recommend simply watching the fight scenes online instead.
- DirectorCraig ZobelStarsBetty GilpinHilary SwankIke BarinholtzTwelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don't know where they are, or how they got there. They don't know they've been chosen - for a very specific purpose - The Hunt. This movie was a complete blast from beginning to end. Gory, funny, entertaining, and you get a badass heroine protagonist, to boot. I would highly recommend this one and I can't wait to watch it again.
- DirectorDan KraussStarsNat WolffAlexander SkarsgårdAdam LongA young American soldier in Afghanistan is disturbed by his commanding officer's behavior and is faced with a moral dilemma.Ehh. Horrible action, pretty bad editing, really cringy acting at times, and the plot, while based on a true story, was executed horrendously. That said, I had a blast with the first 30 minutes of the movie.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKaren AllenPaul FreemanIn 1936, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis can obtain its awesome powers. What an incredible ride. This movie is straight up action adventure fun for 2 hours. I haven't seen this in years and I'm already excited to watch it again. Absolutely loved it. Fantastic action, really great music and editing, and amazing acting throughout. Just a fun movie, and a classic.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKate CapshawKe Huy QuanIn 1935, Indiana Jones is tasked by Indian villagers with reclaiming a rock stolen from them by a secret cult beneath the catacombs of an ancient palace.Honestly, I think I enjoyed this one even more than "Raiders." "Temple of Doom" has a darker tone, a breakneck pace, and almost non-stop action from beginning to end. It's incredibly exciting and I cant' believe that this is considered the worst of the original trilogy.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordSean ConneryAlison DoodyIn 1938, after his father goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones finds himself up against the Nazis again to stop them from obtaining its powers. While this movie is great, I think it may be my least favorite of the original trilogy. With less straight up action than "Temple" but more adventure themed shenanigans than "Raiders," "Last Crusade" is determined to be a straight up family-friendly adventure film, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's very light and breezy, and it's hard to not be entertained throughout, especially by the charismatic performances of Ford and Connery.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsJohn KrasinskiPablo SchreiberJames Badge DaleDuring an attack on a U.S. compound in Libya, a security team struggles to make sense out of the chaos. The movie was good, but the action choreography was a bit hard to follow. However, I assume that was a stylistic choice to mirror the confusion and chaos that the soldiers were experiencing. That said, it didn't make the action scenes engaging to watch, because most of the time I couldn't get a complete grasp of what was happening.
- DirectorDavid MackenzieStarsChris PineStephen DillaneRebecca RobinA true David vs. Goliath story of how the 14th century Scottish 'Outlaw King' Robert the Bruce used cunning and bravery to defeat the much larger and better equipped occupying English army. Not the best medieval movie I've ever seen, but definitely one of the best looking ones. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, and the action scenes are appropriately gory. However, the characterization and story feels rushed. This one would benefit from a much longer runtime.
- DirectorJulien LeclercqStarsSami BouajilaGuillaume GouixYoussef HajdiWork-life balance breaks down for Paris's most gifted armed robbers when a grave mistake forces them to work for a crime boss in a high-stakes heist.Ehhhh, pretty mediocre in every way. The acting was good, but the action scenes were way too short, and there wasn't enough buildup to them. The action scenes just kind of happened and then disappeared as quickly as they arrived. I didn't actively dislike this movie, but I'll never watch it again. It's just bland.
- DirectorYeon Sang-hoStarsGong YooJung Yu-miMa Dong-seokWhile a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea, passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan.Ehh. This movie was okay, but nothing too great, it was light hearted enough to not be scary, but because of that I didn't find it particularly engaging. It wasn't gory enough to be exciting, and it just seemed kind of cheap. I did like some last act shocks, but other than that, I have no interest in watching this again.
