You know, a wise man once said that sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name.
"Cheers" is one of the best and most popular sitcoms of all time. That's not hyperbole, either — critics and fans alike will sing the praises of the show until you can't stand it anymore. "Okay, I get it!" you'll say. "You love 'Cheers'! Leave me alone!" Running for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993, and starring Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Rhea Perlman, George Wendt, John Ratzenberger, Woody Harrelson, and more, "Cheers" was actually a flop during its first season, finishing last in the ratings during its premiere. Things were so bad, in fact, that the network almost pulled the plug. Eventually, though, "Cheers" found its audience, and that audience couldn't get enough of the barflies and bartenders who called the show home.
The show sprang forth from creators Glen and Les Charles and James Burrows, and as it turns out,...

With the 96th Academy Awards in the history books, it’s time to become obsessed over the 77th Tony Awards. Nominations are April 30th with the awards set to air on CBS on June 16 from Lincoln Center. Among the contenders for Tony nominations are many musicals based on movies including “Back to the Future,’ “The Notebook,” “Water for Elephants” and “The Outsiders”: high profile revivals such as Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People” with Jeremy Strong; “Cabaret” with Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne and the Who’s “Tommy”; imports from London and transfers from off-Broadway.
Do you remember the Tony landscape 50 years ago? The 28th annual honors took place April 21, 1974, at the Shubert Theater and aired on ABC. And to say it was a star-studded affair is something of an understatement. Robert Preston, Peter Falk, Cicely Tyson, Florence Henderson hosted; presenters included Al Pacino –-let’s hope he had better...

The classic sitcom "Taxi" has its fair share of interesting characters that work in New York City's Sunshine Cab Company, but arguably the tender heart at its center is boxer Tony Banta, played by Tony Danza. He's not always the brightest crayon in the box, but he's full of courage and love and would do just about anything for his friends. Despite being a bit of a womanizer early on, he's never cruel or lecherous like his boss Louie (Danny DeVito), and he is a fantastic friend to his co-worker Elaine (Marilu Henner). He's also surprisingly sweet despite his punchy side gig, serving as the template for later sitcom characters like Joey from "Friends." It's truly hard to imagine "Taxi" without him.
What's even harder to imagine is the character of Tony being played by anybody else. He's warm and earnest and bounces off great against some of the more cynical comedians on the cast.

It took a savvy comedy fan to know what Andy Kaufman was doing with his career. More than a mere funnyman, Kaufman tended to satirize the trappings of standup comedy, often using his routines to play pranks on the audience. As detailed in Miloš Forman's 1999 biopic "Man on the Moon," Kaufman wanted to host a TV special that contained artificial signal "static" in the hope that viewers would get up out of their seats and whack their "broken" TV sets. That's not funny for the audience, but it's certainly funny for Kaufman.
Part of Kaufman's satirical act was a whole separate stage persona named Tony Clifton, a foul-mouthed, alcoholic lounge singer who cussed and behaved badly. Clifton was also occasionally played by Kaufman's close friend and associate Bob Zmuda, allowing Clifton and Kaufman to occasionally appear in the same room, calling the reality of the character into question. The View hosted an epic reunion of the cast of Taxi, 45 years after the series premiered on ABC. The ladies hosted Danny DeVito, Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd, Judd Hirsch, Marilu Henner and Carol Kane for the celebration.
“For us, from the first day, the first moment we got together, it was like a family,” said DeVito, who played Louie De Palma, about the continued popularity of the series. “We were hugging and kissing the first day and we didn’t even really know each other. We read the script and everyone was falling into place. It was miraculous. But we appreciated it and never took it for granted. We always felt like the work was the most important thing.”
Added Hirsch, who played Alex Reiger, “We said, we gotta do this. If we’re not good, it’s not gonna work. They canceled shows left and right in those years.

