There are many horror films, thrillers, and disaster movies that try to capture the worst moments in the lives of fictional characters and touch the hearts of viewers through their suffering.
Some do it better than others, but to this day, no movie can compete with the horrors that surround us in real life.
Sometimes, though, cinematography meets the stories of real people, and that's when the real magic happens. The most realistic disaster movie, filmed in 2012, is now available for everyone to watch on Netflix. But it won't be for long.
Is The Impossible a Good Movie?
In 2004, the Indian Ocean was hit by a tsunami that wreaked havoc in several countries at once. Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and many other countries were affected by the disaster, which took the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and went down in history as one of the world's deadliest disasters.

George Lucas has a filmography that will make any filmmaker envious. It includes Star Wars and Indiana Jones, two of the most popular franchises of all time along with underrated gems such as American Graffiti. However, despite his globally acclaimed filmography, Lucas regrets not making a project similar to Ewan McGregor’s best war-drama film.

During an interview, Lucas spoke about how some of his other passion projects had to often be sidelined because of his long-term commitment to the Star Wars franchise. At the same time, the filmmaker named one film starring Ewan McGregor, as something he would have liked to make himself. Here is what George Lucas has revealed about one of his biggest regrets despite a very successful career.

Even for a die-hard Star Wars fan like Ewan McGregor, the weight of carrying the franchise and one of its leading IPs can get a bit too much for his temperament. The legendary Jedi Master has had his fair share of troubles and hardships to overcome until his protégé Anakin Skywalker transformed into Darth Vader. A soul-crushing experience such as that one equated to a betrayal of everything he valued and reflected an utter failure on his part to save his friend from the Dark Side of the Force.

The Star Wars saga is pretty perfect just the way it is, and perhaps no die-hard fan would argue otherwise. But what if things didn’t end the way they did? What if some characters faced wildly different ends than what was originally penned down for them, like Anakin Skywalker, for instance? Well, one game on the lore seems to set that perfect alternate ending for Darth Vader.
The Star Wars Universe.
This game is none other than the Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith video game, which quite literally has an alternate point of view to Anakin’s fate at the end of this story. As opposed to the one seen in the movies, this one sees Vader go full-blown evil and kill Obi-Wan Kenobi instead of letting him leave him on the lava shore, and fans just seem to love it.

For over a decade, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were the dream Hollywood couple. The actors who had a fairytale romance on the sets of their film Days of Thunder, tied the knot in 1990 and seemed to have the perfect life until their shocking divorce in 2001. During this period, the ex-couple also starred in Stanley Kubrick’s bold erotic drama, Eyes Wide Shut.

Star Wars has been, and still is, a massive part of this particular writer’s life. Unfortunately, I wasn’t around to catch A New Hope or The Empire Strikes Back in cinemas when they were first released, but I did manage to sneak in to see those cuddly Ewoks lay waste to the Empire in Return of the Jedi back in 1983. The franchise inspired me to work in the industry, and I had the thrill of watching and re-watching the original trilogy countless times with friends and family. As we all know, the series evolved into a cultural behemoth and, unlike nowadays, where I think the amount of Star Wars content that is available to consume is actually to the detriment of the series’ quality, we only had the original movies to cling to.

It was the ‘80s and ‘90s all over again at the weekend box office. Universal’s The Fall Guy, the Ryan Gosling starrer inspired by the 1980s TV show, kicked off the summer movie season at No. 1 with $28.5 million, while Disney’s re-release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace surprised by coming in at No. 2 with $8.1 million.
Despite The Fall Guy’s No. 1 finish, its haul came in behind initial expectations of $30 million to $35 million, and overall the box office is down dramatically from the same frame a year ago, when Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 bowed to $118.4 million domestically. The weekend is down 53 percent from last year, and off more than 66 percent from 2022, when Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opened to $187.4 million domestically.
The Fall Guy is said to have a net budget of $130 million after tax incentives for shooting in Australia.

You never forget your first, or so they say. In this case, it's one's first costume obsession. Mine, to be precise. It came to be in 1999 when I was five years old, and my dad took me to see Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Like many men of his generation, he was a fan of George Lucas's space fantasy, eager to share that love with his kid. It started with the original trilogy on VHS tapes and then came the movie event of the season. Though many hated the prequel, we two didn't share that feeling. Indeed, little Cláudio was besotted.
Sure, the lightsaber duels were memorable and the score was stirring, the CGI was out of this world and Ewan McGregor left such an impression I went as Obi-wan Kenobi to the following year's Carnival. But what most shook me was Queen Amidala,...

