Whoopi Goldberg got candid about her mother’s experience in a mental hospital following a mental breakdown when The View co-host was in elementary school.
In an interview with People ahead of the release of her upcoming memoir, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me, Goldberg revealed her mother forgot who she was after undergoing electroshock therapy during her two-year hospitalization. The severe treatment wiped her memory and resulted in her not remembering the Ghost star or her late brother, Clyde.
“My mother at one point when I got older … said, ‘Can I tell you a secret?’ I was like, ‘Sure,'” the actress and comedian told the publication. “She said, ‘I didn’t know who you were when I got out of the hospital.’ It’s like, ‘I’m sorry, what? I’m sorry, what?’ She said, ‘Yeah, I had no idea who you were. I just...

Dogwoof has boarded international sales for “Thom Browne: The Man Who Fell to Earth,” the first feature documentary about the fashion designer. Dogwoof will present the film to buyers in Cannes this month.
“Thom Browne: The Man Who Fell to Earth,” a working title, marks Dogwoof’s third collaboration with director Reiner Holzemer and producer Aminata Sambe following 2016’s “Dries,” an intimate portrait of the fashion designer Dries Van Noten, and 2019’s “Martin Margiela: In His Own Words,” about one of the most revolutionary and influential fashion designers of his time.
“Thom Browne: The Man Who Fell to Earth” follows the ascent to fashion stardom of Browne, whose career is based on the unconventional single concept of the tailored gray suit. His fashion line has garnered A-list collaborators and fans on the way such as Michelle Obama, Billie Eilish, Zendaya, Cardi B and David Bowie, who famously wore Browne’s...

Now that The View is back after a week off for their spring break, it is great to catch up with the ladies.
Fans were upset with the previously recorded episodes of The View and The View: Behind the Table podcast for an entire week.
During a recent episode with Sara Haines, Brian Teta mentioned on the podcast that fans feel the hosts should never get time off, especially during a hot political time in America.
He was adamant in defending their time off, and rightly so. The ladies all deserve some much-needed spring break time. Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro stayed home while the others traveled.
When Sara Haines stopped by the podcast to share her vacation with her husband, she offered some surprising information about going away without her children.

Growing up in Omaha, Amber Ruffin didn’t have many role models who looked like her. “I had not seen Black female performances that weren’t a stereotype and honestly, it was a while until it became regular.” Luckily, there were two movies on regular rotation in her home: “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “The Wiz.”
The first started Oscar-winner Whoopi Goldberg, in whose hyphenate shoes Ruffin would follow, becoming an actor, host, writer and comedian. And the latter was the big-screen adaptation of the revolutionary 1974 Broadway musical, a retelling of “The Wizard of Oz” with an all-Black cast and bumping tunes that blended rock, gospel and soul. Says Ruffin of the films, “They were just so specific and weird that it was like an invitation to be yourself. So I had to squeeze all of the belonging out of those two movies and they lasted me well beyond childhood.”

The cohosts of The View were back after a week-long vacation from the talk show and jumped right into a very hot “Hot Topic” at the top of Monday’s show: the ongoing, nationwide protests taking place across major college campuses in response to the ongoing violence between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg started out by framing the discussion with, “Obviously, and let’s be very clear about this, no one supports any anti-Semitic hate speech and students fearing for their safety. But do they have the right to peacefully protest about ending violence? Isn’t this part of being an American and also, standing up when you see something that’s wrong?” From there, Alyssa Farah Griffin was the first to offer her take, agreeing that the right to free speech and assembly is deeply protected in America. However, she argued that some of the protests are infringing on others’ rights,...

One cannot underestimate the enormity of Jerry Zucker's "Ghost" when it was released in 1990. In the film, Molly (Demi Moore) and Sam (Patrick Swayze) are a well-to-do couple in New York who are very, very much in love. Despite their closeness, not to mention their sexual chemistry, Sam cannot entirely commit, replying only with "ditto" when Molly says "I love you." When Sam is murdered by muggers, he returns to Molly as a ghost, using a medium named Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) to communicate. Can Sam figure out the rules of the afterlife in time to express his undying love for Molly?
"Ghost" was made for a modest $22 million, but made over half a billion dollars worldwide. It was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won Oscars for Whoopi Goldberg and Bruce Joel Rubin, its screenwriter. "Ghost" was a juggernaut, and it's unusual that it...

While some surprises can be nice, The View fans were not okay with the network’s latest decisions. Recently, fans expressed their anger over the latest episode that was aired.
Scheduling Shake-Up
Unexpectedly, The View had a major scheduling mix-up that left fans up in arms. When the fans went to watch their regularly scheduled program, they were in for a rude awakening. Unbeknownst to them, the panelists were taking some time off the air. Little did they know, the episode airing was a month-old replay, but fans caught on quickly. Understandably, the sneaky move left many fans raging upon the discovery of the show not being live. Although fans are enraged, the daytime TV network is offering a return date to appease the masses in the meantime.

Just days after President Joe Biden decried the wage disparity between female and male athletes, Whoopi Goldberg said on ABC’s The View that ESPN should “sweeten” its deal for the broadcast rights of WNBA games.
After pointing out the Clark will make an initial annual salary of $76,535 as a player for the Indiana Fever, Goldberg then noted, “The entire Fever payroll is $1.2 million. That is less than the minimum salary for a single NBA player with a year’s experience.”
The women players, Goldberg continued, “have the headlines, they have the fans, they have the viewers, when the hell are they going to get paid?” Noting that ESPN and ABC are both part of the “Disney thing,” Goldberg added that ESPN “should have kissed this deal by taking care of all of the WNBA and given them enough money for a bump up because you know you have another deal to make.

