One of the largest radio companies in the U.S., Audacy, said Sunday that it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after reaching a deal with its debt holders to restructure.
Audacy owns some of the most high-profile radio stations in the U.S., including L.A.’s infamous alternative station Kroq, Kcbs and Knx, as well as New York’s 1010 Wins news station, Wcbs talk station, and Wfan, the country’s first sports radio station.
Audacy owns more than 200 radio stations across the country, and also operates dozens of digital radio channels. The company also has partnerships with companies like Warner Bros. Discovery and Bloomberg LP.
Audacy was created after the merger of Entercom and CBS Radio in 2017, when CBS was looking to exit its non-tv businesses.
In a statement Sunday, the company said the deal with debt holders will reduce its debt load by about 80%, from $1.9 billion to $350 million.

Jamie Foxx might not be gracing any red carpets at the moment, but he’s still on everyone’s mind. Et’s Kevin Frazier spoke with Foxx’s co-star, Porscha Coleman, at the 2023 BET Awards, where she shared a hopeful update on the 55-year-old’s hospitalization in Atlanta, Georgia.
“I’ve talked to people very close to Foxx, [he] is doing well. Representatives for actor Jamie Foxx are pushing back claims that his hospital stay stemmed from getting a Covid vaccine, saying such allegations are “completely inaccurate.”
The claim that Jamie Foxx was forced to go to the hospital due to reactions from a Covid shot come from, not surprisingly, those without any actual evidence to back it up. Case in point: A.J. Benza, the gossip columnist who might best be remembered as the guy who swung at “Stuttering” John Melendez and made Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate scream like a mama monkey. At best, it’s one of the great moments of Howard Stern’s E! show; at worst, it gives another glimpse into the sort of person Benza is.
On Drew Pinsky’s Ask Dr. Drew show, Benza said a source “in the room” told him that Jamie Foxx had been admitted after his Covid shot, which left him “partially paralyzed and blind.

Actor Tom Sizemore, best known for his role in “Saving Private Ryan,” is in a Los Angeles hospital in critical condition after suffering a brain aneurysm.

Sizemore has a history of substance abuse problems — including addiction to cocaine, heroin and methamphetamines — that began when he was 15. After struggling with Dr. Drew Pinsky’s program for 10 years, Sizemore appeared on the third season of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” in 2010, after which Sizemore achieved sobriety. Pinsky cited Sizemore as one of the show’s biggest successes.
In 2013, he told “Access Hollywood” that his “Heat” co-star Robert De Niro joined his family in an intervention to get him on the right track.

Former CNN anchor Brian Stelter says the demise of live programming on Hln marks the end of companionship TV in an op-ed published in The Atlantic Friday.
“The demise of Hln, CNN’s 40-year-old sister station, which will stop airing original newscasts next week, deserves attention not just because it marks the end of an era but because it’s a reminder of how eras in media actually end. Before death comes obsolescence,” Stelter wrote. “Viewers tuning in for companionship may find only the faintest echo of what once was. The TV will still be on, but all the warmth is gone.”
Though Stelter notes that “Media Winter” consistently brings layoffs and cost-cutting measures across the industry — this year that list includes CNN, who recently laid off hundreds of staffers, The Washington Post, NPR and Gannett newspaper chain — he sees cutting Hln’s live programming as “fixture of cable television [that went] belly up.

The lawsuit between Kail Lowry and Briana DeJesus may be over, but the animosity between the former Teen Mom 2 co-stars isn’t.
As Monsters and Critics reported last year, Kail filed a defamation of character lawsuit against Briana amid their years-long feud.
The lawsuit was eventually dismissed by a judge who ruled in Briana’s favor, and Kail was ordered to pay Briana’s attorney fees totaling more than 120,000.
Tuesday night saw the premiere of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. During the first episode, Briana’s storyline focused heavily on her lawsuit being dismissed and her subsequent lawsuit victory party.
Now, Kail is accusing Briana of being “obsessed” with her, and, according to Kail, MTV used the lawsuit as a way to boost ratings.

Bertram “Bert” Fields, the larger-than-life entertainment lawyer whose roster of star clients and studios spoke to a penchant for doling out legal threats with a rhetorical flourish, along with a capacity for winning lucrative settlements, has died at his Malibu home, his rep confirmed to Variety. He was 93.
Fields thrived on the notion that he never lost a trial, and even if the Perry Mason-like reputation wasn’t exactly true, he was a relentless litigator who defined some of the industry’s most heralded cases of the 1980s and ’90s, with clients that included Warren Beatty, Tom Cruise, the Beatles, Edward G. Robinson, Michael Jackson, Rupert Murdoch and, at one time or another, just about all of the major studios.
Cruise said in a statement, “Bert Fields was a gentleman; an extraordinary human being. He had a powerful intellect, a keen wit, and charm that made one enjoy every minute of his company.
