“I was raped by Harvey Weinstein here at Cannes,” Italian actress Asia Argento told a shocked crowd at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. “I was 21 years old. The festival was his hunting ground. I want to make a prediction: Harvey Weinstein will never be welcomed here ever again. He will live in disgrace, shunned by a film community that once embraced him and covered up for his crimes.”
When it comes to Weinstein, currently serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape, Argento was certainly right. Five years after the #MeToo movement kicked off an avalanche of revelations of abuse and assault, the global film community has washed its hands of the once all-powerful producer. A Weinstein comeback is not in the cards.
But what of the climate, the “hunting grounds” of the international film festivals? As Argento and others have pointed out, for years...

Rich McHugh is speaking out against NBC News just a few weeks after leaving the company’s investigative unit. McHugh, a producer for NBC News, worked with Ronan Farrow on the investigation into Harvey Weinstein’s history of sexual abuse and harassment for an NBC News story, but he says the network effectively killed the investigation.
“At a critical juncture in our reporting on Harvey Weinstein, as we were about to interview a woman with a credible allegation of rape against him, I was told not to do the interview and ordered to stand down, thus effectively killing the story,” McHugh said in the statement to CNN.
McHugh maintains NBC told him to stop the story three days before he was set to interview a credible source. The producer alleges NBC ordered him “not to interview” the woman with rape allegations against Weinstein and “to stand down on the story altogether.

Updated: Disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein was formally arrested and charged Friday with rape and other acts of sexual misconduct, the latest development in the stunning downfall of a powerful producer whose taste and bullying persona once defined independent film.
Weinstein’s bond was set by a Manhattan court at $10 million. He paid $1 million in a cashier’s check to post bail, and agreed not to travel outside of New York State and Connecticut without advance permission from the court. He also agreed to wear a Gps-enabled monitoring device.
Wearing a dark jacket and clutching a small stack of books, Weinstein, 66, turned himself in to police in downtown New York shortly before 7:30 a.m., at a precinct besieged by reporters and news cameras. An hour later, just before 9 a.m., he left the police station in handcuffs.
Shortly afterward, he appeared in a Manhattan courthouse in the company of his lawyer,...

In 1995, Harvey Weinstein tried to give Mira Sorvino a massage, chasing her around the room when she rebuffed him. In 1996, he sexually assaulted rising French actress Judith Godrèche in a hotel room; a year later, he had another incident with Rose McGowan. In 2008, actress Louisette Geiss fled a hotel room where Weinstein tried to get her to watch him masturbate. In 2010, he tricked another French actress, Emma de Caunes, into visiting a hotel room where he exposed himself and tried to get her lie down.
In all of these accounts, Weinstein seemed to think that the relative privacy of the hotel room provided him with a sanctuary in which he could perform deplorable acts on whomever he pleased, but the context was more specific than that: In every instance, he was at a film festival.
