Fans were shocked to hear that “NCIS: Hawai’i,” the newest series in CBS’ “NCIS” franchise, had been canceled after three seasons last week. At a press briefing in Los Angeles, CBS executives said the decision came down to a balance of cost and ratings, as well as cohesion across the network’s 2024-2025 schedule.
“It is incumbent on us to always keep the schedule fresh, keep momentum going. We had to make some really tough choices this year,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach told reporters. “Everything came back [from the Hollywood strikes] really strong, but ultimately we have to look at the cohesiveness of the schedule flow. We have to evaluate the financials and the performance overall, and we make tough decisions.”
When asked whether there was a chance of un-cancellation, as happened when CBS reversed its decision to end “S.W.A.T.” on two separate occasions, Reisenbach said no.

After three seasons, NCIS: Hawai’i has been cancelled by CBS. While the show was on the bubble, Deadline says it’s still a little surprising as there had been talks of an “abbreviated fourth and final season,” but that would have come with a massive budget cut.
NCIS: Hawai’i starred Vanessa Lachey as Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent-in-Charge of the NCIS: Hawaiʻi Field Office. The finale of the third season, which will now be a series finale, will air on May 6th. Sources say that while it wasn’t meant to be a series finale, the episode won’t end on a major cliffhanger that will leave fans frustrated. With just three seasons under its belt, this places NCIS: Hawai’i has the shortest series in the franchise, following NCIS: New Orleans with 7 seasons and NCIS: Los Angeles with 14 seasons. The Story: A goofball gym teacher (Mark Harmon) is forced to teach a remedial English class over the summer.
The Players: Starring: Mark Harmon, Kirstie Alley, Dean Cameron, Courtney Thorne-Smith & Shawnee Smith. Music by Danny Elfman. Directed by Carl Reiner.
The History: Hollywood spent a couple of years trying to make Mark Harmon happen as a movie star. Fresh off an arc on “St. Elsewhere” which infamously had his character contract AIDS from a one-night stand, his career was red hot. For a while, he was seriously considered to replace Don Johnson on “Miami Vice” after contract negotiations fell through, and in 1987-88, we got a bunch of starring vehicles that would try him out in a variety of genres to see if one would stick. He did action in The Presidio (even doing his own stunts – although the film was stolen by co-star Sean Connery), drama in Stealing Home,...

Well, when we spoke with Rocky Carroll, he did say that “procedurals—and this procedural in particular—are very reminiscent of what Westerns meant to television in the ’60s and ’70s,” so why not bring a bit of a Western vibe with some casting into the world of NCIS? Robert Taylor, who starred on the western Longmire, has been cast in the recurring role of Gibbs’ hard-nosed father, Jackson, in the upcoming prequel NCIS: Origins. Austin Stowell will be playing the young version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, with Mark Harmon, who starred for 19 seasons as the character on NCIS, narrating and executive producing the series. Breann White; Wes & Alex Photo Daniel Bellomy and Caleb Martin Foote will also recur, both as special agents at Nis. Bellomy’s Granville “Granny” Dawson is a young probationary agent, who’...

With the April 15 episode of “NCIS” on CBS, the overall franchise — including its multiple spinoffs — clocks its 1,000th episode. That’s a milestone for all of the associated series, but the mothership show accounts for nearly half of those, and is edging ever closer to its own once-unfathomable benchmark: “NCIS” O.G. is at 463 episodes and counting, with the 500-show mark hardly out of reach, especially now that the show has just been renewed for its 22nd season. There’s no end in sight, with the top-rated drama series having proven its ability to withstand cast changes, such as the loss of Mark Harmon, the show’s original team leader, in 2021. (Gary Cole tagged in as Harmon was departing during Season 19.)

S.W.A.T. is getting another season after all. After previously announcing that the now-airing seventh season would be the show’s last, CBS has had a change of heart and picked up S.W.A.T. Season 8.
The renewal is the latest twist in the S.W.A.T. saga. The show was first canceled back in May 2023 after six seasons. CBS then reversed course and ordered season 7, which was billed as the last for the show. The series finale was set to air May 17. That episode will now serve as the season 7 finale, with an unconfirmed number of episodes to air in the 2024-25 broadcast season.

