Romantics are gushing through the ears and the trigger is Dharmendra crooning – अभी न जाओ छोड़कर – to Shabana Azmi which culminates in an impromptu kiss in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’. The original song from Dev Anand’s Hum Dono still is a swan song for the lovers especially when the lady in question is planning to leave, while the boy has the innate desire that she stays, and this yearn is not relegated to teenagers. It continues to reverberate through the ages ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ has amplified it.
I am reminded of a party that we were attending in Ranchi. It was around midnight and as the guests started walking away, I snatched the mike and started singing this evergreen song and those who had taken their cars out of the parking lots dumped it, came back and we kept on singing...

It's apocalypse time at the Indian box office, what with John Abraham's Rocky Handsome ready to take on Zack Synder's summer Hollywood extravaganza Batman Vs Superman Dawn Of Justice which features Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman.
Director Nishikant Kamat feels the action scenes in Rocky Handsome take the action genre in Bollywood to the next level. "We had to make sure the action scenes surpassed whatever John had done in his earlier films, or for that matter whatever was attempted in the action genre before this."
Kamat feels the stunts in Rocky Handsome are unique. "They are stylized yet raw and real. If you ask me for a reference it would have to be Transporters."
Kamat conducted a 3-week action workshop with John. "He has a very pumped-up gym-designed body. We needed John to be more agile. We prepared John for the role in Bangkok.

It’s the nature of the feast… and I do mean, feast. Sumptuously spread out into two hours of drama about love, courtship, separation, conflict, deception and damnation during the year 1877 (why 1877, you may well ask), 20 years after India patriots first woke up to the need for freedom.
Jaanisaar is the kind of visual spectacle that could transport you into another century, provided you are only looking at the lights, costumes and adaas. There is an old world elegance to how Imran Abbas’ eyes light up whenever he encounters the beautiful poetic Pernia Qureshi… Or, so it must have seemed to the very romantic and wise Muzaffar Ali, who in all romantic wisdom, also agreed to cast himself in a pivotal role. Stylist Pernia Qureshi, who received much recognition for designing Sonam Kapoor’s look in Aisha, will be seen in Muzaffar Ali’s upcoming period drama Jaanisar, which bears a striking resemblance to his previous movie Umrao Jaan. She is to play a courtesan in the 1870’s pre-Independence drama.
Pernia says that her film will have a lot in common with the 1981 Rekha-Farooque Shaikh starrer, Umrao Jaan, but the intention is not to make a remake or a sequel. “It’s a new film set in a similar milieu,” she adds, “The film is a historic drama revolving around our freedom struggle.” She further elaborates saying that while Rekha’s character in Umrao Jaan Amiran had a quiet and mysterious demeanor, her enchanting character Noor is outspoken and progressive which is quite the opposite of the classic role.

Whenever there will be even a mere utterance of 'Classic Actors Par Excellence', there will always be a golden mention of the legendary great actor Farooq Sheikh. The sad news is that he is no more amongst us, as he passed away in Dubai due to a heart attack. Known for his ever-smiling face and ever-helpful nature, the news of his death has indeed come as a blow on the face to Bollywood. Besides working in regular Bollywood potboilers, he also has worked with the iconic names like Satyajit Ray, Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and others. Farooq was always known for his take on acting as he used to simplify the most complicated scenes. Not just that, he was an equally well known name in the theatre circle as well. Plays like 'Tumhari Amrita' etc... stand testimonial to this fact. He also won the 2010's 'National Film Award' for 'Best Supporting Actor' for Lahore.

New Delhi, Feb 28: His period drama "Umrao Jaan" still fascinates movie aficionados, and Muzaffar Ali is busy scripting two more historicals. He feels it's time for Bollywood to "become global" and for that Indian filmmakers should come out of their "middle-class flavour" and scan the "issues from the grassroots level".
