The aliens from Sony's "District 9" scored big during The Hollywood Reporter's 39th annual Key Art Awards.
Honoring the best in movie marketing, Friday's event at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles saw "District 9" take home 11 awards, including the best-in-show prize for its integrating marketing campaigning as well as three other best-in-show laurels for its outdoor advertising (built around its "Bus Stop for Humans Bus Shelter"), TV spots and digital campaign.
The awards ceremony culminated with Sylvester Stallone receiving the Visionary Award, given annually to a filmmaker who inspires movie marketers.
"At the end of the day, there is no question that Sylvester Stallone delivers great product," THR publisher Lori Burgess said before calling Stallone to the candlelit stage at what once was the altar of the former St. Vibiana Roman Catholic cathedral, which has been converted to a party space. "He's put his stamp on film like very few people of his generation.

Note to vendors: watch out because Larry Baldauf used to be one of you and a Navy fighter pilot as well. But the new Evp of Marketing effective early March was most recently a founding partner of Hollywood-based advertising agency Acme Trailer Company. “Fox Searchlight is the only studio that could possibly have tempted me to leave a partnership and owner position in my own company," said Baldauf who worked on many Searchlight films as a vendor himself. He succeeds Stephanie Allen. He'll jointly manage with Fox Searchlight's other Evp of Marketing Michelle Hooper.

In 1989, Spike Lee picked up a trashcan and hurled it into the front window of Sal's Pizzeria, stirring chaos in Bed-Stuy and sending movie audiences into a tizzy about race relations in America. That same year, Oliver Stone and Brian De Palma were reopening heated debates about Vietnam ("Born on the Fourth of July," "Casualties of War"), while Steven Soderbergh and Peter Greenaway were making us squirm by challenging conventional moral codes ("sex, lies and videotape," "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover"). Jump ahead 20 years: today's watercooler cinema holds nary an ounce of subversive content. On the contrary, the most talked-about upscale American films of the year uphold such conservative myths as the sanctity of family and community.
Much has already been written about the reactionary elements of Lee Daniels' "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire," which, despite its confrontational scenes of rape,...