What makes a great lightsaber fight? The three-way rumpus between the young Obi-Wan Kenobi, his mentor Qui Gon-Jinn, and their horned -- not horny, important difference that -- opponent Darth Maul in "The Phantom Menace" is unrivaled for sheer athletic grace. Yet, for emotional stakes, it's got nothing on Obi-Wan clashing with his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, in "Revenge of the Sith" and especially Anakin/Darth Vader's bouts with his son Luke from the original trilogy.
If we're talking about scuffles that merge fluid choreography with emotion-driven storytelling, though, it's hard to top "Star Wars Rebels." Being animated not only makes it easier for the series to construct visually dynamic lightsaber duels but also to do so in a way that serves a myriad of purposes. Those can be as simple as establishing that a mysterious villain like the Grand Inquisitor is not to be trifled with, or exploring the...

‘Star Wars’ Motion Capture/Voice Actor Ahmed Best Recalls The Hatred For His Jar Jar Binks Character
Jar Jar Binks. Invoke the name to any hardcore Star Wars fan and then step back to see the explosion. No one is neutral.
The actor who brought the goofy Gungan character to life, Ahmed Best, had a number of highs and lows attached to his role. Opinions on the character ran hot after his Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace debut 25 years ago.
Best spoke to People about the role. Not all of his memories were fond.
“Everybody came for me,” he recalled. “I’m the first person to do this kind of (motion capture) work, but I was also the first Black person, Black man.”
Best said he was “ostracized” from doing similar motion-capture work in Hollywood because of the widespread criticism his character received at the time.
He was touring with the Stomp dance troupe in 1997 when a casting director offered an audition at Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Ranch.

"Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace" is back in theaters for its 25th anniversary this week. Some "Star Wars" fans will doubtlessly be celebrating (and turning out to make "The Phantom Menace" a box office smash once more) and I won't begrudge them that. But sorry, I'm still not on board with prequel trilogy revisionism.
I was born the same year as "The Phantom Menace" premiered — it's the movie that introduced me to "Star Wars." I know my generation has largely accepted the prequels, but while I can appreciate their ideas, they're still too hindered by shoddy storytelling and flat acting for me to sign off on the execution. As his dazzling debut, Shallow Grave, gets a 30th anniversary rerelease, here’s to an extraordinary career that ranges from Trainspotting to Slumdog Millionaire and that unforgettable London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony
Lancashire-born film-maker Danny Boyle holds a special place in the nation’s heart, having been responsible for not one but three defining moments in our recent pop-culture history. George Lucas’ “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” has a clear set-up/pay-off as the reason for its existence: young, innocent child Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) will grow up to become Darth Vader, a manifestation of evil. The movie’s entire reason for existence is ultimately to introduce us to this child and make us think about how far we are from the fall of the Republic, and how the Empire will arise in only a generation. These were major stakes and not a bad place to get fans excited for the first new “Star Wars” movie in 16 years. And yet when “The Phantom Menace” arrived in theaters in 1999 it was met with either a mix of fans trying to convince themselves it was good (“‘Star Wars’ has always been corny!”) or outright disappointment.

Brian Blessed speaks – well, booms – to Empire about the formidable Gungan leader.
“It took your bloody head off!” bellows Brian Blessed down the phone line, as only he can. The legendarily bushy-bearded 87-year-old actor is recounting for Empire the first time he saw Star Wars: in 1977, having been made aware of the film from a “great big billboard at Snow Hill railway station in Birmingham”, Blessed sallied forth to the first cinema he could find. An avowed science-fiction nerd and keen space enthusiast — “I am actually a fully trained astronaut”, he notes several times during our conversation — he found himself transfixed. “Here was something totally, completely original. “Obi-Wan. Now, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time… A long time.” Every Star Wars fan recognizes that line as one of the first things that the great Sir Alec Guinness says as Obi-Wan Kenobi at the start of A New Hope. For years, these fans have wondered what could have happened to poor Ben to wipe his much cooler name from memory.
While the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi gave fans an answer, it could have been so much worse. Early planning for the follow-up to Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith involved a much darker intro scene for Ewan McGregor‘s fallen Jedi Master, much worse than working on an assembly line cutting up a “sand whale” or living in a cave on Tatooine.

Christopher Lee graced the screens with his performances as menacing villains in several notable projects. The late actor delighted his fans when his career saw a resurgence after appearing as Saruman in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Following that he also appeared as the villainous Count Dooku in Star Wars: Episode II- Attack of the Clones (2002).
Christopher Lee as Count Dooku
Lee’s performance as Count Dooku was one of the rarest positive elements in the much-criticized Prequel Trilogy. But the late actor did not seem to have a very good experience during the filming. Additionally, despite a good performance, a certain section of fans believe that Count Dooku is the most underutilized Star Wars villain.

George Lucas gave birth to one of the greatest pop culture phenomena when he made Star Wars in 1977. The space-opera feature smashed box office records and established a new unique franchise. However, after the conclusion of the Original Trilogy, when Lucas released the Prequel Trilogy, things did not play out well.

While the Original Trilogy of Star Wars was widely appreciated and still loved by the fans, the departure from the traditional style was disliked by many in the Prequel stories. Interestingly, George Lucas played a massive gamble by financing the second Prequel film, Attack of the Clones, which does not have a good name among the fans. It generated a mixed to negative reception worldwide.