In case you somehow missed it, the 1,000th episode of the NCISverse is upcoming.
That will be NCIS Season 21 Episode 7, airing on CBS at 9 p.m. Monday, April 15.
The event was heralded by an Entertainment Tonight special hosted by Kevin Frazier, which aired April 8 on CBS. It's likely still available on streaming service Paramount+.
NCIS has been on 21 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles lasted 14 seasons, and NCIS: New Orleans seven. NCIS: Hawaii is in its third season, while NCIS: Sydney recently finished its first season. You do the math to get to 999.
So, as the NCISverse's 1,000th episode approaches, would now be the peak for the franchise, with two spinoffs airing this season and two new spinoffs planned for next season?
Not at all, although this certainly could be seen as the golden age of NCIS Recycling, which admittedly is at least in vogue now.

CBS finally made its NCIS Season 22 announcement and it’s all good news.
As NCIS Season 21 winds down, the network had to decide if enough viewers were tuning in to continue ordering new episodes.
Amy Reisenbach, the president of CBS Entertainment, issued a statement in which she discussed NCIS and The Neighborhood.
For NCIS fans who don’t follow The Neighborhood, it is one of the top comedies on television, and it airs ahead of NCIS on Monday nights.
“The Neighborhood and NCIS are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” Reisenbach stated.
“They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season,” Reisenbach finished.
CBS also crowed about the success that NCIS continues to have at the network. According to their press release, NCIS has been a top 20 series for 18 of the first 20 full seasons. That’s extremely impressive.

Many NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i fans may be in for a shock. Today, CBS announced that the current seasons are close to ending.
The NCISverse celebrated April 8 with a primetime special about the first 1,000 episodes. This includes content from NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Hawai’i.
It’s a huge milestone for the franchise, and many new episodes are still coming- just not this spring.
As a reminder, two Hollywood strikes caused delays in production for most scripted shows. This means shorter seasons for the hit dramas.
NCIS Season 21 has only 10 episodes, with the seventh airing on April 15. That’s the night the franchise debuts its 1,000th NCIS episode.
NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3 also has only 10 episodes, and Vanessa Lachey recently celebrated filming ending.

Sean Murray now holds the distinction of being the longest-running NCIS cast member. However, despite being the stepson of the show’s creator, Donald Bellisario, he still does not feel very secure in his job.
That seems so unlikely as on Monday, CBS will be celebrating the 1,000 episode of the NCISVerse. Yet, he remains uncertain.
Why doesn’t the actor who portrays geeky Agent Tim McGee “feel safe” in his long-time role?

Just days before its debut, Fallout looks to be assured a second season thanks to a $25 million tax credit from California.
Officially, Amazon has not said yet that the Prime Video series is coming back, but, with some hints from executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan recently, it is pretty clear the money is doing the talking here. Receiving one of the largest allocations ever from the program for a relocating series, the post-apocalyptic drama is among a dozen shows awarded $152 million in incentives.
Primetime prequel NCIS: Origins, the Noah Wyle starring The Pitt, plus the Ryan Murphy executive produced Dr. Odyssey starring Joshua Jackson, and Grotesquerie starring Emmy winner Niecy Nash also were awarded credits through the California Film Commission run $330 million annual program – as you can see below.
Set to premiere on April 11, Fallout, based on the best-selling video game franchise, is almost as big a get...

When Mark Harmon left NCIS, it seemed to be a role no one could replace. However, the show brought in Gary Cole to be the new team leader and he seemed to slip into the role perfectly. However, Cole said things were not going to be easy for Alden Parker with his new team.
Here is what Cole had to say about replacing Mark Harmon.
Gary Cole On Replacing Mark Harmon On NCIS
Gary Cole was a good choice to replace Mark Harmon on NCIS. While the long-running, popular procedural has seen characters come and go, Mark Harmon’s Jethro Leroy Gibbs seemed irreplaceable. However, the show made good on replacing him when they signed Gary Cole to take on the role of Alden Parker.
This change in leadership for the NCIS team came in 2021 when Harmon left the show and stepped aside for a new person to take over the team leader role.
