As most of North America and the world watched, Hurricane Sandy put a huge dent into the day-to-day life for millions along the Eastern seaboard. While West Virginia was getting hammered with a severe snowstorm, New York City and the surrounding areas were nailed with high winds, heavy rains and high waves which caused devastating flooding and destruction. And some of the musicians in the area were directly affected by what transpired.
According to TMZ, New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg posted a 43-second video of his apartment was completely flooded. In the video Wahlberg and a friend can be seen sloshing through his apartment picking up items which are floating in the kitchen, including cereal bowls.
"So much for bacon. My entire building is under a foot of water," Wahlberg tweeted as the storm continued overnight. "Awesome neighbors all banding together to help each other! Stay safe!

Peter Buck’s solo album has remained quite a mystery since its announcement in March. The R.E.M. guitarist was rumored to sing on the album—but not in concert—and to be pressing the album to vinyl exclusively, offering no digital download options. But these rumors have begun to break as Buck performed one of his new songs, titled “10,000 BC,” in his singing debut May 26, backed by none other than Joseph Arthur....

Pearl Jam celebrated their 20th anniversary in style over the weekend with their two-day fest, "PJ20." Held at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin, on Saturday and Sunday, Eddie Vedder and his musical brethren triumphantly ended the holiday weekend with a massive three-hour set, according to Billboard.
The show reportedly featured all of the classics – “Alive,” “Jeremy,” “Even Flow,” “Daughter” – but the bevy of special guests is what truly showed Pearl Jam’s influence and musical legacy. Scratching each other’s backs, the fest became a hodge-podge of onstage collabs. Vedder showed his appreciation for the opening acts: adding vocals and percussion to the set by Liam Finn, duetting with John Doe for his tune “Golden State,” mellowing out on Glen Hansard’s “Falling Slowly” (a song from Hansard’s Irish indie flick "Once") and rocking out with the Strokes on “Juicebox.”

Midway through his summer tour, Joseph Arthur is working hard promoting his album The Graduation Ceremony which debuted in early May. The Akron born singer was plucked from obscurity by the hand of fate (or Peter Gabriel, depending on which story you hear) and in 1997, at the age of 25, Arthur had his first album and a spot on a worldwide tour. Not too shabby, but it was the albums that followed that really let him hone his style and really represents the artist people know now. Today we're taking a look at his video for "Love Never Asks You to Lie" one of the singles off of Ceremony. The song embodies much of the sound that represents Joseph Arthur's music. The mellow, and sometimes even melancholy mood rolls out under the slow, smoky vocals that are something of his trademark as two little kids play to the song's message...

It’s hard to imagine what life would be like if your dad was the singer for one of the most successful punk band of all time, but that’s just a day in the life of Joey Armstrong, son of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. And somewhat fittingly, the 16-year-old drummer is now ready to follow in his father’s footsteps by forming a punk rock outfit with three of his chums.
Dubbed Emily’s Army — a name derived from two bandmates’ 15-year-old cousin Emily, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis — the group's rather sneeringly-titled debut album, Don’t Be a Dick, was produced by none other than Papa Armstrong himself and will be released through his own Adeline Records come June 14th.

We haven’t heard anything about it, but it turns out that Lady Gaga has a new album out this week. Just kidding. The longest set up in the history of man starts to come to a close May 23 as Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” is released. It comes out worldwide on Monday (U.S. releases usually come out on Tuesdays), and so a few other albums take advantage of the tailwind and are coming out the same day, such as Brad Paisley’s “This Is Country Music” and the latest collection from “Glee.” Joseph Arthur, “The Graduation Ceremony” (Lonely Astronaut): Singer/songwriter/poet/painter, who...

We told you yesterday about how the 10th anniversary edition of the Austin City Limits Festival was trying to shake things up by slowly revealing its lineup through a low-tech "Lineup Lottery" scratch-card game that had coughed up the names of a few participants: Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Cee Lo and Chromeo.
Then the June issue of Spin magazine revealed that Kanye West and Stevie Wonder would also be joining the September 16-18 party in Austin's Zilker Park.
But on Tuesday (May 17), the festival finally tipped its entire hand, and in addition to newly announced fave Kanye, the festival will also be serving up headline sets from Coldplay, Fleet Foxes, Nas & Damian "Jr Gong" Marley, and Alison Krauss and Union Station.
Among the 130 bands on the bill are Bright Eyes,...

Conan O'Brien's "Live CoCo Cam" just wrapped up its 24-hour broadcast day, and it did it in news-worthy fashion. After a morning full of interns playing Twister and a visit from a mariachi band, the live stream concluded with a dance party (featuring a battle between a taco and a bear that would have fit right in as a part of that new Chris Brown video) and a wacky puppet show that concluded with the announcement of the guest lineups for the first week of "Conan" episodes, which kick off on Monday, November 8.
The first episode will feature Seth Rogen, a musical performance from Jack White and the winner of the "First Guest Poll" hosted at O'Brien's official Web site. The options there include the obvious (Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Jack Nicholson), the sublime (the entire case of the live action "Fat Albert" movie) and the ridiculous (Pope Benedict XVI,...

Actress Laura Dern and singer Ben Harper are reportedly ending their five-year union. The folk-rock singer served the "Jurassic Park" actress divorce papers on Friday afternoon, according to TMZ.
The Grammy-winning artist has cited irreconcilable differences, and the website reports that although Harper and Dern have been living together recently, the singer claims the pair separated in January. Harper is looking to split custody of their two children. Harper and Dern got hitched in a Los Angeles mansion in 2005 surrounded by 150 guests.
Although Harper will be heading back into the singles scene, the musician told MTV News in 2006 that he would love for future couples to use his music as the soundtrack to their nuptials.

This week is a tale of stellar debuts and hit-and-miss follow-ups. Fistful of Mercy -- Ben Harper, Dhani Harrison, and Joseph Arthur's supergroup offering -- reinvents vocal harmony groups and Bruno Mars kicks pop music in the ass. Meanwhile, KT Tunstall takes a chance with some space-age folk, David Archuleta plays it way too safe with some forgettable pop, and Biggie's widow, Faith Evans, can't seem to move the needle past 1997. Watch: Check out this week's must-play pick: Fistful of Mercy. Play: Fistful of Mercy, "As I Call You Down" Although Dhani Harrison has drawn some Traveling Wilburys analogies, Fistful of Mercy couldn't be further from daddy George's late '80s side project -- aside from the same mutual admiration. Harrison, Ben Harper, and Joseph Arthur are much more interested in exploring internal, ethereal matters. They are the second coming of Crosby, Stills...

Details are scant, but it appears Ben Harper, Joseph Arthur and Dhani Harrison (of the George variety) have combined to form a new singer-songwriter supergroup Fistful of Mercy. So far, they've gotten around to posting a Twitter account (under the "Men Who Stare At Goats" moniker Lyn Cassady, no less), a MySpace with dummy text for a bio and a Facebook account that reveals they're posted in Venice, Calif. On top of that, they've revealed their first known song, a self-titled, sadly sweeping rocker. Vocally, there's little trading of vocals on "Fistful of Mercy," though there's a lot going on in...