In the Paramount+ and Showtime series, adapted from Amor Towles’ best-selling novel, the count becomes confined to the Metropol Hotel after the Russian Revolution due to his class and title. Despite all the changes and shifts that happened in Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy has managed to “survive” as the president of the company and she is still running the Star Wars franchise in collaboration with Disney, despite many negative comments on her work, as well as some of the recent Star Wars projects. And while Kennedy is certainly responsible for a lot of the franchise’s successes, she has also been blamed for a lot of the failures.
Kennedy is known for voicing her opinion, and her opinions have often been subject to criticism as well, but this has not stopped her from speaking out. Not so long ago, the president of Lucasfilm talked about the issue of recasting popular roles, and from what we can understand, she is not a big fan of the practice.

Tobias Menzies has become one of our most reliably excellent actors of late. Classically trained, he had an extensive theatre career in his native England during the noughties and early 2010s before he rose to prominence with roles in “Game of Thrones” and “Outlander.”
Menzies’ profile then increased further thanks to his lauded portrayal of Prince Phillip in “The Crown” and his stock has again risen thanks to his role as another major historical figure in Apple TV’s “Manhunt.” The acclaimed limited series follows the death of President Abraham Lincoln (played by Hamish Linklater) and the subsequent 12-day manhunt for assassin John Wilkes Booth (Anthony Boyle).

Michael Bay is one of today's most recognizable filmmakers, known for his ability to deliver truly high-octane, spectacular movies with stunning production values. His films are always full of memorable action sequences, expert editing and cinematography, and coupled with big budgets, almost every movie Bay directs becomes a smash hit. This is especially true of the incredibly popular sci-fi franchise based on the Hasbro toy line, Transformers.
Although, after the release of the first film, the next four installments received increasingly negative reviews from critics, it was never about the visual effects. Moreover, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction became some of the highest grossing films of all time, making over $1 billion globally.
These movies also featured enormous budgets, which today only Disney can boast when producing the (often ill-fated) projects for the MCU, but this did not prevent a 'controversy' surrounding the direction of Michael Bay.

Holocaust movies don't come around nearly as often as, say, spy dramas or rom-coms about ugly duckling teens. That's probably because the pressure to get it right is so high – Holocaust movies deal with the absolute worst of humanity, and you can never get away from the fact these were real people.
However, Hollywood's latest Holocaust drama was not only nominated for five Academy Awards, it's now also beaten out thousands of other titles to become the most-watched title across streaming services.

Out of the many "Star Wars" shows that have come out of the Disney era, "Obi-Wan Kenobi" is arguably the weirdest. Like "The Book of Boba Fett," it is a show about one of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise, which brings back beloved actors, and promises to answer some questions fans had wondered about for years in regards to Kenobi's actions and whereabouts before meeting Luke Skywalker. Our own Ethan Anderton called this an unnecessary prequel in his review, but acknowledged that it's also "a thrilling new adventure that adds enticing emotional layers to the Jedi Master's story."
The show depicts Obi-Wan Kenobi hiding from his guilt over what happened to Anakin, from the ghosts of all his dead friends, and from the dangers of the Empire. Before Kenobi reclaimed his connection to the Force, he was just a sad hermit living in the desert. But we...

Streaming on Shudder May 17th is Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, the chilling sequel to the Danish cult-classic Nightwatch (1994), which inspired the 1997 U.S. remake starring Ewan McGregor.
22-year-old medical student Emma (Fanny Leander Bornedal) has just taken a job as the night watch in the same forensic department where her parents were once almost killed by the famed psychopathic police inspector Wörmer. The events led to her mother’s suicide, and her father Martin (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) has turned to tranquilizers to suppress the memories. Determined to investigate what exactly happened to them, Emma tracks down and confronts Wörmer, only to unintentionally reawaken his bloodthirst and ignite a violent revenge on everyone who sealed his destiny years ago.
Written and directed by Ole Bornedal (The Possession), 1994’s Nightwatch was a success in Denmark and was shown at the Fantafestival in 1995. An English-language remake of the film, also directed by Bornedal, was...

"Isn't that Wörmer's signature?" Shudder has revealed the official US trailer for the Danish horror mystery sequel Nightwatch 2, known as Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, from the same Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal. Not to be confused with the two Russian movies Night Watch and Day Watch, this is not related - it's a new sequel to Bornedal's 1994 movie Nightwatch, which was remade into Nightwatch in 1997 with Ewan McGregor. The original also starred Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who has become considerably more famous after "Game of Thrones". In this sequel, Martin's daughter, Emma, takes up a night watch job to find out what happened to her parents almost thirty years ago. A meeting with Wörmer in his cell pulls the serial killer out of his coma and sets in motion a chain of fateful events. Starring Fanny Leander Bornedal, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kim Bodnia, Sonja Richter, Ulf Pilgaard, Casper Kjær Jensen, Paprika Steen, and Nina Rask.
