With the success of video game adaptations like the iconic The Last of Us and the recently released Prime Video original series Fallout, the upcoming Borderlands film is being expected to continue this trend of excellent adaptation for the fandom of video game culture.
And it seems like Ariana Greenblatt, one of the lead stars in the film, prepared for her role of Tiny Tina with inspiration from none other than Margot Robbie.

Since Robbie’s role as the iconic Harley Quinn from the now-dismantled Dceu sits closely in line with how Tiny Tina is in the film, Greenblatt had a pretty good muse to help herself take performance cues from to fine-tune her act as the character.

"Borderlands" is one of the most popular video game franchises of the 2000s. Now, it's becoming a movie, with Lionsgate hoping to turn it into a franchise for the big screen. Directed by Eli Roth, this video game adaptation has been in the works for a long, long time, but it's finally hitting theaters this summer. That being the case, the studio brought some new footage from the film to this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and I was on hand to see what Roth cooked up.
One thing the movie has going for it is a stellar A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett ("Thor: Ragnarok") as Lilith. The ensemble also includes Jack Black ("The Super Mario Bros. Movie"), Kevin Hart ("Lift"), Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Ariana Greenblatt ("Barbie"), Florian Munteanu ("Creed II"), and Edgar Ramirez ("Yes Day"). It also, at one point, had "The Last of Us" and "Chernobyl") writer Craig Mazin attached,...

Fill the cannons with stuffed animals and watch the fluff fly as Eli Roth’s Borderlands takes the Lionsgate stage at CinemaCon! The annual entertainment event is in full swing after yesterday’s Warner Bros. panel and reveal of Todd Phillips’s Joker: Folie à Deux trailer. With film and television fans fired up about upcoming releases, Lionsgate is ready to take them to a wasteland where kooky characters try to kill each other, and a fabled vault of riches awaits.
The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin wrote the initial screenplay for Borderlands but removed his name from the project after the script was rewritten by Roth, Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Joe Crombie, Chris Bremner, and Sam Levinson. Last week, the trailer for director Eli Roth’s long-awaited video game adaptation Borderlands, which is set to reach theatres on August 9th, made its way online – and while talking to Entertainment Weekly about the trailer, Roth revealed that he’s currently writing a horror script with 16-year-old Borderlands cast member Ariana Greenblatt, who plays Tiny Tina in the upcoming movie!
Roth told Entertainment Weekly that Greenblatt “loves horror, and we have a great idea, so we’re writing a movie together. That is an exclusive, nobody knows that. I don’t want to say anything about it yet, but she’s so smart I’m like, ‘Let’s write a movie together, and we’ll produce it together, and I’ll direct it, and you’ll star in it.’” Of course, Roth didn’t give away any details about the story he and Greenblatt are collaborating on. Cate Blanchett’s Lilith travels to a planet she hates to find a massive treasure hidden in a vault in the first trailer for Lionsgate’s Borderlands. Lilith can’t do the treasure hunt alone and is forced to team up with an odd assortment of people on a planet that has an actual gully made of piss.
The trailer gives off Guardians of the Galaxy vibes, and the film obviously doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Eli Roth and Joe Crombie wrote the screenplay, based on the popular Borderlands video game franchise, with Roth directing. If it feels like we've been waiting ages to actually see something from Borderlands – adapting the wildly popular video game series, and that's because it's been trundling through development for years – and, while Eli Roth directed the main shoot, Deadpool's Tim Miller handled some more recent re-shoots. And with the first trailer now online, we can see the results of all that work, with Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black and Ariana Greenblatt front and centre. Take a look:
Borderlands follows Blanchett Lilith, a notorious outlaw and fortune-seeker who heads back to her home planet of Pandora (a place she was only too happy to leave in the first place) on a mission to track down the missing daughter of the wealthy and evil Atlas (Edgar Ramirez).
It doesn't hurt that the planet also boasts a reportedly huge treasure lurking with in vault, so Lilith gathers...

