Which makes the Christmas antics of the Rodriguez family in the easygoing and likable comedy "Nothing Like the Holidays" a solid addition to an audience-friendly genre that includes "Home for the Holidays," "The Family Stone" and the current fan favorite "Four Christmases." The ethnic twist from director Aldredo De Villa ("Adrift in Manhattan") and writers Alison Swan, Ted Perkins-Lopez and Rick Najera is placing the story around the home of a Puerto Rican family in Chicago's working-class Humboldt Park neighborhood. Granted, the Mexican soap opera-inspired "Ugly Betty" is a hit sitcom for ABC and its lead actress America Ferrera has become a recognizable face. Yet, it remains rare for Latinos to receive the full spotlight treatment, especially in a mainstream comedy like "Nothing Like the Holidays.
