A tête-à-tête between Ted and Sylvia in Albuquerque turns into a fiasco when Kitty and Dick arrive to find them both drunk. Kitty leaves angrily for home, boarding a train that Ted and Dick learn is headed for a collapsing bridge. Both men try to save Kitty by flying to warn the engineer. Ted crash-lands on the tracks and wrecks his aircraft, but stops the train in time. Dick flies him back to the hospital with Kitty, and the couple reunites.

Reporter Sam Erskine suspecting that the games are being thrown and talks Betty into accepting a job on the Chronicle to find out what she can to protect her father's name. Maxwell discovers Alec's true identity and orders Betty kidnapped, thus ensuring that Alec's play will lead to an Indians' defeat in an important game.

Those confined quarters with newlyweds Hank and Connie, and spurned Sam who believes Connie still truly loves him and will never love Hank, lead to an environment of tension, the only one not knowing what is going on being Hank. What happens in this triangle is affected by what each wants with respect to the other two, and as time goes on what each thinks the other two want.

Police Detective O'Haffey investigated Vaughn's death and unearthed several suspects, including Slade, Julie, Dykes and Dana, but Slade was not satisfied and looked elsewhere.
