Carrie Fisher’s half-sister Joely is remembering the Star Wars actress as the one-year anniversary of her death approaches next month.
In her new book Growing Up Fisher: Musings, Memories and Misadventures, excerpted exclusively in the new issue of People, Joely recounts rushing to UCLA Medical Center on the morning of Dec. 23, 2016 to find Carrie in a coma after learning she suffered a heart attack on a plane home to Los Angeles from London.

It’S So Easy And Other Lies, based on Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan’s New York Times best-selling memoir, is in theaters now. The film chronicles Duff’s rise to fame, his near fatal struggles with addiction, and his transformation into the person he is today.
Recently, I had the chance to speak with director Christopher Duddy. Check it out below!
The doc also features exclusive archival footage and interviews from Duff’s closest friends including fellow Gnr band member Slash, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, and Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx.
How do you adapt a book into a film? That must have been quite the undertaking at the start… What was your approach, and did it stay the same throughout?
It is a tricky undertaking but I had an extra template with the story telling besides the book and that approach was through the live performance Duff gives in the movie.

'It's So Easy and Other Lies' movie: Biographical documentary of Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan. 'It's So Easy and Other Lies' movie review: Biographical documentary of Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan fails to develop unique idea Any rock and roll documentary that begins with a quote from Upton Sinclair's The Jungle and ends with a reference to Norman Rockwell is gunning for something uncommonly rich and thoughtful. Here, the high-toned references are awkwardly applied to the story of Duff McKagan, Seattle-born bassist of the loud and legendary Guns N' Roses and subject of the documentary It's So Easy and Other Lies. In the annals of rock music, McKagan's tale is sadly typical, at least for those who survive long enough to star in a film about themselves: young rocker bounces from band to band before joining a soon-to-be world-famous group, enjoys a rapid ascent to the top,...

Duff McKagan knows about extremes. For one thing, the guy's really tall. (6'3") For another, he was part of arguably one of the last bands to have a significant impact on rock and roll: Guns N' Roses. Not only did the band record the best-selling debut album in rock history, Appetite for Destruction, but they presided over one of the last eras in which rock music truly had a dominant grip on mainstream culture. And McKagan, 52, barely lived through it. A new documentary, It's So Easy and Other Lies, based on his autobiography, explores McKagan's crazy life through the lens...

Christopher Duddy’s It’S So Easy And Other Lies feels long at 84 minutes, but that’s not a criticism. All that means is the movie, which is about the life of the Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan has it’s tone in the right place. It’s a film about a lifetime, and the dynamism of the tone allows the film to feel like an intimate epic.
It helps that the time period covered here is absolutely fascinating. The earlier moments of the film take place in Seattle at the beginning of the punk band scene. The energy that is generated by Duff and the other subjects of the documentary is potent, and exhilarating. There’s an earnestness to listening to Duff talk like you’re talking to an old friend as he pulls artifacts of days past out of a box. . The description...

Music fans are often enthralled with the idea of the high-powered lifestyle that their favorite musicians seemingly live, and fail to realize that their public persona is usually an act that’s constructed to help promote their latest albums. But musicians usually become more willing to honesty share the details of their personal struggles once they overcome the biggest conflicts in their lives. That’s certainly the case in co-writer-director-producer Christopher Duddy’s new autobiographical music documentary, ‘It’s So Easy and Other Lies.’ The film powerfully chronicles the battles that Guns N’ Roses founding member and bass player, Duff McKagan, has contended with throughout his life. Old Hollywood met rock 'n' roll when Cameron Duddy married fashion photographer Harper Smith in Wyoming on Aug. 10. The groom, 27, and his bride, 31, opted for a cowboy chic theme for the nuptials, which were held at the sprawling Jackson Hole ranch owned by Duddy's step-grandmother, actress Connie Stevens. Duddy, who recently won an MTV Video Music Award for directing Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven," is the son of cinematographer Christopher Duddy and Renee Axotis. His father wed Stevens' daughter, actress Joely Fisher, in 1996. "What a magical time. Jackson Hole is a place that we have had a strong spiritual connection to,...

Patrick Creadon and Christine O'Malley, the filmmakers behind the hit documentary Wordplay, are leaving the world of crossword puzzles to examine the expansive topic of the U.S. federal debt.
The husband-and-wife writing-directing-producing team will partner with indie production company Open Sky Entertainment to create a new feature-length documentary exploring the growing federal debt and its implications for the country's future.
"This film presents challenges similar to the ones we met when we made 'Wordplay, ' " said O'Malley, whose 2006 Sundance debut went on to earn $3.1 million at the domestic boxoffice. "Our hope is that we can again take a potentially dry story and make it cinematic, revealing and entertaining."
The film will be based loosely on the writings of Bill Bonner, Addison Wiggin and Kate Incontrera, editors of the financial newsletter "The Daily Reckoning." Creadon will write and direct the new documentary, and O'Malley will co-write and produce. Open Sky Entertainment co-founders Glenn Garland and Christopher Duddy will produce.
