Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” remains one of the most beloved classic rock songs of the 1980s. Bon Jovi’s co-writer said he wrote it in a place that reminded him of an infamous scene from a horror film. Fascinatingly, the lyrics of an earlier Bon Jovi song partially inspired “You Give Love a Bad Name.”
Bon Jovi’s ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ has a connection to Kiss
Desmond Child is a professional songwriter who became famous for working with classic rock acts like Alice Cooper (“Poison”), Aerosmith (“Dude Looks Like a Lady”), and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (“I Hate Myself for Lovin’ You”), as well as pop singers such as Katy Perry (“Waking Up in Vegas”), Ricky Martin (“Livin’ la Vida Loca”), and Ava Max (“Kings & Queens”). One of his most famous songs is Kiss’ disco/hard rock smash “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.

Award-winning Colombian director-producer Simon Brand and Miami-based media executive producer Daniel Eilemberg have joined forces with the founders of Emmy-winning Imaginer Films, Julio César and Laura Franco, to launch Clover Studios, a new production services company in Colombia.
The new enterprise is in response to Colombia’s phenomenal growth as a major production center, driven by its competitive production incentives and flourishing creative community.

Splashy and flashy (but not really trashy), Palm Royale on Apple TV+ fits easily into the ranks of high-gloss, high-concept, female-driven dramas that have enjoyed a Golden Age on premium streaming channels this past decade.
Recent series like Bad Sisters (also on Apple TV+) and Max's Big Little Lies drew a substantial audience with a combination of star-studded ensemble casts, heavy themes, and plots from best-selling domestic thrillers like those written by author Liane Moriarty.
Palm Royale ticks many of those boxes (it's based on the 2018 novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel), but instead of sexual violence and trauma, it brings big laughs and a soapy jewel-box mystery to the female-centric limited series tablescape.
Palm Royale's opening credit sequence immediately places the series in time and taste by evoking Valley of The Dolls and James Bond with its graphic animation.

The Ides of March were marked this year by a three-way race among high profile filmmakers – Peter Farrelly, Doug Liman and Guy Ritchie – with original streaming film and TV series debuts across Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Ricky Martin is the star of Apple TV+’s Palm Royale and has come a long way in the acting field, not forgetting his beginnings in Mexico.
While appearing on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked Martin if General Hospital is where he cut his teeth acting.
“I did a lot of theater in Mexico before, and I did TV series’ in Mexico, and even film in Mexico,” he said. “So I would give Mexico a lot of credit for my preparation.”
After leaving the boyband Menudo, Martin got an opportunity to star in the musical comedy Mamá Ama el Rock in Mexico City. The singer would then be offered a role in the TelevisaUnivision telenovela Alcanzar Una Estrella II, where he played a member of a pop band. Following the success of the series, Martin would also star in a film based on the show.

Ricky Martin spilled on all things related to his love life.
The 52-year-old actor and musician split from his longtime husband Jwan Yosef in late 2023. While on Watch What Happens Live this week, Ricky revealed if he was seeing anyone or looking for love on dating apps like Raya.
He also reflected on the sort of DMs that he receives after opening up about his foot fetish in an interview. Ricky broached more topics, as well. He described his first kiss, revealed his first celebrity crush and described himself as a lover in three words.
He even weighed in on the age-old question: Does size matter?

Singer Ricky Martin shared that his father, Enrique Martin Negroni, encouraged him to come out as gay and added that his professional team encouraged him to continue concealing his sexuality.
“‘This is gonna be the end of your career’,” he recalled being told, reports people.com.
“You don’t have to tell the world. Your friends know, your family know. Why do you need to stand in front of the camera and talk about it?”
While his team “didn’t understand the importance” of coming out, the singer’s father did, especially after the ‘Maria’ hitmaker welcomed his twin sons, Matteo and Valentino, in 2008.
“He said, ‘What are you gonna (do), teach your kids to lie? You gotta be open. You gotta go out… I want to help you. How can we do this?'” said the Grammy winner.
“And I’m like, ‘All right, Dad, I’m working on it.

She’s joined in the show’s ensemble cast by a couple of Oscar winners — Laura Dern and Allison Janney — and Grammy winner Ricky Martin. What did it take to attract a cast like that? Well, according to Janney, it was the fact that Palm Royale didn’t play like a standard sitcom. One family member played a key role in Ricky Martin‘s decision to publicly come out as gay.
The 52-year-old music icon became a breakout star in the ’90s with the success of singles like “Livin’ the Vida Loca.” It was years after he became a household name that Ricky opened up about his sexuality.
In a new interview, he explained that the decision was against the advice of his team, who were concerned that being openly gay would hurt him professionally. However, he had the utmost support from one family member.

While on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, Ricky explained that his dad, a psychologist, told him that he had to be honest, especially after he welcomed twin sons Valentino and Matteo.

Striking a tonal balance between drama and comedy can be difficult. It’s even harder when the series must adhere to a specific place and time. Yet Palm Royale, which debuts on March 20th on Apple TV+, makes a strong play for the Mad Men demographic. Equal parts stylish, melodramatic, and witty, there’s a lot to like about Palm Royale. However, even with one of the greatest casts ever assembled for a television show on paper, one cannot help but feel disappointed. There are fun performances, but its premise and story feel antiquated in 2024.

