The supernatural horror film It Lives Inside, which stars Megan Suri of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever, didn’t draw in many viewers when it reached theatres last Friday. It had an opening weekend of $2.6 million and finished in seventh place on the top 10. Maybe it will do better when it reaches home video – and we can confirm that Distribution Solutions, a division of Alliance Entertainment, will be giving the film a DVD release on November 7th. Copies are available for pre-order at This Link. We don’t have any information on a Blu-ray or 4K release at this time, but Amazon is also accepting pre-orders for the Prime Video digital release.
It’s a shame It Lives Inside didn’t have better box office, as it was good enough to earn an 8/10 review from JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols. That review can be read Here. The film...

New Delhi, Aug 24 (Ians) As the 28 per cent Gst on online gaming continues to hammer the sector, Vikram Sahay, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, said on Thursday that gaming companies should innovate and develop more games based on our culture, like Ramayana and Mahabharata, to increase their reach among the masses.
Addressing the second edition of the Idgs Gaming Conclave, organised by the Indian Digital Gaming Society (Idgs) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (Cii), he told the industry players to develop games on Indian culture.
“Let us realise the value of our culture and develop games that can go international. Something like Ramayana and Mahabharata, if we can convert them into games, it will be great,” Sahay said.
“We are a big visible global player and we are making a difference in this industry. We are trying to bring in education, skilling, and...

Neon’s second trailer for It Lives Inside is incredibly creepy without being too spoiler-ish. Written and directed by Bishal Dutta, the PG-13 horror film is a unique twist on a demonic possession story.
“It Lives Inside emerged as an image: a kid on a bike, riding through Rockwellian suburbs. It’s right out of an early Amblin film. But what if this kid was escaping a puja, her school outfit wrapped in an ornate dupatta? For me, that image spoke to the duality I felt growing up as a first-generation immigrant in America. ‘Where do I belong? Which country is my home? Which world is ultimately mine?'” explained Dutta.
The cast includes Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay, Gage Marsh, Beatrice Kitsos, and Betty Gabriel.
Get Out‘s Raymond Mansfield and Sean McKittrick served as producers. Edward H. Hamm Jr, Jameson Parker, Arielle Boisvert, and Shawn Williamson executive produce.

"The Pishach doesn't kill you right away... it feeds on you slowly." Neon has debuted another official trailer for the horror film titled It Lives Inside, a strong feature debut from filmmaker Bishal Dutta. It premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival where it won the Midnight Audience Award. Sam is desperate to fit in at school, rejecting her Indian culture & family to be like everyone else. When a mythological demonic spirit latches onto her former best friend, she must come to terms with her own heritage in order to defeat it. The initial inspiration emerged from the filmmaker's experiences of being born in India, and raised in America. The story is based on a Hindu demonic legend and a very personal family story from Dutta's grandfather. Starring Megan Suri as Samidha, Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Betty Gabriel, Vik Sahay, and Gage Marsh. This looks utterly terrifying, with some seriously...

American horror films featuring demons generally have a Christian bent, so a Hindu spin on this subgenre is enticing for its potential to breathe new life into well-trodden terrain. But while Bishal Dutta’s It Lives Inside follows through on its promise of representation in terms of its cast full of Indian and Indian American actors, the film’s attempts at actual cultural specificity are about as nuanced as a “very special episode” of a Disney sitcom.
It Lives Inside offers a brief peek at Hindu religious festivities inside Samidha’s (Megan Suri) house, and Sam’s loving mother, Poorna (Neeru Bajwa), primarily speaks to her daughter in Hindi. One gets a sense that the girl’s feelings of shame are tied to her sense of otherness (she’s one of only two Indian Americans at her high school), but otherwise there’s little to distinguish Sam from the disaffected...

Neon hasn’t announced a specific release date for their supernatural horror film It Lives Inside, but they have unveiled a trailer that gives a good idea of what we can expect to see in this movie when it does make its way out into the world. You can take a look at that trailer in the embed above.
As you can see in the trailer, It Lives Inside received some very positive reviews after screening at the SXSW film festival.
The film stars Megan Suri of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever and drops her into the following unnerving story: Sam is desperate to fit in at school, rejecting her Indian culture and family to be like everyone else. Whena mythological demonic spirit latches onto her former best friend, she must come to terms with herheritage in order to defeat it.

Mumbai, India, Apr 17, 2023 – (Acn Newswire) – The Asia Video Industry Association's (Avia) Future of Video India conference opened to a full house with a keynote conversation with Shri Apurva Chandra, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (Mib). Secretary Chandra stated that with Ott, Indian content has become more accessible and more acceptable to a global audience. “Quality of content has always been very good in India, but now it is easier for Indian content to travel across the world. Ott has helped it in a big way,” said Chandra. He also reiterated the need for Ott to continue with a soft touch approach, as the three tier self- regulatory system has been working well. While there were concerns that light touch regulation has led to less desirable content, he remained of the view that the industry needed to be more self-aware so that the government need not step in. Chandra also...

Zachary Levi isn’t giving up on the movie followup to his NBC series Chuck, and he says creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak are on board.
Levi starred in the spy dramedy from 2007 to 2012 as Chuck Bartowski, an average guy who was dragged into the world of the the CIA and Nsa to take on dangerous criminals and other threats. He’s been campaigning for an expansion of the Chuck universe since the show ended, but he recently said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that it might actually be coming to fruition.
“I’ve been trying to make a Chuck movie since before we even finished the show. I saw the writing on the wall, I saw a lot of the streaming stuff starting to pop up. I saw a lot of like, well, people are doing, you know, like, you know, Zach Braff, I think was crowdfunding.

