Michel Franco’s After Lucia (see pic above) and Antonio Campos’ Simon Killer will be making the Los Angeles premieres accompanied by the best title to come out of the Main Comp at this year’s Cannes edition in Sergei Loznitsa’s In the Fog. This trio will be joined by a trio of gems that recently premiered at Tiff in: Maja Miloš’ Clip, Gabriela Pichler’s Eat Sleep Die and Tobias Lindholm’s A Hijacking. Director: John Madden Writers: Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman, Peter Straughan, Assaf Bernstein (Ha-Hov), Ido Rosenblum (Ha-Hov) Starring: Helen Mirren, Jessica Chastain, Tom Wilkinson, Marton Csokas, Ciarán Hinds, Sam Worthington, Romi Aboulafia, Jesper Christensen Based on Assaf Bernstein's 2007 Israeli film Ha-Hov, John Madden's English-language remake -- The Debt -- intelligently comments on the creation of political heroes and myths, all the while discussing the existential turmoil caused by having to live with a lie. But, opting for Oscar fodder over substance, The Debt attempts to traverse -- superficially, at best -- such emotionally heavy subjects as responsibility, guilt, sacrifice, revenge and regret. David, Stefan and Rachel's personal histories are so entrenched in the history of Israel that they will never be able to escape their past for as long as they live. Israel recognizes them as political heroes and there is no turning their backs on that. The truth...

Title: The Debt Director: John Madden Starring: Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain, Marton Csokas, Tom Wilkinson, Jesper Christensen, Ciaran Hinds, Romi Aboulafia The Debt is one of those movies where one simply needs to read the synopsis when deciding whether or not to give this a look. It’s a balanced spy-thriller where there is just as much rhetoric as there is old-school action sequences – due to the fact that this 114 minute flick takes place in Germany in 1965. Knowing that, the script is penned by the fantastical Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class), who has found a way to blend substantial moments with over-the-top fun in his...

Totally off-kilter, sexy and stylish in a distinctly grungy, almost '90s sort of way, Joe + Belle is the story of two young women who meet and fall in love under bizarre, darkly hilarious circumstances. A creative tour-de-force for star/director/writer Veronica Kedar, it manages to say something deep about love and violence while still offering all the gallows humor you could hope for.
Warning: Some spoilers
We meet Joe (Kedar), a sexy, devil-may-care drug dealer, as she arrives home to Tel Aviv after a productive drug run in Bangkok. Her voiceover is all pouty post-modern depression, and her recent ex-boyfriend, Matan (Yotam Ishay), won’t stop calling her. She meets up with Abigail (Romi Aboulafia), a friend and fellow dealer, and goes home to her apartment, ready to relax in the shower.

Jessica Chastain, Sam Worthington and Marton Csokas in The Debt
Photo: Miramax Films The Debt traces fictional events taking place in 1965 as three young Mossad agents are charged with the duty of bringing Vogel (Jesper Christensen), a Nazi war criminal referred to as the "Surgeon of Birkenau", to justice. A remake of Assaf Bernstein's 2007 film of the same name, director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) tells the story of Rachel (Jessica Chastain/Helen Mirren), David (Sam Worthington/Ciaran Hinds) and Josef (Marton Csokas/Tom Wilkinson), covering the details of their mission 30 years ago and how it has changed their lives ever since.
Bouncing back and forth in time, The Debt is a satisfying thriller that is almost so subtle it feels like it's based on a true story. The balance between story and attempts to thrill is this film's strongest asset. Situations aren't exaggerated in order to make for increased tension,...

The film is based on the 2007 Israeli film “Ha-Hov.” Miramax plans to release the movie December 29, 2010. Also Kick-Ass! director Matthew Vaughan produced the film and wrote the screenplay.
This movie looks awesome just the thriller I have been waiting for this year. I like the story that blends the past and future together and the style of the film looks great as well.
Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington star in The Debt, the powerful story of Rachel Singer, a former Mossad agent who endeavored to capture and bring to trial a notorious Nazi war criminal—the Surgeon of Birkenau—in a secret Israeli mission that ended with his death on the streets of East Berlin. Now, 30 years later, a man claiming to be the doctor has surfaced,...

Here’s your first look at the trailer for John Madden’s “The Debt”, starring Sam Worthington as one of three Mossad agents sent to capture some Nazi baddie. It all goes predictably awry, and years later, older versions of the same Mossad agents (one of whom is Helen Mirren, currently making something of a second career killing people in movies in her twilight years) must atone for their mistake. Hopefully that mistake doesn’t involve one too many jelly donuts on stake-outs, cause you know, straight to the thighs, baby. Via Yahoo. Ciaran Hinds, Tom Wilkinson and Jessica Chastain are in John Madden’s Debt. Well, The Debt, to be precise, given that the trio have signed on to join Madden’s thriller, which stars Helen Mirren as an ex-Mossad agent who is forced to hunt down a Nazi target thirty years after he was supposedly killed.Chastain, a relative newcomer who recently completed a role in Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life, will play the younger version of Mirren’s character, Rachel Singer, who is one of three Mossad agents who hunt down the Nazi in the 1960s.Hinds and Wilkinson, those excellent character actors, will play Mossad agents, joining a fine cast that already includes so-hot-right-now Sam Worthington, Marton Csokas, Jesper Christensen (Mr. White in the new Bond films), and Romi Aboulafia. The film – written by Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman and Peter Straughan; and produced by Vaughn, Kris Thykier and...