Nearly 40 years after outré comedian Andy Kaufman’s death from cancer, there remain fans who are certain that a faked demise was Kaufman’s most ambitious and committed hoax.
Until proven otherwise, this is a ridiculous conviction. That said, it’s probably no more or less absurd than believing that Andy Kaufman is a figure who could be explained or even adequately summarized in a conventional documentary. There are some outsized personalities so cloaked in mythology that even the tallest tales about them seem believable, but Kaufman’s personality was so cloaked in subterfuge that any attempt to deconstruct that personality or his behavior is going to come across as a bit within a bit.
This is the problem that Alex Braverman’s new documentary Thank You Very Much runs into. The documentary is filled with fantastic footage from Kaufman’s fearless performances, mostly familiar but still wildly iconoclastic. It...

The cast of Disney’s “Haunted Mansion” were only at their premiere in spirit. Following the breakout of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the stars of the film skipped out on the Saturday night premiere for the theme park film adaptation
The movie, the second adaptation of Disney’s iconic Haunted Mansion attraction after the 2003 Eddie Murphy film, stars a large ensemble cast that includes Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Winona Ryder, Dan Levy, Hasan Minhaj, Chase W. Dillon, Marilu Henner, and Lindsay Lamb. None of the actors attended the red carpet at Disneyland in Anaheim, according to Variety. Los Angeles, July 16 (Ians) Disney went ahead with the red carpet premiere of its latest production ‘Haunted Mansion’ recently, making it the first major movie world premiere after SAG-AFTRA began their strike.

The show must go on apparently for Disney’s Haunted Mansion, as the premiere at Disneyland continued to take place on Saturday, despite SAG-AFTRA voting to strike on Thursday morning.
As Variety reported earlier in the week, the film’s debut was going to happen regardless of how the strike vote landed. On Saturday, instead of the usual interviews with actors and actresses as they walked the red carpet, the press was met with Disneyland characters strutting their stuff as “guests,” as Variety shared. Disney didn’t let the SAG-AFTRA strike get in the way of its “Haunted Mansion” world premiere.
None of the stars of the movie were expected to be in attendance, including Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Daniel Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hasan Minhaj, Marilu Henner and Lindsay Lamb all observing the SAG-AFTRA strike. The studio still rolled out the red carpet at Disneyland in Anaheim Saturday night.
Director Justin Simien told Variety he was “sad” his cast couldn’t attend, but understands why and supports the actors walkout. Press were initially told that Simien would not be doing interviews.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion is hosting its premiere at Disneyland on July 15, regardless of what transpires concerning the SAG-AFTRA strike. Disney says the red carpet premiere will become a “fan event” if the guild calls for a strike. Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Daniel Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chase W. Dillon, Hasan Minhaj, Marilu Henner, and Lindsay Lamb are among those who star in the film, all of which could strike if the negotiations continue. The film also features Winona Ryder in an undisclosed role and Jared Leto as the famous villain from the Disney attraction, the Hat-Box Ghost.
What remains to be seen is if the film’s director, Justin Simien, producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, executive producers Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman, and composer Kris Bowers would walk an actor-less red carpet if Disney decides to roll one out. No matter what happens, Disney...

Disney’s Haunted Mansion premiere at Disneyland this Saturday will turn into a fan event should the SAG-AFTRA strike occur.
Sources tell us that Disney is still mulling whether there will be a red carpet press line on Saturday if a SAG-AFTRA work stoppage occurs; essentially studio executives, Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien, producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, EPs Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman and composer Kris Bowers could be available for interviews in such an instance.
The current SAG-AFTRA contract was extended to 11:59Pm, tomorrow, Wednesday. Any actors and actresses nominated for Primetime Emmys can still do press, but after Thursday, they cannot do any press for any projects. That rule by the union has tied the hands of studios and networks heading down to San Diego Comic-Con next week, from July 19-23. Expect to see a lot of screenings and trailers, and hardly any talking heads down there.

