Amazon Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” is taking this Emmy race seriously.
With stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine leading the charge, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” which draws inspiration from the 2005 movie featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, is set to compete in the drama categories at this year’s awards ceremony.
Crafted by Glover and Francesca Sloane, the show’s debut season stretches across eight episodes, centering on John and Jane Smith, secret agents who pose as a married couple while working for a shadowy corporation. Its blend of comedy and drama offered the potential to categorize it in either genre for awards consideration.

Melrose Place was one of the most popular Primetime soaps from the 1990s. Now, several Melrose Place cast members are getting back together for a reunion, including the man who helped launch the show to success.
Here is who is reuniting, where it will be, and how you can see them later in 2024.
Cast Returning For Melrose Place Reunion
Melrose Place was a spinoff from Beverly Hills, 90210, and started when Grant Show’s Jake Hanson made an appearance on 90210 as a backdoor pilot, luring Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) to Melrose Place to see him again – which is how the pilot took place.
Fans met the colorful characters who lived at Melrose Place, including Dr. Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) and his wife Jane Mancini (Josie Bissett). Andrew Shue played writer Billy Campbell, Courtney Thorne-Smith played Alison Parker, and Doug Savant played gay social worker Matt Fielding. Darren Starr's primetime soap opera "Melrose Place" debuted on July 8, 1992, initially sold as a spinoff of the ultra-hot "Beverly Hills 90210." The series followed the denizens of the titular apartment complex, said to be located at 4616 Melrose in West Hollywood, California. "Melrose Place" was a massive success and was replete with all the sex, angst, and topical interpersonal drama that typically appeared in a TV series produced by Aaron Spelling. The show lasted seven seasons and 226 episodes. "Melrose Place" birthed a spinoff in 1995 called "Models, Inc." and was revived (with a new cast of characters) for an additional season in 2009.
On "Melrose Place," actor and professional soccer player Andrew Shue played Billy Campbell, an aspiring screenwriter, cab driver, ad executive, or newspaperman, depending on what season you're watching. Billy had romantic dalliances and/or married multiple "Melrose" characters, most notably Alison (Courtney Thorne-Smith), but also Amanda (Heather Locklear), Brooke (Kristen Davis), who died tragically,...

Exclusive: Mr. & Mrs. Smith is off to a promising start at Amazon.
The eight-episode series debuted on February 2 to become the No. 1 series on Prime Video in more than 130 countries. It is now one of the Top 5 new series debuts ever for Amazon in terms of total viewers in the U.S.
Amazon, as is typical, remains tight-lipped about the exact viewership data. Next month, there will likely be more numbers available via Nielsen’s streaming charts.
It is also noteworthy that Amazon is specifically touting U.S. viewership, since that is the audience that Nielsen measures. In the past, the streamer has often opted to promote global viewership, which is much harder to quantify without proprietary data from the company itself.
Because of this, it’s expected that the series will make an appearance on those charts, especially because all eight episodes were released at once, which gives it...

Though it’s based on a 2005 movie of the same name, Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith is something that’s increasingly rare these days: an honest-to-goodness TV show. The Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane-created spy thriller understands the required rhythms of its medium very well. Each episode presents a self-contained chapter within the dangerous marriage of John (Glover) and Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) while also subtly forwarding their overall story.
The commitment to the usual TV format also means that Mr. and Mrs. Smith gets to introduce one hell of a roster of guest stars. Save for its finale, every episode of this show features at least one stupendously talented and famous guest star. If you’re wondering who each of these guest stars are or where you’ve previously seen them: don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. What follows is a list of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith cast,...

Plot: Two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? At one point in Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, John and Jane Smith (Donald Glover and Maya Erskine) become infatuated with another couple. Like them, the pair are part of an espionage program in which agents operate undercover as a married couple. Only these other Smiths seem so much more experienced and self-assured. There’s a movie-star swagger to them as they talk casually about the level of danger they’ve faced and their flawless mission record. It’s enough to make John and Jane, relative newbies in the field, feel inadequate.
Glover and Francesca Sloane might have felt a similar insecurity when they were asked to create a series based on Doug Liman’s 2005 box office hit starring two of the biggest movie stars on the planet, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, whose real-life love affair only ensured the film’s pop-cultural impact. The new trailer for Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith has arrived just ahead of the series debut early next month. The series puts several twists on the formula. Firstly, the Doug Liman movie that the series is based on, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, had more of a True Lies-esque plot where a seemingly mundane suburban married couple discover that they both are secret agents and work for rival agencies. Here, the two are on an undercover mission as a married couple, and both may be in over their heads in many ways. Secondly, the two leads — Donald Glover and Maya Erskine — are normally known primarily for comedic roles and are dabbling in more action-oriented fare this time around.