Writer/Director Bishal Dutta refreshingly gives a new spin on demonic possession for his feature film debut, It Lives Inside. Dutta uses a familiar framework of teen horror as an accessible introduction to underexplored mythology exacerbated by a cultural divide and adolescence. While Dutta wears his influences on his sleeves, the gnarly new demon and the complexities of its characters mark this director as one to watch.
Like most teens, Sam (Megan Suri) wants to fit in at school, so much so that she’s tried to distance herself from her cultural background as an Indian-American teen. This includes distancing herself from former childhood friend Tamira (Mohana Krishnan), who’s taken to carrying a strange jar around, to avoid staring looks and hushed whispers. Sam’s insecurities spike when a frazzled Tamira corners her in the locker room, begging for help with a parasitic evil. In a moment of disbelief and anger,...

Holy hell this year’s SXSW Film Festival isn’t messing around.
The official lineup has just been revealed and it’s a banger, starting off with a special screening of Evil Dead Rise!
In addition, they have several prominent horror titles that will premiere as part of the Midnighters program, including the Sundance hit Talk to Me and the surprise sequel to Becky, The Wrath of Becky!
“Midnighters don’t need to be exclusively horror films, they just need to perk you up and get your blood pumping,” said Peter Hall, Film & TV Festival Programmer. “That’s why this year’s SXSW Midnighters class is a mix of horror, bone-crunching action, and mind-melting genre hybrids. Some of them introduce new, terrifying lore to the canon of suburban horror movies, some will worm around in your brain like thoughts you can’t shake, but all of them will make you...

Industry executives, producers and screenwriters got into the details of adapting literary material into film scripts at a Film Bazaar Knowledge Series discussion this week.
India has experienced growing use of books as source material in recent years, driven in part by streaming, which Sidharth Jain, founder of specialist adaptation company Story Ink. called “an inflection point.” But the Indian industry is still relatively new to the process and Jain said that development capital remains “a pain point.”
“As an industry, we are still learning to write a script and still learning to write in the correct format. But we will pick it up fast,” said producer Sunitha Tati. She cited the example of the recent Tamil-language hit “Ponniyin Selvan: I” (“The Son of Ponni”), based on a book. “Director Mani Ratnam knew how to take a most beloved novel to screen in probably the most appropriate way.”

The launch of a segment called ‘Book to Box Office’ within the Film Bazaar project market in Goa this week is an attempt to bridge the gap between filmmakers and authors, publishers and literary agencies.

Netflix is poised to unveil several of its series and two of its movies at the International Film Festival of India. The festival gets underway on Sunday and runs to Nov. 28.
Streaming platforms and film festivals can have uneasy relationships – due to its relationship with French cinemas, Cannes refuses to program Netflix films in premiere slots, and in India streamers were accused of taking advantage of pandemic conditions to license movies that could not access theaters – but increasingly they are finding common ground. Iffi will hold panel discussions after screening some of the Netflix content.
Monday will witness the global premiere of “Khakee: The Bihar Chapter,” a crime thriller series that Netflix describes as “pulpy.” Directed by Neeraj Pandey, it navigates the birth of a super cop and a super villain and their epic clash in Bihar. Panelists will include Shital Bhatia, Bhav Dhulia, Karan Tacker, Avinash Tiwary, Jatin Sarna,...

A sitcom episode stretched out to snapping point, “Bar Fight!” may have made for a mildly amusing 22 minutes. But you may need a few drinks to get through the full hour and a half.
It certainly doesn’t help that there’s not a single person here worth the hang. The entire concept hinges on abrasive talent agent Nina and blandly hipsterish carpenter Allen, who have just executed the most enlightened breakup since Gwyneth and Chris consciously uncoupled. But when they unexpectedly show up at the same dive bar — the one they happily shared for five years — the gloves come off.
It’s decided that they’ll compete for custody, with one triumphantly “keeping” the bar and the other conceding defeat and moping off to another neighborhood. The staff tosses some suggestions in a Santa hat (it’s December), and the competition begins.

An unhappy couple settle their rivalry over on a series of inane challenges in a film that mistakes dodgy acting for ambience
This LA-set breakup comedy at least has a nifty hook: when a longstanding couple part ways, who gets drinking rights at their favourite bar? After five years together, flannel-shirted carpenter Allen (Luka Jones) and go-getting talent agent Nina (Melissa Fumero) are undergoing what Los Angelenos now call a “conscious uncoupling”. Having never fought when they were together, their separation proceeds on the same smooth lines – until they set foot in the Martinez Bar & Lounge on the same evening, both on the town as singletons for the first time. Staff allegiances are divided, so they come up with a decider: Allen and Nina have to undergo a best-of-three bar challenge, with the loser “eighty-sixed” for good.

"Who's ready for this sugar?!" IFC Films has revealed an official trailer for a holiday comedy called Bar Fight, arriving in theaters and on VOD to watch this November. There is only one way to settle the score after a break-up and for Nina (Melissa Fumero) and Allen (Luka Jones) it's a turf war for their favorite local bar. Lines have been drawn and with the help of Nina's best friend Chelsea (Rachel Bloom) it's going to be a winner takes all affair. The drinks are free flowing, the competition is fierce, and games are out-of-this-world crazy. With the bar on the line, this Bar Fight! is going to become a battle for the ages. Yeah this definitely sounds fun! But does it look any good? The cast includes Julian Gant, Vik Sahay, Caroline Harris, Shontae Saldana, David Carzell, Patrick Byas, and Dino Nicandros.