Disney’s red carpet premiere for “Haunted Mansion,” held on July 15 at Disneyland, will take place even if there is a SAG-AFTRA strike.
It is the first major world premiere set to take place after the strike deadline.
The stars of the movie, including Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Daniel Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hasan Minhaj, Marilu Henner and Lindsay Lamb, would no longer be able to take part in the festivities in the case of a strike.
It is not clear if director Justin Simien, producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, executive producers Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman and composer Kris Bowers, would participate in a traditional red carpet with photographers and interview press. That is, if Disney still rolls out a carpet.
Strike or no strike, the studio is expected to host about 2,000 guests, including fans in costumes, at the premiere.

Frederic Forrest, who earned critical acclaim opposite Bette Midler in The Rose and collaborated with Francis Ford Coppola, has died. He was 86.
Other than earning both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for playing Huston Dwyer — the opposite end of a doomed relationship — in 1979’s The Rose, Frederic Forrest is perhaps best known for playing Jay “Chef” Hicks, who loses his head both mentally and literally, in Apocalypse Now the same year. For both performances Forrest was recognized by the National Society of Film Critics as that year’s Best Supporting Actor.
Bette Midler took to Twitter to pay tribute to her co-star, saying Frederic Forrest was a “remarkable actor” and “brilliant human being.”

If you had any doubts that the series could thrive after Candace Cameron Bure's departure, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New allayed those fears.
De-aging the characters worked exceptionally well, and the most questionable choice -- to retain Marilu Henner as Aurora's mom, Aida -- gave the series an unexpected tether to the earlier episodes.
There's no doubt that this was a gamble that paid off handsomely for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
Once upon a time, Bure was Hallmark royalty. There's a reason that she starred in 29 movies between the two networks, a record that will soon see Lacey Chabert, with 27, catching up and bypassing her.
Choosing a replacement for the longest-running mystery franchise couldn't have been easy with those big shoes to fill, but Skyler Samuels steps into the role perfectly.

Samuels weighed in on what it was like to portray a different version of a beloved character in a live chat with her co-stars Marilu Henner and Evan Roderick (via YouTube). The project excited her as an actor, she said.
“I was vaguely familiar with the Aurora franchise and world before, and when I had the opportunity to reprise young Aurora, I thought it was a really interesting challenge,” Samuels said. “I’ve never sort of reinvented or taken the reins of a character that already exists before.”

Beanie Feldstein is married! On Thursday, Vogue confirmed the actor had tied the knot with her longtime partner, Bonnie-Chance Roberts, on May 19 at Cedar Lakes Estate in Upstate New York.
"It is our happy place together," Feldstein told the publication. "I grew up going to summer camp for ten years, and my parents and both sets of my grandparents met at summer camp, so camp is a lineage of love through the generations of my family. Even though we met in London and fell in love on a film set, to get married at a camp was a truly beautiful emotional homecoming."
Of their wedding weekend, Feldstein said, "On Friday night, we wanted to take our guests on a true camp experience with bandana tablecloths and s'mores for dessert, with pennant banners and friendship bracelets: a true 'We're at summer camp' feeling." She added: "Then, we really wanted to surprise...

40 years after the classic sitcom came to an end, 4 members of the cast of “Taxi” reunited for lunch. Luckily for fans of the show, the group — Christopher Lloyd, Judd Hirsh, Carol Kane and Tony Danza –later shared the moment on Twitter with a charming photo posted to Lloyd’s Twitter account.
“What the hell is going on here?” Lloyd asked in the tweet.

For those who don’t remember, “Taxi” was a very well regarded sitcom that aired from 1978-1983, first on ABC before it was canceled after Season 4, then revived on NBC for its 5th and final season. The show followed a group of disillusioned misfits working for a Manhattan cab company, anchored by Hirsch’s Alex Reiger, who happens to be the only employee that doesn’t consider the job temporary.

We are junkies and art is our drug. Family we love – but art? We are meshuggah for art. You think I wanted to leave my sisters, my mama and my papa and go stick my stupid head in the mouth of lions?”

