He began his artistic career at the theater where he made his stage debut in 1881.
Although already 50 years old he had a positive attitude to the new arising film business in contrast to many other stage actors. He saw the possibility to express stories in a new way.
He was born as the son of the opera singer Ludwig Albes.

As a director he realised a film serial with the figur Karlchen like "Karlchen bei der Feuerwehr" (1919), "Karlchen, das Dienstmädchen" (1199) and "Karlchen, der glückliche Erbe" (1919).
In 1891 he was able to realise his first play as a director at the theater in Göttingen and he carried this activity on in the following years too.