The Rocketeer can be seen as Joe Johnston’s precursor to his introductory entry into the MCU with Captain America: The First Avenger. Both are World War II superheroes and sport a pretty seamless merging of modern blockbuster filmmaking with the classic tone associated with its story. The Rocketeer never quite reached Batman levels of popularity, but the Disney film has been looked back at with fond eyes over the years and amassed a cult following. Years ago, it was reported that Lawmen: Bass Reeves star David Oyelowo was set to star and produce a sequel to The Rocketeer involving a retired Tuskegee airman, which was to be titled The Return of the Rocketeer.
There hasn’t been much in the way of news since the initial announcement, but David Oyelowo gives an update on the project, by way of The Wrap. Oyelowo explained, “We have forward momentum. I know...

The Mr and Mrs Smith trailer from Prime Video shows off a captivating spinoff series with a twist.
If you enjoyed the original 2005 film starring Brad Pitt (Bullet Train) and Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), you’d be pleased to know that all the significant aspects have been maintained.
The series is fearless in deviating from its original idea. This time, the Smiths aren’t secretive spouses. They begin as two miserable strangers who respond to an ad promising a fascinating life – and to enjoy that life, they must change their names to Mr John and Mrs Jane Smith.
They must not only manage the hazards of high-stakes espionage but also the perils of marriage.
The teaser set the tone by showing the upscale spy ambiance, the missions that take the pair worldwide, their constant banter and arguing, and their weekly therapy sessions.

Prime Video has just released the trailer for Donald Glover‘s new project, the action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith. While the series is based on the 2005 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie movie of the same name, the story of the show is actually inverted from the film. Doug Liman’s comedy had Pitt and Jolie’s characters having sort of a True Lies-esque revelation where both realize their spouse has actually been a secret agent. Here, Glover is partnered with Maya Erskine as they’re both undercover as a married couple on a mission.

Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are well known for their comedy work, and they put that to good use in the trailer for Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
The eight-episode series, a reimagining of the 2005 Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt flick, will touch down on Prime Video early next year.
While there are similarities to that movie, the series adaptation is taking things in a different direction.
Carbon copies rarely work, and Glover and Erskine will play "two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan," according to the logline.

The first teaser for Mr. & Mrs. Smith from Amazon’s Prime Video showcases the beginnings of a relationship between its two lead characters — and a lot of bullets.
The series, loosely based on the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has Donald Glover and Maya Erskine playing the two title characters. The show is something of an inverse of the movie: Rather than a married couple discovering each other’s real job as a rival assassin, Glover and Erskine will play two people recruited for a spy agency and told to pose as a couple.

I told you it was absurd. Donald and Erskine already had me tuning in, but now I’m even more excited to join the stealthy couple for some gunplay and bedroom gymnastics.

When Paramount+ swung the axe on Star Trek: Prodigy earlier this year, fans were left questioning whether the completed episodes would ever air.
The Star Trek franchise is popular around the globe, so the very notion that any project would be scrapped with episodes in the can is surprising.
Thankfully for Star Trek: Prodigy fans, we have some good news to report.
Netflix has stepped in to save the day, announcing that Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 will stream later this year.
Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2, which was in production when Paramount+ canceled the series, will debut in 2024.
"Thank you to our incredible 'Star Trek: Prodigy' fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that's always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together," said executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman of the save.

After a break, the Star Trek franchise is returning to Netflix. The global streamer has picked up the animated kids series Star Trek: Prodigy for the U.S. and most international territories in a deal with CBS Studios.
It follows Paramount+’s decision in June to remove a number of originals, including Star Trek: Prodigy, from the platform in a cost-cutting content write-down and not to proceed with the previously commissioned second season of the animated show.
Season 1 of Star Trek: Prodigy, which was previously available on Paramount+, will be released on Netflix later in 2023. The second season, currently in production, will debut on Netflix in 2024. Excluded from the deal are Canada, where Prodigy is carried by CTV.ca and the CTV App, and in SkyShowtime’s European territories: the Nordics, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Central and Eastern Europe.

Munich-based Beta Film, one of Europe’s leading television companies, and seasoned executive Danny Goldman have joined forces to form London-based Omega Global Media, a distribution business focusing on a selection of high-end English-language TV series. "Star Trek: The Next Generation" introduced us to pop culture's truest Space Dad in the form of Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard, a noble, commanding, trustworthy father figure for an entire generation of science fiction-loving dorks. But could you ask Captain Picard about girls? About alcohol? About having a good time? Of course not. That wouldn't be dignified for either of you. That's where Jonathan Frakes' Commander William Riker comes in. The Enterprise's First Officer was younger and a bit cockier (and a lot sillier) than the captain. He was a ladies' man, but one who always seemed respectful. He was always down for a good time, but was ready when duty called. He was charming, but never creepy. Tough, but never macho. Frakes had tapped into something special. He was the Space Uncle we all needed. We aspire to be like Picard. We learn how to live from Riker.