- DirectorDavid MichôdStarsTom Glynn-CarneyGábor CzapTom FisherYoung Henry V encounters deceit, war and treachery after becoming King of England in the 15th century, in the aftermath of his brother's death.Honestly, one of the best movies I've watched so far in 2020. I loved practically every single minute of this movie. From the acting to the incredible cinematography and music choices, "The King" is a fantastic film, with a riveting story and great action scenes (the one-on-one armor fight is amazing).
- DirectorDemián RugnaStarsMaximiliano GhioneNorberto GonzaloElvira OnettoWhen strange events occur in a neighborhood in Buenos Aires, a doctor specializing in the paranormal, her colleague, and an ex police officer decide to investigate further. This movie has some pretty creepy scares, and one jump scare in particular was unexpected and seriously effective. The movie had a plot of potential, but ultimately felt half-baked and unfinished.
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsCharlie HunnamAstrid Bergès-FrisbeyJude LawRobbed of his birthright, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy - whether he likes it or not.I honestly love this movie. From the frantic editing to the fast-paced story, you're never bored in this film. Plus, there are some seriously masterful sequences, like when Arthur travels through the words while tripping on venom, or the opening credits sequence. I really enjoy this one.
- DirectorRichard StanleyStarsNicolas CageJoely RichardsonMadeleine ArthurA secluded farm is struck by a strange meteorite which has apocalyptic consequences for the family living there and possibly the world. This movie was okay. I really enjoyed the music, the cinematography and visuals, Nicolas Cage's performance, as well as the representation of a Wiccan character (without it being too weird), but overall it felt like something was missing. The buildup was a little too abrupt from slow to balls-out, and I do think the characters should have been shown recognizing the madness around them more often, but it did have some good, creepy scenes.
- DirectorDerrick BorteStarsRussell CroweCaren PistoriusGabriel BatemanAfter a confrontation with an unstable man at an intersection, a woman becomes the target of his rage. This movie was pretty intense, and a lot less cheesy than it looked from the trailer. First of all, it felt fantastic to be back in a theatre, but secondly, this was just a good movie to watch. Fun, intense, and thrilling.
- DirectorHideaki AnnoKazuya TsurumakiStarsMegumi OgataMegumi HayashibaraYûko MiyamuraConcurrent theatrical ending of the TV series Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995).Never seen the show, didn't understand what was going on, but the incredible acting, animation, and surrealistic visuals, not to mention the amazing editing, made me love this film.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth.Watched this with my mom in preparation for the Snyder cut. While I agree that this movie has some pacing issues and underdeveloped characters, it's a badass action movie, and a visually thrilling Superman movie. This is a great setup for BvS.
- DirectorJohn FawcettStarsEmily PerkinsKatharine IsabelleKris LemcheTwo death-obsessed sisters, outcasts in their suburban neighborhood, must deal with the tragic consequences when one of them is bitten by a deadly werewolf.I absolutely loved this movie! Such an unpredictable, fun, and yet horrifying horror movie. The body-horror elements were disgusting and very effective, and I loved the attitude and mood this movie carried with it. The acting around the board was also good, with the two leads doing a particularly extraordinary job. I can't wait to watch the sequels!
- DirectorFede AlvarezStarsJane LevyShiloh FernandezJessica LucasFive friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. It's a classic. Sure, it's not the best film, but the editing and directing, as well as the ultra violence, make up for it. the acting from everyone except Mia is pretty poor, but again you're not watching the acting, you're watching a geyser of blood for an hour and a half.
- DirectorMarcus NispelStarsJason MomoaRon PerlmanRose McGowanA vengeful barbarian warrior sets off to get his revenge on the evil warlord who attacked his village and murdered his father when he was a boy.A horrific film. Awful, cringy acting. Cheap cinematography. An incomprehensible story. Horribly edited, choppy, quick editing makes action scenes literally nausea inducing. For a movie as action packed as this one is, I can't believe how boring this movie was.
- DirectorDavid MarmorStarsNicole Brydon BloomGiles MattheyTaylor NicholsSarah tries to start anew in LA, but her neighbours are not what they seem.Pretty good movie actually, very suspenseful and thrilling. Can get a bit torture-porny, but other than that this is super entertaining.