Boris, an eccentric crank based on the filmmaker’s real great-uncle, unleashes the abrasive life lesson on the adolescent Spielberg-alike Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel Labelle) during Hirsch’s fleeting appearance in the film. One of Hallmark's most popular movie franchises is staging a comeback... without its leading lady.
Hallmark Movies & Mysteries announced Thursday it had picked up a new Aurora Teagarden Mysteries movie.
The flick becomes the 19th movie in the franchise, but the first without Candace Cameron Bure, who departed the cabler for a lucrative deal with Gac Family in 2022.
At the time, it seemed like the franchise was dead and buried, but the easiest way for the cabler to switch things up is to take a trip to the past with Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New.
Skyler Samuels has been drafted in as the titular crime-solver in a movie that flashes back to Aurora's post-college days "when she finds herself back home in Lawrenceton," according to the official description.

When she’s in town — after the exes spend the night together — the two reminisce about when Alex was born, and she recalls Kilbride fighting to stay awake while holding him. At the time, Elizabeth thought he’d always be there for their son. But now, “you let me down, Hollace, but more importantly, you let Alex down, too,” she tells him. She waited to bring it up until she knew he’d changed. “Alex is an adult. He made choices — choices that left no room for me and I tried to help, many times, but he just cut me out of his life,” ...

That’s about to change, with Elizabeth hoping to talk him into reconnecting with their son, Alex (Christopher Gorham guest stars this spring). How does that go? Henner raves about her guest spot and working with McRaney below. How are you? Marilu Henner: I’m good. And I’m so excited to be talking about this because I had just the best time working on this with my buddy Gerald McCraney, Mac. I love him so much. We just had the best day.

The above logline states Elizabeth's mission, and it sounds like it will resonate with her ex-husband.

NCIS: Los Angeles may be ending in a few months, but we'll be taking a trip down memory lane before that happens.
NCIS: Los Angeles Season 14 Episode 13, airing Sunday, February 26, will feature a blast from Kilbride's (Gerald McRaney) past.
We already covered the fact that Marilu Henner will guest-star during the episode as Kilbride's ex-wife, who visits her one-time husband with one goal:
Reconnect with his estranged son, Alex.
Later this season, Alex will appear in the flesh because TV Insider broke the news that Christopher Gorham has been cast as Alex.
Beyond the fact Kilbride will be reuniting with his son during the episode, we don't know what will go down.
CBS confirmed last month that the current season would be the end of the procedural drama series.
The news came as a shocker to longtime fans, but we can take solace in the fact that the May...

It’s a family affair for Retired Admiral Hollace Kilbride (Gerald McRaney) in the remaining episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles. TV Insider has learned exclusively that Christopher Gorham has been cast as Kilbride’s estranged son Alex, for what is being described as “a rocky reunion.” The episode will air in the spring. This comes after Marilu Henner is set to guest star as Kilbride’s ex-wife, who hopes he’ll reconnect with their son, in the February 26 episode; she will not be in Gorham’s episode. It was in Season 13 that Kilbride, in talking to Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) about the challenges the investigator and Kensi (Daniela Ruah) faced trying to become foster parents (which they would be by the finale), shared a bit about his family. “I have dedicated my life to the Navy, and I am proud of the career I’ve had. But I would be...

Judd Hirsch has portrayed several memorable characters over the past 50 years including Alex Rieger in the classic ABC/NBC 1978-83 sitcom “Taxi” for which he won two Emmys, the caring psychiatrist Dr. Berger in 1980’s “Ordinary People,” which earned him a supporting actor Oscar nomination, and Eddie Ross, the angry, verbally abusive bartender in Herb Gardner’s 1992 play “Conversations with My Father,” for which he won a Tony. His latest indelible character is the colorful Uncle Boris, a former lion tamer and film worker, in Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans,” earning a second Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for Hirsch.
Hirsch, who just won the AARP’s Movies for Grownups Award for supporting actor, has made Academy Award history with his nomination. He eclipsed by one year the 41-year gap between bids set by Henry Fonda. At age 87, Hirsch would be the oldest acting winner; Christopher Plummer was 82 when he won for 2011’ “Beginners.