The View hosts kicked off their segment in the usual way Tuesday, covering the latest major headlines with fiery exchanges. Only this time, the matter that captivated them the most in their first “Hot Topics” session was the reporting that Donald Trump fell asleep during the first day of his criminal trial in New York. To mark the occasion, the cohosts filed out onto the stage to the tune of Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go,” with Whoopi Goldberg explaining, “Yesterday was the first day of You Know Who’s hush money trial, and among the many reports coming out of the courtroom is that You Know Who could not keep his eyes open.” They then reviewed one of the many, many hilarious late-night host’s takes on the same story: Jon Stewart’s line from The Daily Show Monday night. “Imagine doing so many crimes that...

Whoopi Goldberg didn’t let a little play-off music stop her from finishing her impassioned thoughts on the state of current affairs in the United States on Monday’s episode of The View. The cohosts had some hotter-than-usual “Hot Topics” to start the show with — chiefly, the history-making beginning of the first criminal trial against Donald Trump in New York, who stands accused of crimes associated with a hush-money payment to an adult film star. The cohosts each presented their perspectives on the matter of Trump’s trial, largely agreeing that it is an “unprecedented” and “shameful” situation. They ran into some friction, however, when they got to the second segment of the discussion about New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu’s pledge to support Trump, even if he’s convicted on all of the dozens of crimes he is accused of in his four separate cases. Alyssa Farah Griffin, for one,...

CBS announced that The Talk, with Sheryl Underwood, Jerry O Connell, and Natalie Morales will finish up a shortened season in December 2024 and not return in January 2025, Deadline reports.
The View has not yet been renewed for Season 28, and that news may not come until later that summer, like last year. However, there are clues that the renewal will come soon.

Immediately after O.J. Simpson’s death from cancer made the news worldwide, Whoopi Goldberg took time out from the hot topics portion of The View to announce it for those tuning in.
She began the segment by saying, “News broke that O.J. Simpson passed away from cancer at 76.”
As previously reported by Monsters and Critics, O.J. passed away, and a statement from the family reads in part, ” On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer.”
O.J. is most famous for the “trial of the century,” as Sunny Hostin called it on The View.
He was acquitted of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, both of whom died on June 12, 1994, but was subsequently found liable for their deaths, according to ABC News.
The trial in which he was acquitted held special meaning for Sunny Hostin and was partly responsible for shaping her career.

The View‘s “Hot Topics” segment got a bit personal for several of the cohosts, especially Sunny Hostin. In the episode, Hostin, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin (note: Sara Haines was absen t Tuesday) talked about a viral video in which a woman contended that she was accused of not putting enough effort into her appearance by not wearing makeup. “I think that’s hard to tell [someone] because no one would ever ask a man why his face wasn’t made up, ever,” Goldberg said in reaction. “And to me, if I’m working on a pole, then you can talk to me about makeup. But if I’m working in a capacity where I have to talk to people and stuff, what does my face have to do with this? What does my makeup have to do with it?” Goldberg’s words were greeted with uproarious applause from the audience.

There was an unexpected empty chair on the set of The View on Tuesday morning. While Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin were all on hand to discuss the hot topics of the day, Sara Haines was noticeably missing, despite being present for Monday’s eclipse-themed show. After the first commercial break, Goldberg finally addressed the matter of Haines’ absence, explaining, “We were remiss. We needed to tell you that Sara’s out for a few days attending a funeral for a family friend. That’s why she’s not here. It got away from me, yeah.” On social media, viewers sent Haines notes of support, with one saying, “So sorry for your loss,” and another writing, “Aaaaawwww miss u @sarahaines and praying for u and the family.” TV Insider has reached out to Haines’ reps for comments and did not hear back at the time of publication.

The View’s Tuesday broadcast was one co-host short of a full panel.
At the top of the hour, just Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin sat at the show’s Hot Topics table, with Sara Haines clearly M.I.A. (She did, however, appear on Monday’s installment.) So why was Haines absent from the show? Goldberg answered that question at the top of the second segment.

Joy Behar is not a fan of Dolly Parton‘s “Jolene,” even though it’s the original. She much rather prefers Beyoncé’s version for its power and anger.
You see, while Dolly’s version begged this beautiful and seductive Jolene to not take her man, Beyoncé’s version warned that there’ll be consequences should she even make moves to take her man. For this reason, Behar believes that one of these two songs is “anti-feminist.”
Joy Behar – Calls Out Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” For Its “Anti-feminist Message”
Joy Behar is not afraid to speak her mind, whether it means calling a woman a bitch during her European vacation or criticizing a country music legend on a popular podcast.
Originally released in 1973, “Jolene” was given a new leash on life when global superstar Beyoncé covered it for her country album.

The View got off to a fiery start on Monday morning as the cohosts — particularly Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar — got to work batting down one conspiracy theory after another related to the solar eclipse that’s crossing the nation, just days after they experienced a sizable earthquake in New York City. As always, the opening music was a tribute to the occasion, as they walked onto the stage to the tune of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights.” Then, they encouraged audiences to wear special eclipse-specific sunglasses to avoid being, well, blinded by the light. “You will not be blinded by the light unless you do something dumb like this,” Goldberg said, while pointing to a photo of then-President Donald Trump staring at the sky without his own eye protection. “Unless you know that the glasses you have are eclipse glasses, do not put them on to look at the sun.