- DirectorJosh BooneStarsMaisie WilliamsAnya Taylor-JoyCharlie HeatonFive young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.I really loved this movie. I thought it was a ton of fun, I loved all of the characters, and the romance was really sweet and well-done. The horror elements were genuinely creepy, and I enjoyed the small-scale story. I didn't like the 3rd act entirely too much, but overall I thought this was a total blast.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city. One of the best superhero movies of all time, and my favorite of the Nolan trilogy. A fantastic introduction, and it's more of a drama disguised as a super hero/action film.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice. You know, I was never the biggest fan of this movie, until now. Wow. What an incredible ride. This is a constant adrenaline rush, a constant thrill ride that never lets up. Truly this is one of the best not only super hero films, but also dramas.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane.A fantastic end to the Nolan trilogy. Less action heavy than the rest, but larger in scope and heavy in the drama and characterization. Sure there are some mild plot holes, but by this time you're so invested in the characters and story that you won't really mind. My least favorite of the trilogy, but it's still a fantastic film from beginning to end.
- DirectorBong Joon HoStarsChris EvansJamie BellTilda SwintonIn a future where a failed climate change experiment has killed all life except for the survivors who boarded the Snowpiercer (a train that travels around the globe), a new class system emerges.I thought this movie was pretty good! There was a riveting monologue from Chris Evans, some pretty slick direction, and I really enjoyed the concept, ridiculous as it was. The set design was really enjoyable, and the overall story wasn't engaging enough. The action wasn't the best, but the movie was enjoyable enough that I overlooked it.
- DirectorTodd PhillipsStarsJoaquin PhoenixRobert De NiroZazie BeetzDuring the 1980s, a failed stand-up comedian is driven insane and turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City while becoming an infamous psychopathic crime figure. After watching this movie for the 3rd time, I've come to the conclusion that I don't really like it. It's never boring, and the acting is phenomenal, but nothing really happens in this film; it's like a one hour story stretched out into 2 hours. I don't actively dislike this movie, and I'll definitely watch it in the future, but this is probably one of my least favorite DC films.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsJohn David WashingtonRobert PattinsonElizabeth DebickiArmed with only the word "Tenet," and fighting for the survival of the entire world, CIA operative, The Protagonist, journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a global mission that unfolds beyond real time. What a fantastic spy/action thriller. The acting? Great. The direction? Incredible. The sound design? Euphoric, as you'd expect from a Nolan film. And the action? God damn is it white-knuckle. Sure, things get a bit convoluted toward the end, but it's never horrendously confusing. It may be hard to verbalize the plot, but it still always made sense in a bizarre sort of way. I can't wait to watch this movie with my family so we can experience this together.
- DirectorCharlie KaufmanStarsJesse PlemonsJessie BuckleyToni ColletteFull of misgivings, a young woman travels with her new boyfriend to his parents' secluded farm. Upon arriving, she comes to question everything she thought she knew about him, and herself.I read the book and I was super excited for this. I thought the acting was great, and the initial setup was intriguing, but the twist was pretty lazy, something that we've seen done, and done better, countless of times before.
- DirectorBrett SullivanStarsEmily PerkinsBrendan FletcherKatharine IsabelleGinger's sister Brigitte, now a werewolf herself, must try to find a cure for her blood lust before the next full moon while hiding out in a rehab clinic from a relentless werewolf.Another fantastic entry in the Ginger Snaps trilogy. I love the high school setting of the first film, but the setting of this one is just as good; plus, I love how Brigitte gets a much larger role, which means more time to shine. She was my favorite character of the first film, and I was super excited to see her in this one again. Both this and the first film are disturbing, but yet highly entertaining and enjoyable rides that I would recommend to all horror fans.