Eli Roth swaps serial killers for space goo in the first Borderlands trailer. Take a look here.
First trailer for the highly-anticipated Borderlands adaptation has just landed. Eli Roth is adapting the long-running game series into what Lionsgate hopes will start a franchise.
Take a look at the first bonkers trailer for Borderlands below.
Borderlands features one of the most eccentric casts for a videogame adaptation we’ve seen in a while. Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart and the voice of Jack Black? In this economy?!
Also joining the cast are Edgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon. Roth is also in charge of the script, together with Joe Crombie.
It doesn’t immediately strike as a classically Eli Rothian film. Roth has made his name with extreme horror and gorefests, such as Hostel and last year’s Thanksgiving. Visually, it’s a feast of colours as...

Cate Blanchett is back in a wig and a franchise, following her iconic “Thor: Ragnarok” campiness. The Oscar winner and “Tár” lead actress transforms into vigilante Lilith for Eli Roth’s star-studded “Borderlands” video-game adaptation.
Blanchett’s character is an infamous outlaw who returns to her home planet of Pandora on a mission to track down the missing daughter of the universe’s top leader, Atlas (Edgar Ramírez). Lilith enlists former elite mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), pre-teen demolitionist Tiny Tina (“Barbie” breakout Ariana Greenblatt), her bodyguard Krieg (Florian Munteanu), mad scientist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), and robot Claptrap (Jack Black) to help.
“These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power,” the synopsis reads. “The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.

An adaptation of the popular video game, Eli Roth’s Borderlands is finally set for big screen release this summer, and the official trailer has arrived as promised this morning.
Lionsgate will be releasing Borderlands on August 9, 2024.
Watch the Borderlands movie trailer below!
It’s hard to shake the off-brand James Gunn feeling that is probably inherent to this type of movie at this point, but Roth’s Borderlands does look quite fun. Gunn is a master of threading story and deep character work into all the action, and this will likely sink or swim based on how well it does the same. For now, it looks and feels like Borderlands. And that’s a good start.
The ensemble cast for the video game movie includes Jack Black as Claptrap, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland,...

At long last, the first trailer for the "Borderlands" movie has arrived. Directed by Eli Roth, this is the long-awaited adaptation of the very popular series of video games from Gearbox and 2K. Lionsgate has been getting the film ready behind the scenes for several years, and with the release date set for this summer, the studio has finally decided to show us what they've cooked up. Check it out for yourself above.
There is much to discuss here. For anyone who has played the games, Roth and the filmmakers certainly nailed a lot of the look. Claptrap (the robot character voiced by Jack Black) looks like himself. The world looks like the world of the games. It feels right in that sense. It also feels, cinematically, like a mix between Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" films and "Mad Max." Whether or not it's anywhere near as good as those...

What is the point of a video game expansion? Too often, the point is to make some extra money without having to make an entirely new game. That’s not necessarily a sin, but the worst video game Dlc expansions too often showcase the worst of gaming. Yet, the best video game Dlc expansions show all the things that concept should be.
The best Dlc expansions do more than give us an excuse to dive back into the games we already own. They revive, reinvigorate, and, in some cases, even redeem their base experiences. We all benefit from learning from our best and worst moments. Well, that’s also what the greatest expansions do. They benefit from the knowledge of seeing what came before and realizing how much more there still is to do.
Before we talk about the greatest video game Dlc expansions, though, please note that this list...

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
Ahsoka‘s midseason episode, “Shadow Warrior,” was billed as such a big event by Disney that it even played in select theaters on premiere night. And it’s for good reason: the fifth episode of the live-action series doesn’t only see the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker but also sends Ahsoka traveling through time and space to her years as a young padawan during The Clone Wars. That means we not only get to see two battles from the animated series but also a younger Ahsoka in the flesh as we’ve never seen her in live action.
Of course, star Rosario Dawson couldn’t play young Ahsoka herself on the show, lest Disney take us further into the uncanny valley of its questionable CG de-aging tech. Instead, Clone Wars era Ahsoka is played by 16-year-old Ariana Greenblatt, who you...

