- DirectorNapoleon A. ChagnonStarsNapoleon A. ChagnonDedeheiwäThis film is an exceptionally vivid portrayal of shamanic activity, as well as an exploration of the close connection between politics and shamanism in Yanomamo culture. The shaman plays a vital role in Yanomamo society, for it is he who calls, commands, and often is possessed by spirits, or hekura. "Like myriad glowing butterflies dancing in the sky," the hekura come down invisible trails from the mountain tops when they are summoned. A powerful shaman such as Dedeheiwa, who is known even in distant villages, manipulates not only the spirits of the mountains but also those that live within his own body. The body is a vehicle for the hekura: lured by beautiful body paint, they enter the feet and eventually settle in the chest. MAGICAL DEATH shows how shamanic drama is enacted, led by Dedeheiwa. Dedeheiwa and other shamans prepare by taking hallucinogenic drugs which enable them to speak to and become the spirits. Dedeheiwa calls a "hot and meat-hungry" hekura to devour the children's souls with fire. Then the shamans become their victims, as they writhe like dying children in a pile of ashes. Becoming hekura spirits again, they devour the ashes representing the dead children. The first day's drama ends when Dedeheiwa himself falls unconscious, attacked by a magical hook sent from another enemy. The second day, the elaborate drama resumes, as Dedeheiwa becomes a young man from the enemy village who dodges the shamans' attacks but eventually is destroyed.

- DirectorGil KarniThousands of victims of PTSD in Israel live with no hope. In recent years an innovative treatment for PTSD was developed - psycho active substances. The film documents victims of PTSD, over a period of several years, who are treated with MDMA at the Beer Yaakov Mental Health Center. In the film, we return with the PTSD patients to the site of the trauma, to their lives before and to the long and complex road that is fully documented and which provides a rare glimpse into a treatment/research process that restores their will to live. The protagonists courageously consented to allow us to use the trial footage, knowing the importance of this unusual treatment that they underwent.
- A New Understanding explores the treatment of end-of-life anxiety in terminally ill cancer patients using psilocybin, a psychoactive compound found in some mushrooms, to facilitate deeply spiritual experiences. The documentary explores the confluence of science and spirituality in the first psychedelic research studies since the 1970s with terminally ill patients. As a society we devote a great deal of attention to treating cancer, but very little to treating the human being who is dying of cancer. The recent resurgence of psychedelic research is once again revealing the power of compounds like psilocybin to profoundly alter our understanding of both life and death. Through the eyes of patients, their loved ones, therapists, and researchers, A New Understanding examines the use of psilocybin in a controlled setting to reduce psychospiritual anxiety, depression, and physical pain. The treatment aims to help the patient understand that a 'good' death is possible, and to help the patient's family deal well with the dying process. A New Understanding shows patients and their families coming to terms with dying through the skillful treatment of the whole human being. If we can learn to work more skillfully with dying, we will also learn to take better care of life.

Now a ubiquitous part of Mexican culture and diet, Coca-cola and other sugary drinks are as much a way of life as they are of death, unleashing a public health crisis on a government and population ill-equipped to handle it. As eye-opening as it is galvanizing, El Susto uncovers the powerful beverage industry's outsized influence across the country, its access driven by deep political ties, aggressive marketing campaigns and gross abuse of power. When public health officials determine to fight back and curb the tide of the sugary epidemic with a national soda tax, it will require not only the heroic efforts of advocates united with politicians to create and enforce regulations but the reeducation of a population that consumes the most soda per capita in the world. Featuring families who have been devastated by Type 2 Diabetes for generations; healthcare workers embedded in the communities most impacted by the epidemic; leading public health advocates, including Alejandro Cavillo and Dr. Simon Barquera, on the frontlines of the fight; and even a former Coca-cola marketing executive who now renounces his role in the industry, El Susto charts Big Soda's insidious infiltration into Mexican society as courageous public health advocates, medical professionals and community members take action to fight for the well-being of a nation.