- DirectorTodd PhillipsStarsRobert Downey Jr.Zach GalifianakisMichelle MonaghanHigh-strung father-to-be Peter Highman is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay on a road trip in order to make it to his child's birth on time.Pretty fun film! Mildly mean spirited at times but it's sweet at the end, and i laughed more times than I expected. I wanted a goofy, funny movie, and this delivered. Good chemistry, funny dialogue and situations, and it's short. What more can you ask for in a comedy?
- DirectorJeremy GarelickStarsKevin HartJosh GadKaley CuocoTwo weeks shy of his wedding, a socially awkward guy enters into a charade by hiring the owner of a company that provides best men for grooms in need.Pretty fun film! I thought the concept was pretty clever. And while there were a few outrageous moments that broke my suspension of disbelief (the film was better when it was more restrained), overall I thought this was another good, warmhearted comedy that I definitely will watch again one day.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.Wow. What an intense, emotional, thrilling experience. This is truly one of the most entertaining and white-knuckle movies ever. And the outstanding acting elevates this movie all the more. Couple that with amazing action sequences and incredible visuals, you've got yourself a practically perfect film.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsMatthew McConaugheyAnne HathawayJessica ChastainWhen Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future, a farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper, is tasked to pilot a spacecraft, along with a team of researchers, to find a new planet for humans.I really like this movie. Yes, it is very long, but again, like Inception, the amazing acting and emotionally resonant sequences elevates it above other films. However, I still am not a huge fan of the 3rd act. Other than that tho, I like this movie more every time I watch it.
- DirectorFede AlvarezStarsClaire FoyBeau GadsdonSverrir GudnasonYoung computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.Yeah, this movie kind of sucks. And that pains me to say. I like Fede Alvarez, but this movie reeks of uninspired direction and studio interference. The plot is lazy, the cinematography is for the most part very generic, and there is some truly bad acting in here. Claire Foy does a good job with what she has, but other than that I truly have no desire to watch this movie ever again. If I had to re-rate this movie, I'd probably give it a 3 or 4 out of 10. To put it simply, it's boring.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business.Wow, this movie is riveting. It's constant dialogue, but it's exciting dialogue coupled with intense, claustrophobic direction and a white-knuckle soundtrack. The acting is also incredible from everyone across the board. You don't think a movie about Facebook could be exciting, but The Social Network proved that wrong in spades.
- DirectorJordan PeeleStarsDaniel KaluuyaAllison WilliamsBradley WhitfordA young African-American visits his white girlfriend's parents for the weekend, where his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him eventually reaches a boiling point. What a fantastic thriller! Very tense and suspenseful, and the explosive conclusion feels very well-earned and is extremely exciting. Loved this one!
- DirectorJonathan MilottCary MurnionStarsLulu WilsonKevin JamesJoel McHaleA teenager's weekend at a lake house with her father takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts wreaks havoc on their lives.Pretty entertaining! Lulu Wilson and Kevin James did a really good job. The violence was entertaining, but I really wish they would've sent just a bit further with it. Regardless tho, I enjoyed this.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsDaniel CraigRooney MaraChristopher PlummerJournalist Mikael Blomkvist is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing for 40 years by young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander. This movie is absorbing from beginning to end. The main mystery that holds the film together is extremely interesting to watch unfold, and the intermittent violence is at once both extremely disturbing and riveting to watch. The relationship between Rooney and Daniel was beautiful to watch unfold, and even tho the ending may not be the happiest, the journey to get there is certainly worth watching again and again.
- DirectorWilliam FriedkinStarsEllen BurstynMax von SydowLinda BlairWhen a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life.A classic! More of a drama than a straight up horror film, the best part about this movie is watching Regan go through multiple tests, and watching the doctors try to figure out what is wrong with her, no one wanting to accept that she is actually possessed. The acting, directing, and script are all amazing, and I think I will definitely be watching this movie again closer to Halloween.