This article contains spoilers for "Ahsoka" episode 5, "Dark Warrior."
Given the pretty massive cliffhanger fans were left with at the end of "Ahsoka" episode 4, "Fallen Jedi," expectations were sky-high headed into episode 5. But Dave Filoni isn't one to disappoint. The episode, titled "Shadow Warrior," in some ways represented a culmination of the filmmaker's many years working in "Star Wars" up to this point. It even allowed him to bring a young Ahsoka Tano to life in live-action. For those who felt like the actor underneath that young Ahsoka makeup felt familiar, there's a very good reason for that.
Fans of "The Clone Wars" had a lot to soak in with the episode serving as a real blast from the past, as we got to see Anakin Skywalker and a younger Ahsoka Tano in the heart of battle long before he became Darth Vader and she left the Jedi Order. It was just Anakin and Snips.

Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor has shared his first solo album in over 30 years, Man’s a Wolf to Man. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.
Taylor began writing Man’s a Wolf to Man in 2016 or 2017 — “the beginning of the chaos,” as he put it in a statement. The record was ultimately delayed by Covid-19, so in addition to addressing political unrest and a global pandemic, it was also influenced by the artist’s prostate cancer, which he learned during that time was terminal.
“Man’s a Wolf to Man is pretty apt now,” Taylor said. “Having lived there, had kids there, had an amazing career there, I know America very well. And when you watch the breakdown, and the extremes of it, how quickly people became vicious enemies.”
The artist continued, “[It’s] about how man is his own worst enemy and will behave like a pack of...

Andy Taylor thought that Nov. 5, 2022 was going to be one of the greatest nights of his life. After years of waiting, Duran Duran were finally entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The guitarist had co-founded the band back in 1980 and co-wrote many of their biggest songs, including “Rio” and “Hungry Like the Wolf,” but he hadn’t shared a stage with them since 2006, when old tensions resurfaced during the creation of their aborted album Reportage and they parted ways.

Filming wrapped on director Eli Roth‘s adaptation of the Borderlands video game series from Gearbox and 2K in June of last year. Seven months later, Deadpool director Tim Miller had to step in to handle the project’s two weeks of reshoots because Roth had the chance to finally – after seventeen years – make a feature based on the Thanksgiving faux trailer he put together for the Quentin Tarantino / Robert Rodriguez collaboration Grindhouse. Roth’s Thanksgiving slasher is scheduled to reach theatres on November 17, 2023, the Friday before the Thanksgiving holiday. Now Deadline has broken the news that Borderlands will reach theatres about eight months later, on August 2, 2024. So we still have a year to wait before we’ll be able to watch this one.
We had heard that The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin wrote the screenplay for Borderlands, but according to Deadline the final script was actually written by Roth and Joe Crombie.

Gobble, gobble. THR has reported that Jalen Thomas Brooks (Walker) and Nell Verlaque (Big Shot) have signed on to star in Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving originated as a faux trailer in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse, but sixteen years later, Eli Roth is ready to give the story the feature-film treatment. Although Jalen Thomas Brooks and Nell Verlaque are being billed as the stars of Thanksgiving, sources tell THR that the film will have quite a large cast, many of whom will likely end up on the Thanksgiving table. Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) is in final talks to join the cast as the sheriff, with Addison Rae (He’s All That) also joining up in a supporting role.

While the number of truly great video game adaptations is tragically small, the fact of the matter is that there’s still a bit of a gold rush for familiar properties. As such, it seems that every studio and streaming service in the world is looking to adapt one video game or another.
Seriously, the number of video game adaptations currently in some stage of development is insane. You may occasionally hear about some video game adaptation popping up here and there, but it’s hard to fully grasp the extent of this movement until you see every adaptation listed in one place. As such, that’s what we’re here to do.
Before we dive into the list, though, please note that there is a truly ridiculous number of video game adaptations possibly in development at this time. That being the case, we will not only be updating this article as needed,...

