Image created by “Shutterstock.AI” The Back to the Future trilogy wouldn’t be the same without its classic villain, Biff Tannen. Thomas F. Wilson brought a unique blend of humor and menace to the character, making him unforgettable. It’s fascinating to think that Wilson himself is so different from his on-screen persona. We’ve spoken to him over the years, and he shared how playing Biff pushed him as an actor, especially in those intense scenes opposite Lea Thompson as Lorraine. To understand "Left Behind," one must understand a version of Christianity not widely practiced by many people outside certain pockets of the United States. In some American Evangelical churches, they preach of the coming Rapture, when all of the Christians on Earth -- including the dead ones -- will be bodily scooped up by God and transported into Heaven. The idea of a Rapture is taken from an interpretation from the Book of Thessalonians which didn't enter into the Christian lexicon until about the 1830s, making it a very recent development. When Evangelical churches began to become popular in the United States in the 1950s, a stripe of fundamentalist theology began embracing the Rapture as a prophecy that was almost immediately nigh.
On December 31, 1995, Baptist minister Jim Lahaye and author Jerry B. Jenkins published the Rapture-themed book "Left Behind: A Novel of the Earth's Last Days" to much ballyhoo. "Left Behind...

The "Back to the Future" films are incredibly beloved, with a unique impact on pop culture that's almost hard to quantify. Robert Zemeckis' 1985 film "Back to the Future" spawned two sequels, a video game, and even a musical, as well as providing the genesis for the adult cartoon "Rick and Morty." The first movie is a zany tale of down-on-his-luck teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who ends up traveling through time in a DeLorean with the help of mad scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), wreaking havoc on the timeline and engaging in all kinds of silly time travel tropes along the way. The second film is a direct continuation of the first, with time travel to 1955 and 2015 to try and create the best future for Marty and his family. It's not as beloved as the first movie, but folks are still pretty fond of it. Then there's the "Back to the Future Part III,...

Andrew McCarthy has written and directed Brats, and his documentary about The Brat Pack arrives later this year. More details within.
Tearing up the 1980s, both on and off cinema screens, was a bunch of young performers who earned themselves the collective name of The Brat Pack.
The group was made up of the likes of Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, Bob Cryer and Andrew McCarthy, and they sprung to prominence particularly in 1985 and 1986. That’s when that group made up the cast for two hit movies, namely St Elmo’s Fire (pictured) and Pretty In Pink.
Other films followed, and the tabloid interest was intense, leading writer David Blum to give them the Brat Pack name. Andrew McCarthy reflected on all of this in a memoir he penned called Brats, released in 2021. Now, Deadline reports that the story is being turned by McCarthy into a documentary.

Lovers of 80s movies know the Brat Pack. The group of stars who graced the silver screen in films like Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and St. Elmos Fire were teen sensations and helped a generation grapple with coming-of-age issues in high school. Most have gone on to blossom into illustrious film careers, but they will always be remembered for their run in the 1980s film scene. While most also eventually bowed gracefully out of show business down the line, Andrew McCarthy was one member who had been out of the spotlight since the 90s.
Deadline is reporting that McCarthy will be rejoining his cohorts for the Hulu documentary titled Brats. McCarthy had written a memoir called Brat: An 80s story and has now written and directed the documentary that is currently in post-production. The film description reads, “McCarthy crisscrosses the country to meet up with some...

John Nichols, who wrote more than a dozen novels including The Milagro Beanfield War and The Sterile Cuckoo — both of which were turned into films by top directors — died Wednesday in Taos, Nm. He was 83.
Nichols, whose works often told stories of small-town New Mexico and social injustice, also co-wrote the screenplay for Milagro Beanfield War. Focused on a battle between mostly Latino farmers and local politicians and real estate developers, it became a 1988 film produced and directed by Robert Redford. The pic starring Ruben Blades, Richard Bradford and Sonia Braga won an Oscar for Dave Grusin’s jazzy score. Watch a trailer below.
Nichols’ 1965 debut novel The Sterile Cuckoo was adapted four years later into a film by Alan J. Pakula. It starred Liza Minnelli in her Oscar-nominated role as Pookie, a zany but honest woman who falls for a young man (Wendell Burton) just before he leaves for college.