On its face, 1991 cult classic The Rocketeer may have been an action/adventure movie. But, in its heart, it was a lovingly crafted period piece, capturing 1930s Los Angeles in all its glory. For the film’s star, Billy Campbell, that feeling of going back in time when he stepped on the set was one of the things he loved most about making the movie. Even before he started kicking the ball downfield as Jamie Tartt in the Emmy-winning "Ted Lasso," Phil Dunster was kicking around the film and television industry as a working actor. Dunster is one of those faces that you might have already seen in a minor role somewhere and forgotten before he gained more visibility in "Ted Lasso." Who remembers his 2017 appearance, for instance, in Kenneth Branagh's star-studded film adaptation of "Murder on the Orient Express," where he played the father of a girl named Daisy?

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Picard season 3 is now halfway through its daring new story. And like previous installments, “Imposters” does not shy away from the preexisting Star Trek universe. Connections to existing canon run very deep in an hour that not only brings back a surprise The Next Generation alum but also deepens lore from Deep Space Nine.
From a very familiar face from the past to some classic sound effects and more, “Imposters” keeps the easter eggs coming at warp speed. Here are the best callbacks and deep cuts we found in the episode:
Classic “Bridge Sounds”
The episode begins with what sounds like the 1960s classic Enterprise bridge beeps and boops. One might think this is out of place for the 25th century starships of Picard, but showrunner Terry Matalas has clarified that the Starfleet of this era is in a retro period when it comes to design.

This post contains spoilers for the second episode of "Star Trek: Picard" season 3.
Science fiction, like so many well-hewn genres, is nothing without a few archetypes to lean back on. There's of course, the chosen one, the grizzled guardian, and the elusive soldier of fortune. The latter is probably the most difficult to get right, even after "Star Wars" pretty much created the perfect template for the type with Harrison Ford's Han Solo. There's a lot going on in a character like this: not just latent sex appeal, but a reckless competence and hard-earned skill in battle. Hubris too, and a sense of self-preservation. It's a difficult cocktail to get right, and it's why so many sci-fi properties routinely fail to recreate that magic themselves.
"Star Trek" is one such property that's made an attempt — actually, a series of attempts — at recreating Han Solo's popularity. If we're being 100% honest with ourselves though,...

Narvik (Kampen om Narvik – Hitlers første nederlag) is a Norwegian film directed by Erik Skjoldbjaerg starring Kristine Hartgen, Carl Martin Eggesbø and Henrik Mestad.

Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood was so eager to cameo that he agreed to appear as an unrecognizable fish-man — but at least he got to be beamed up!
Other guest stars succeed so well that they become near-permanent fixtures, like Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan, and John de Lancie as Q. Equally poignant, sometimes, are the ones that show up only once and put in an unforgettable performance. Some of them change a story's trajectory or make a lasting effect on a main character's life. Some are terrifying. And some break our hearts. These are 13 of the best one-off guest characters in "Star Trek: The Next Generation." They're not all played by big names.

When the three season mission ended, its next iteration was on Saturday morning television, where, once again, the writers and production team refused to dumb things down.

Daughter Lindsie Chrisley is now sharing an update on her parents’ upcoming plans. “My parents regularly say, and I believe they’ve said on their podcast as well, that at this time it’s basically living every day like it’s your last, enjoying the moment, spending time with their kids that are in Nashville,” the Coffee Convos co-host shared with People on December 19. “Of course, I’m spending time with my parents over the phone because I also have shared custody [with my ex-husband William Campbell]. So I don’t have the luxury of being able to just pick up and go to Nashville and be there until January,...

Billy Campbell was “thrilled” to be able to step back into Thadiun Okona’s shoes — or at least his voice — when he reprised his Next Generation character on Star Trek: Prodigy. Fans first met the “lovable rogue” in “The Outrageous Okona” in 1988, and now, he’ll be crossing paths with the Prodigy crew in the November 17 episode. Below, Campbell shares why he was happy to take up the role again, what’s going on with Okona now, and more. How did you returning to a Trek show, especially in this capacity, come about? Billy Campbell: They reached out. I think they had the notion to include some what they call legacy characters. There may or may not be more in the works, I can’t divulge. But yeah, they reached out and I was absolutely thrilled. I was thrilled to begin with, to be part of the Star Trek universe...

Exclusive: Bernie Ecclestone has slammed Formula 1 documentaries currently on the market and said audiences will prefer the “reality” of his upcoming series Lucky!, which Deadline can reveal has added a trio of broadcast and streaming partners.
Dazn, Discovery+ and Star+/ESPN Latin America have boarded the eight-part program, which comes from Senna producer Manish Pandey and tells the story of the development of Formula 1 through the eyes of the nonagenarian media mogul. It’s set to launch this December following a production process that began during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, and its producers have spent the past few months successfully shopping it directly to buyers.
Global sports streamer Dazn acquired rights in Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Italy, while Discovery+ grabbed rights in the UK and Ireland. Disney-owned ESPN LatAm acquired rights for its Star+ streaming service and ESPN channels in the region. Other deals are known to be close to completion.
