Born in Havana, raised in Mexico City, and now an American living in
Los Angeles, CA., Emilia Arau belongs to one of the most prolific and
well-known families in the Mexican entertainment industry.
She started a career very young working in American films shot in Mexico. In the early 90s, she was the Line Producer of the world hit Como Agua para Chocolate ('Like Water for Chocolate') working with her father, Alfonso Arau, and continued producing various Mexican films, such as Bandidos ('Bandits') and Ambar ('Amber'), directed by multi-awarded Mexican Director/Producer, Luis Estrada('Herod's Law'), and El Segundo Aire ('A Second Chance') and Ciudades Oscuras ('Dark Cities') with successful Mexican Director/Producer, Fernando Sariñana.
She also produced cultural television series the Mexican giant network, Televisa, and was named Vice-President of Production for the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) in the mid-'90s.
In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles to produce television commercials for the Hispanic market in the USA with La Banda Films, and later partnered up with a Mexican television commercial production company, Metro Producciones, to offer their Production Services in Mexico.
Other work in the US includes the award-winning short film 'Use as Directed' with writer/director Katherine Griffin, and producing partner Jon Bachmann; recording of Spanish Voice Over spots for the US Hispanic Market (DPN); and Production Consulting to various feature films, including 'Under The Same Moon (La misma luna)', 'Butterflies and Lightning', and 'Between Us'.
Emilia also created and published the first story of her original Spanish Read-Along Bilingual read-along book, 'The Rain Comes to Play,' to help children become bilingual, and is continuously promoting it within US school districts and around the world.
From 2011 to 2014, Emilia Arau returned to La Banda Films as the Executive Producer of the company to be in charge of overseeing all live-action production for TV commercials for the US markets working with owner/director/producer, Roberto Sneider.
In 2014, she realized that her experience of 30+ years in negotiating deals and managing time, money, and meticulous paperwork, as well as giving star treatment to her clients while finding creative solutions to accomplish memorable results, was surprisingly similar in both the entertainment industry and in real estate. Emilia Arau is now a licensed Realtor® at Compass, the #1 independent brokerage in the US and is now serving the entertainment community and producing happy homes from the heart of Sunset Strip in West Hollywood and a second office in Baldwin Hills near Silicon Beach.