Enlightened was more than just the title of the HBO TV series Laura Dern starred in from 2011-2013. It’s also the state of being the actress and her future producing partner, Jayme Lemons, found themselves in after Dern served as an executive producer and Lemons a first-time producer on the comedy-drama.

“Why do you want to be where you’re not wanted?”
Posed by Linda Shaw (Laura Dern) — a proud hippie of the ’60s recently accused of “dressing like an indigent Mennonite railway priestess” — this question rests at the center of “Palm Royale,” alongside its recipient, Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig). The 40-something new kid in town insists to everyone she meets they use her married name, D’ellacourt, in the hopes its notoriety around Palm Beach will help hasten her acceptance there. Maxine wants nothing more than to be a member of high society, rubbing elbows with the movers and shakers at South Florida’s glam parties and opulent benefits, and she knows looking the part is just as important as living it. To her benefit: She is, in fact, a D’ellacourt. She is not, however, as wealthy as the minted moniker suggests, which proves a recurring impediment in her...

Abe Sylvia‘s new Apple TV+ series stars Oscar winner Allison Janney, Oscar winner Laura Dern, Oscar and nine-time Emmy Award nominee Kristen Wiig, and latin music icon Ricky Martin. But the true star of “Palm Royale” may just be the one and only Carol Burnett. O.K., maybe that’s an exaggeration as Burnett’s character is in a coma for the first three episodes, but it was the first subject we broached with “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” screenwriter and he was game, noting that Burnett is “my favorite subject.”

“When you first come to Palm Beach, you think you’re the oldest and the richest. But then you realize you are the youngest and poorest.”
Everybody has goals. For new resident Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig), hers is to enter the world of Palm Beach high society circa 1969. She dreams of joining the Palm Royale, the most exclusive country club in the area. It’s the sort of exclusive place filled with swimming pools, galas and daytime martinis that feeds into the competitive charity season. It’s the time of year where the wealthy women in the area show off their wallets and organizational skills to vie for the coveted title of “Queen of the Season.”
All this just to be mentioned in the local society papers. After all, “At the Palm Royale, the more you gave, the more you got.”

Long before Instagram stories and TikTok videos were a thing, gossip magazines and television allowed everyday people to feel a connection to the wealthy and beautiful. In real life, few are brave enough to elbow their way onto the A-list, but others are bold enough to demand a seat at the table — which brings us to “Palm Royale.” Based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel, “Mr. & Mrs. American Pie,” and adapted for television by Abe Sylvia, Apple TV+’s new 1960s-set comedy, “Palm Royale” follows bottle-blonde Palm Beach transplant Maxine Simmons (a perfectly cast Kristen Wiig), who is determined to craft a glitzy and glamorous life for herself, even if it means bending the rules a smidge. Wildy outrageous and amusing, “Palm Royale” suggests that you might get more than you requested if you’re delusional enough to go after what you want.

Apple TV+’s Palm Royale may be set in the late 1960s, but its greatest pleasures seem tailor-made for the age of the internet. Every shot of a socialite smirking over the rim of a cocktail glass plays like the perfect reaction Gif. The bitchy bon mots might as well be engineered for portioning into TikTok-sized soundbites, the outrageous plot twists for drawing gasps in the group chat. And the aesthetic — oh, the aesthetic! In a repudiation of the “quiet luxury” greige, this vision of America’s elite is awash in shimmering jewel tones and Lilly Pulitzer brights. You could build entire mood boards around the hippie-chic bookstore or the baroque mansion. I myself lost a good 20 minutes Googling between episodes for cat-eye sunglasses just like the ones featured on Maxine (Kristen Wiig).
But the eye-popping style is as good as the show gets; the fun ends where the surface does.

Ricky Martin had the support of his 15-year-old twin sons at the premiere of his new Apple TV+ series Palm Royale!
The 52-year-old singer and actor was joined by his sons Valentino and Matteo at the premiere on Thursday (March 14) in Beverly Hills, Calif.
Ricky welcomed his twin boys into the world as a single dad with help from a surrogate back in 2008. He also shares five-year-old daughter Lucia and four-year-old son Renn with his ex-husband Jwan Yosef.
The entertainer has said that his kids are his biggest critics.
“They tell me, ‘Dad, yesterday was better than today. What’s going on with your singing?’ They are very honest, and I appreciate it,” he told Access Hollywood in November 2020. “[They say], ‘I like the dance that you did yesterday. Today was a little bit weak, Dad.’ This is what’s happening in this house.”

The former Saturday Night Live star is back on the small screen in the Apple TV+ show, set in Palm Beach high society in 1969. Wiig stars as Maxine Simmons, an ambitious woman who tries to scheme her way into the exclusive, and often treacherous, world.
“I just tried to do my best Chattanooga,” Wiig jokingly told The Hollywood Reporter of her pronounced accent in the series at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday. “Practiced in the mirror.”
Wiig also serves as an executive producer on the project and appears alongside a star-studded cast including Allison Janney, Laura Dern (who is also an EP), Carol Burnett, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas and Kaia Gerber. Besides the star power, a stand-out element of the series is its visuals, courtesy of production designer...

Young Miko is taking me for a drive to Piñones, the northeastern Puerto Rico hot spot known for its mesmerizing ocean views and long history as a stronghold of Afro-Caribbean culture. “I knew I had to bring you here,” she tells me.