Until there is diverse representation on stage and screen, not all Australians will feel acknowledged as a part of the society they live in, according Ursula Yovich.
The Burarra and Serbian actress, playwright, singer and songwriter delivered the inaugural Nida Naidoc Week Lecture yesterday, using her speech to call for cultural change that will lead to greater representation in the arts.
Yovich recounted that when she was young, she loved singing and religiously woke up at 6am each Saturday morning to watch ABC’s Rage.
And yet it wasn’t until she saw Whitney Houston for the first time that she ever imagined that a singing career was viable.
“I loved Tina Arena, John Farnham, Something for Kate, Crowded House, Wendy Matthews, Inxs, Australian Crawl, Midnight Oil and Icehouse. But I never felt that I could actually become a singer, because that career path was not for people like me.

The wildfires that have ravaged large parts of Australia have sparked an outpouring of generosity from celebrities and the general public. The entertainment industry has so far escaped largely unburned.
Since September, huge wildfires have razed more than 11.2 million hectares (27.7 million acres), nearly half the area of the U.K., at least 20 people have died, and over 1,500 homes have been destroyed.
The fires, which arrived earlier than in most years, have also destroyed or severely damaged the habitats of several native animals. As many as a billion animals, including livestock and domestic pets, are estimated to have either died or be at risk from a lack of food and shelter, the Reuters news agency reports.
Film and TV productions have, to date, mostly been able to works around the problems. “We are not aware of any impacts currently, however we are reaching out to all our funded production companies to check on them all,...

‘Promised.’
Most of the new releases in Australian cinemas last weekend had bombed or under-performed in the Us weeks or months ago, so their fates were probably sealed.
Splatter comedy Ready or Not, Ron Howard’s homage to the late tenor Luciano Pavarotti, English musical dramedy Blinded by the Light and indie Us drama After the Wedding were among the Halloween strugglers.
The top-grossing title at the Lavazza Italian Film Festival, writer-director Nick Conidi’s Promised opened on 45 screens via Umbrella Entertainment. The weekend take for the 1950s-set drama starring Tina Arena, Paul Mercurio, Antoniette Iesue, Daniel Berini and Mirko Grillini was a modest $57,000 but the total including festival screenings is a decent $198,000.
The top 20 titles generated $11.3 million, down 21 per cent on the prior frame according to Numero, getting some uplift from Indian imports Bigil and, to a lesser extent, Housefull 4.
Facing minimal competition, Todd Phillips’ Joker led the field for the fourth consecutive weekend,...

Once a blockbuster staple, the power ballad was the ultimate movie accompaniment. We look back at some of the classics...
For a glorious period from the mid-80s throughout the 90s, the biggest summer blockbusters were only worth their salt if they had an equally gargantuan song at the head their soundtrack. Often the success of one was inexorably linked to the other, with the likes of Four Weddings And A Funeral's feats matched and even exceeded by Wet Wet Wet's accompanying Love Is All Around.
The greatest and most successful songs belong to the power ballad genre, and are as emotionally charged and forceful as the gods of epic balladry such as Journey, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi and Meat Loaf. As the 90s became the 00s and the charts became increasingly irrelevant, the movie ballad became almost defunct, with even the song-dominant film soundtrack being...

Jade McGuire is through to boot camp on The X Factor with a rendition of Tina Arena's 'Chains'.
The 30-year-old mother was a member of the group Pop, who toured with Girls Aloud a decade ago before they split.
After explaining her back story, the nervous McGuire sang 'Chains' with encouragement from judge Simon Cowell.
Once finished, Cowell said it was "a really, really great emotional performance", McGuire saying that she had waited 10 years for this moment.
Rita Ora argued that she represented "Independent women taking control of their destiny", adding: "Sometimes we don't need men - all we need is a bit of love and a bit of respect."
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini said that she "just stood there and sang [her] heart out".
After getting four yeses, her children came out on stage to hug her.
The X Factor is showing on ITV now.