This Canadian series aired on CTV earlier this year and has yet to be cancelled or renewed for a second season. If The Spencer Sisters is renewed, there is no guarantee that The CW will pick it up. Earlier this year, the smallest broadcast network dropped several acquired shows midway through their runs when they drew low ratings. Does The Spencer Sisters have a future? Stay tuned.

Lea Thompson and Stacey Farber shined in the new mystery series, The Spencer Sisters. The series combined light-hearted crime drama with family angst well.
The Spencer Sisters Season 1 Episode 1 introduced both Darby and Victoria Spencer and hinted at why they had been estranged.
As an introductory chapter, the series did a decent job previewing the issues our leading ladies may have and what motivated them to go into the private investigation business together.
The Spencer Sisters was similar to many of Canada's other breezy procedurals, where private investigators solve crimes, typically bloodless ones, with plenty of humor sprinkled in. It reminded me of Private Eyes, which made sense since Alan McCullough created and produced both series.
The CW was fortunate to pick this series up since programming was lacking this fall during the strike. It fits right in with their programming, and both actresses have a massive fanbase.

When Nexstar purchased control of The CW from Warner Bros. and Paramount last August, it seemed the home of all things supernatural and superheroic was doomed. Not so, swears entertainment president Brad Schwartz, who knows a few things about launching hidden gems, having brought Canada’s Schitt’s Creek to Pop TV. After a slew of the pricey Warner Bros.–produced titles were axed, the current lineup includes comedies such as Son of a Critch and Children Ruin Everything, sports programming like Inside the NFL, and the religious drama The Chosen. “We are trying to find content that feels different than what others are doing,” Schwartz says. Here are three shows (including two more Canadian imports) that might fit the bill. The Spencer Sisters Back to the Future icon Lea Thompson camps it up as vivacious mystery novelist Victoria Spencer, who ropes her estranged daughter, Darby (Stacey Farber) — a former cop...

Cocktail wasn’t the most well-received movie Cruise had done in his long career. It’s mostly known for being the actor’s lowest-rated film to date. However, for Cruise and his co-star, the movie was also remembered for its intense love scene. Cruise had Killer Joe actor Gina Gershon as his love interest.
It was Gershon’s first major studio picture at the time. When working with Cruise, Gershon shared how he looked out for the inexperienced star. When she had to remove her bra for instance, Cruise made sure that no one else would be able to see her bare chest.

Have you ever wondered why in the 2023 version of "The Haunted Mansion," Owen Wilson is shown eating a big bag of Burger King and telling Lakeith Stanfield that the fast food chain's fried snacks are literal messages from heaven? Or why while Rambo is being told about his off-the-books, super-secret, clandestine mission to rescue POWs from Vietnam in "Rambo: First Blood Part II," the scene gets interrupted by his superior officer purchasing a Coca-Cola from the Coca-Cola vending machine that he inexplicably has in his office?

Steven Spielberg’s Jaws is a tough act to follow. Not only has it come to define the entire shark horror subgenre, but this aquatic adventure movie also revolutionized the concept of the summer blockbuster as we know it today. It’s difficult to understate the film’s legacy. From archetypal characterization, iconic kills, ubiquitous catch phrases, and an incredible score, Jaws is a nearly flawless film that continues to terrify new audiences to this day. The same cannot be said for its sequels, however.
The underrated Jaws 2 feels a bit more like a slasher with its cadre of teens stranded in deadly water. The fourth installment, Jaws: The Revenge, is known for its implausible plot and Michael Caine’s hilarious yet dismissive comments. While the aforementioned sequels have their merits–and fair share of ardent supporters–when it comes time to defend Jaws 3D, few rise to the occasion.

Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson gathered to support Back to the Future: The Musical and posed with the singing stars of the musical, Casey Likes and Roger Bart.
Likes plays Fox’s character, Marty McFly, while Bart plays Lloyd’s character Dr. Emmett Brown. Likes is also the third actor to play Marty McFly in the musical — Ben Joyce took on the role before him, and Olly Dobson was the first.
Bart, however, has been the musical’s Doc Brown since the beginning. He is a Tony Award winner and is a Broadway regular as he’s best known for originating the character Carmen Ghia in another musical, The Producers.

Mark Grayson is back! Well, he will be on November 3, 2023, when the animated superhero program "Invincible" returns to Prime Video for its second season. Fans of the show have waited a long time for the show's return, with two and half years separating the first season finale and this upcoming premiere.
