- When starring as twelve-year-old Tootie on The Facts of Life (1979) she was actually nine years old.
- Her mother Chip Fields also played her mother on The Facts of Life and Living Single.
- In 1994, the producers of Living Single (1993) wrote her real-life breast reduction surgery into the script.
- Graduated from Pepperdine University in 1993 with a degree in communications.
- She survived the troubled first season of The Facts of Life (1979), when six cast members, including Molly Ringwald, were cut. At the beginning of the second season, Nancy McKeon joined the surviving cast of Charlotte Rae, Lisa Whelchel Mindy Cohn, and Fields. The show improved in the ratings, and the storylines with the five cast members won loyal audiences. However, the producers periodically kept adding cast members, such as a then-unknown George Clooney, to try to boost ratings. Even though, Fields liked Clooney, she complained that the producers learned nothing from the troubled first season and that they should have focused on the cast's core group (Rae, Whelchel, Fields, Cohn, McKeon), instead of adding and firing cast members.