- DirectorJeremy SaulnierStarsAnton YelchinImogen PootsAlia ShawkatA punk rock band is forced to fight for survival after witnessing a murder at a neo-Nazi skinhead bar. This movie is extremely suspenseful. The violence is realistic and horrific, and the tension just builds and builds throughout the entire film. The ending was a little ehh, but the entire movie before that is so white-knuckle that it doesn't matter.
- DirectorKatsuhiro ÔtomoStarsMitsuo IwataNozomu SasakiMami KoyamaA secret military project endangers Neo-Tokyo when it turns a biker gang member into a rampaging psychic psychopath who can only be stopped by a teenager, his gang of biker friends and a group of psychics. This movie was okay. I liked some of the visuals, and the action setpieces were great, but I found the story kind of hard to follow. And honestly, the movie overall was just a bit too weird for my taste. I would've preferred a bit more straightforward story, but I guess that's what Chronicle is for.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMarlon BrandoAl PacinoJames CaanThe aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.Amazing. It's been said time and time again, so what more can I say? This movie is an epic, a classic, a story that needs to be seen to be believed. It's sprawling, dramatic, and its ending is something that you'll never forget. This is truly one of my favorite films, and I can't believe I waited so long to finally watch it in its entirety.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsAl PacinoRobert De NiroRobert DuvallThe early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City is portrayed, while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.A fantastic follow up, but I don't think anything can beat the first film. The story continues, but to be honest, it almost feels like a repeat of the first film in terms of the rise and fall aspect of Michael Corleone. That said, the first film and this one must be watched back to back - doing so enhances the experience ten-fold.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsAl PacinoDiane KeatonAndy GarciaFollows Michael Corleone, now in his 60s, as he seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. Not as bad as everyone says, but not nearly as great as the first two. The ending to this film is probably the best of the trilogy - very powerful, but this movie does have some cringy acting, and some unbelievable moments. However, if you're having a Godfather marathon, you gotta watch this one too.
- DirectorMatt PetersChristina SottaStarsRoger CrossRosario DawsonChristopher GorhamA Sequel to Justice League Dark (2017) involving Jack Kirby's New Gods.Pretty okay. Entertaining for what it is, and surprisingly gory. Unpredictable story, but not really my thing.
- DirectorSteven BrillStarsAdam SandlerKevin JamesJulie BowenDespite his devotion to his hometown of Salem (and its Halloween celebration), Hubie Dubois is a figure of mockery for kids and adults alike. But this year, something is going bump in the night, and it's up to Hubie to save Halloween. Not bad to be honest. Nothing laugh out loud funny, and definitely not memorable in any way, but if you have literally nothing else to do, this is a mildly enjoyable way to pass the time.
- DirectorMark WilliamsStarsLiam NeesonKate WalshJai CourtneyWanting to lead an honest life, a notorious bank robber turns himself in, only to be double-crossed by two ruthless FBI agents.Yeah this movie kind of sucked. Awful acting, horrendous action, bad dialogue, mediocre editing, and overall, really boring. I mean, this is a "drama" but you really won't find yourself caring about any dramatic aspects at all. You go to a film like this to watch Liam Neeson kick ass, but you won't find that here, except for two or three poorly edited scenes, I can only imagine to mask bad choreography. You can skip this and miss nothing.
- DirectorWes CravenStarsHeather LangenkampJohnny DeppRobert EnglundTeenager Nancy Thompson must uncover the dark truth concealed by her parents after she and her friends become targets of the spirit of a serial killer with a bladed glove in their dreams, in which if they die, it kills them in real life.Great movie, legitimately creepy, and riveting from beginning to end. Wes Craven is a god at horror filmmaking, and this movie proves it. With down to earth acting, and genuinely horrifying dream sequences ("O God I would be bounded in a nutshell" - still get chills thinking about it), this is one you can watch over and over and not get bored of.
- DirectorMichael ChavesStarsLinda CardelliniRaymond CruzPatricia VelasquezIgnoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm.Good acting, great directing, excellent choreography, but a really boring and predictable story with a horrendous ending. The movie looks great, but it's not a great movie at all.
